I left this store feeling disappointed by the way customers were treated. As I waited for assistance, I was repeatedly ignored while the manager Dominick appeared quick to help shoppers who looked wealthier and were white. Store owner Jordan also was of no help when asked if he would price an item on the floor. His response was when he got around to it. Whether intentional or not, the difference in treatment was impossible to ignore. I truly hope business downtown doesn't follow suit. I used to enjoy this thrift store when it was reasonably pricing donated items. Every customer deserves to be acknowledged and treated with the same courtesy and respect, regardless of their income, appearance, or background. A thrift store should be a welcoming place for everyone, especially since people shop there for many different reasons. As an avid thrifter, I've been coming to this place for years. They get a lot of unique and brand name items but here's the catch: the mark up is absolutely unrealistic! I don't know how they base the pricing but I find myself laughing out loud a lot when I visit this thrift. It is a large store and it gets really busy. It is pretty well organized and racks are separated by theme/color. I have managed to score amazing shoes here for cheap and cool, unique jackets at a great price point but it is rare (since I often refuse to pay their crazy ticket prices). I've seen a lot of antique things including furniture, art work, records, kitchenware. They also get a lot of costume-like items so if you're looking for that sort of thing, you would most likely be successful here. I've been with guy friends here a few times and they usually find a nice jacket or unique sport coat for a great price. If you like to look and treasure hunt, this place is for you. The surplus of inventory makes for a good time but just be prepared to get sticker shock. read more

I have been going here for years, and this place became very popular for ten affordable items you were able to find. But now the prices have went up in value, like insane prices... things have a brand that is well known and it's marked way more than it should. An old crusty Stussy sweatshirt was being sold at the store for $249.99 and on eBay/ online it's 104.99 which shows that even the well known expensive brands are being marked for ridiculous amounts at this thrift store. I found a Patagonia jacket that was almost the same price as being sold for new at the actual store brand new. This beats the point of a thrift store. Even unknown brands are being marked up as I was looking at the graphic tees and some were being sold for 50$ just because the graphic was nice and it was screen printed, no brand on them. I am just genuinely disappointed... the employees are nice though and there is always a line to pay which is usual. No fitting rooms. read more

I am not usually a theiftwr, but I found the perfect dress that fit me like a glove for the dance party that night. And it was the perfect price of $12! Absolutely massive thrift store. Some good deals but also some things are really overpriced, mostly the clothes. I found a sweater that I liked and it was $70! Saw many jackets and other outerwear priced over $100. Also a lot of the toys are individually bagged and like $8 each which is pretty high for used plastic toys. I did find some books and some cool knicknacks and art, and my hubby scored some comic books. We had a good time here but definitely a little pricier than most thrift stores I frequent. read more

For many years, downtown Ventura was known as a good place to go thrifting. Since revamping "DTVTA", even prior to the pandemic and the closure of Main Street to accommodate an extended pedestrian zone, the number of thrift stores shrank. Now they are sprinkled among newer restaurants and shopping boutiques. Coalition Thrift Store remains, and seems ever-popular. They have a very large main room with mostly clothing in endless racks. They aren't always "cheap" or even "reasonable", depending on what you are seeking. For example, genuine NBA / NFL jerseys are still a pretty penny. You might still score a designer label if you are diligent in searching, and/or hit a lucky size opportunity. Toward the back they have an area with furniture, but I rarely venture back there. Sometimes Dear Hubby will scope out that area. To the right side, there is a smaller auxiliary room filled with housewares, like dishes, glasses, serving pieces, bedding, and seasonal items. I tend to go in to see what they have as far as quilts. They're usually hanging on the far western wall. Last weekend I got lucky and found two semi-vintage quilts (probably from the early 90's) in a pieced plaid star pattern with colors that work from fall through Christmas. They were in good condition, and an extremely good price. Always a treat to find a smashing deal! The cashier who checked out our purchase was delightful. She had a great attitude, even in the midst of a very busy afternoon. That bumped the shopping experience from two stars to three. The two stars is based on the sheer volume of stuff that doesn't carry an attempt to merchandise. Some other thrift shops do make that effort - especially on end caps to group same color items together and offer a bit of a theme. They likely don't have enough help here to make that kind of effort. You never know what you're going to find in a thrift store. Here, you have to be prepared to truly hunt for buried treasure. read more

