Appears to be under new ownership. People there are nice enough, however, they over value and over price their merchandise. One person there is keen on adding some crazy build up on an item to justify the over pricing or will claim how they easily sell others like it for even more outside the store at swap meets, online or whatever. I feel the place can have a great potential to be more successful if they stop trying to get rich off of single sales, price products at least within reasonable industry standards for a given item and also realize that Ventura is too small a town to get away with cheap fast talk to get people to over pay before people catch on and a business' reputation is tarnished. read more

The 2016 YELP 500, Review #085: I was in Ventura for a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy concert on Saturday, April 2, 2016 and I didn't want to leave town without having a look around. I am glad I did. I really enjoyed my experience looking through this store (they have a LOT of stuff) but, it was a Sunday and I was racing the sunset... (they would be closing soon) and I wanted to see a lot more of the town. So I cheated myself. My biggest tip to someone coming into town is to allot enough time on Main Street to enjoy it. I love American vintage. It's so adorable and perfect all around. It's the kind of store you could get lost in for hours. Also being on Main Street makes it a desirable shop to stop by after brunch etc. The store is much much bigger then I expected. While it's narrow it's collected with plenty of items, down the middle, rows to the side, and like I said it goes on and on and on I could get lost here for hours. Being an antique shop it has everything and anything, new, old, big, small, I think if you don't mind "used" goods this place has something for someone. Pricing seemed decent. It's more of how bad do you want the thing then anything being over priced. I had been eyeing a silver garnet ring in the front counter for a few weeks. Lucky for me when I returned it was still there and in my size, who would have guessed it...$40 later I left with a Beautiful ring that I will have for life, also did appear to have been worn or used, for $40 id say it was a steal. Service: friendly. Not pushy by any means which I appreciated because it gave me the chance to look around without feeling like people were watching me. But when I did need assistance I was easily able to get the attend of one of the ladies at the register to help me. She was lovely and patient while I tried on two different rings over and over trying to make my pick. I was in downtown Ventura browsing when I ran across American Vintage. I am not a huge vintage fan but I can appreciate when something is vintage because items aren't made like they used to be. They had a large inventory of items. They had a chinchilla wrap that was nice. Reasonably priced I thought for chinchilla. Terrible! I bought a grandfather clock for 400.00 and it worked in the store but not at home!!! No number listed for them anywhere! The one on the receipt is incorrect