Every thrifters heaven- Kind of weird that they take your bags from you as you enter the store but i had way too much fun to even care. So many OLD and great things for such a decent price!! I truly had so much fun walking up and down the aisles browsing. Ended up getting 4 items and spending about 28 dollars. All of my items were priced .99 cents-4.99 with the exception of one item at 14.99 which i could not pass up! 10/10 Recommended this place to my boss and she went with her daughter and loved it read more

This is a nice little store, maybe it's not so little? They have a amazing variety of things which sometimes don't seem to be particularly good deals. However, every now and then you do find a little trinket worth picking up. I hate to say it, most of the time I walk through refusing to touch anything. The thrift shops smell kind of musty, but I tolerate wandering through them for the cheap thrills. Actually every once in a long while. You find something authentic that's worth picking up. While strolling along Main Street yesterday, my friend and I happened upon this thrift shop. Saw a sign in the window that the proceeds from their sales benefit battered women and children...reason enough to give it a look, I thought. So in we went and found the store to be neatly organized and clean. We weren't looking for anything specific so started at the clothing. Well, women's shirts were racked according to color, several items still had original sales tags attached. The clothing we saw looked good, free from stains or tears, very different than what I had anticipated. My friend found 3 designer tops totaling $9.00 while I found one for a mere $2.99. What a fun surprise! In speaking with an employee, I learned the coalition accepts donations that folks bring in and if an item is too large, they also have a truck that will do pick ups. I love supporting thrift stores, especially when they benefit good causes, but I was really disappointed by my experience here. Most of the items are donated, yet the prices are shockingly high--often close to retail. It's disheartening to see a nonprofit thrift store with over a million in annual revenue charging so much, especially when the store doesn't even have air conditioning and the shopping experience feels uncomfortable. Eh-ok I happened to be in Downton around the time they opened and figure it would be a good time to check them out. I stayed for about an Hr and it was packed as I left. So best to go when they first open. My first thought was " ew, looks dirty" so that been said, maybe not the cleanest looking store. Their bric a brac section is not super impressive or organized and their items are priced ridiculously. They do however have a large amount of clothes and shoes. They have a lot of cowboy boots on the wall as well. I figure I would check the back of the store before leaving disappointed and I'm glad I did. Their furniture section is their redeemer. A lot of vintage pieces and those are well priced. I found a set of 4 crate and barrel chairs for $54. I also spotted some beautiful and good shaped coffee tables for around 40-50 bucks. I also found a brand new travel make up bag and a mini backpack almost new looking for cheap. Not a thrift store I would visit often but I love that their profits benefit abused people in our community so cheers for contributing to that. read more

This is the place to thrift during the holidays. They have everything you can imagine. And more. One of my closest older friends, she's more like a surrogate mama really, introduced to these Ventura thrift stores. Yep, it's a little way from Santa Barbara and an hours drive from LA. I don't care, I just browse away to my hearts delight. There's bone China, of the French and British varieties, this is my favvvv part. And bikini's and designer floral, beauty robes of the silky, sexy kind. This is the front portion of the store. The back segment of the store is a delight of random furniture and lamps. And anything possibly heavy you purchase you can swing yr car around the back and easily pick-up. Oh Vanessa, who runs the register is a doll. Thanks for wrapping all the China so meticulously. Went in for first time 2 days ago. I found 4 plant pots that I really liked - 2 of them were not priced, but, were the same size as the other 2 and found on the same shelf. The person at the register refused to sell the 2 unmarked to me. I asked if the manager could possibly assist in the pricing- the staff called her and not only did she say she would not help but actually took the items from my hands. Rude does not even begin to describe the treatment I received. Needless to say I did not purchase the 2 priced pots, not only did they lose a sale, but have lost a customer. A sad case of being Greedy...... We used to drive to Ventura just to go to the Coalition thrift store. Prices were very reasonable, then someone came in and began repricing EVERYTHING. I have seen bandanas that you can buy new for under $5.00 priced at $16.00. This is not only crazy but, is exceedingly greedy. This is a company that makes over $5 million a year. Greedy, Greedy, Greedy. T-shirts that have any kind of printing on them for as much as $40 or more. These used to be $1.99 to $4.99 sometimes $ 8 or $9. Apparently, no one with this organization seems to care about the terrible reputation this place is getting. I go to this store 2-3 times a week and walk around because I enjoy the downtown area and vibe. Every single week it seems like their prices are higher and higher. These clothes are donated, FREE. I get that the proceeds go to charity but something is not right. The people who live here are suffering under this economy too and are shopping thrift stores to find good deals and save money. If you truly are a charitable organization then this shopping experience should be a win win for the buyer and the charity. **Terrible Policy and Poor Customer Service** I recently had an incredibly frustrating experience at this thrift store. After driving 2 hours and spending another 2 hours shopping, I was told at the register that they couldn't sell me one of the items because the tag had fallen off. The $6.99 tag literally fell off as I reached the register, but the cashier insisted they couldn't sell it to me because the tag was "off." To make matters worse, she told me to come back on Monday to purchase the item, which was simply not possible given the time and distance involved. It's clear that stapling the pricing tags isn't working, and their rigid policy only adds to the frustration. I invested so much time and effort on my day off to visit this store, only to leave empty-handed and extremely disappointed. I won't be coming back, and I strongly advise anyone considering a visit to avoid this place. Their poor customer service and nonsensical policies make for a terrible shopping experience. Oh! First bad review I have left in my life. My service animal and I were told to leave and yelled at by the female manager in the middle of the store. My dog quickly barked at a dog that approached her and they seemed to feel this was grounds for making a scene. I was calm and explained that she was under control and it was a misunderstanding. She continued to insult me and be incredibly aggressive. It's like she wanted to make a scene and embarrass me. Mind you I have never had this happen. I am a very mellow person and generally really loved the rest of the people who work there. Incredibly disappointing. I won't be back. JUST A PSA....i have been shopping here for years and this is one of my favorite thrift stores, but my son found a bag of toys at and It was mine craft toys for $3.99. He opened the bag to play with them, while I was looking around. We brought it up to the front and he gave the lady the ticket, but not the baggie and they wouldn't sell it to us! This caused a HUGE meltdown and they wouldn't work with me! So be careful bringing your kid here and don't let them open anything or they won't sell it to you! read more

My girlfriend and I were kicked out because they said that we were stealing but we weren't stealing we had bought items from the thrift store up the street and they thought that we were taking them from their thrift stores. This review is specifically for the used books selection. I was looking for more children's book to read to my little one and board books are rather expensive purchased brand new. I went here and saw a package of 4-5 books ranging between 2-3$. The books ranged in quality. Some in almost new conditions and some with light wear and tear. Luckily board books are easy to clean and wipe down but I got about 14-15 books for under 8$. That's the price of 1-2 brand new books nowadays. Some of the books I got: good night moon, the hungry caterpillar, three Sandra Boynton books, Dr Seuss book, touch and feel furry animal book, and even books with sounds. Donations are consistently coming through and their pricers pull any items that could be considered a vintage, trendy piece and price outrageous. We're talking comparable to Rose Bowl Vintage Re-seller prices. This method doesn't just apply to clothing, you can see the same pattern throughout their children's toys, cassettes, books, you name it. This is no longer a "thrift" store. I have shopped here for fifteen plus years. There are always amazing finds to be found. From vintage linen, books and furniture to beautiful art and quality housewares. Yes, prices have increased over the years along with everywhere else. However, a person with an eye for quality and a little digging time will always find something worth the trip.
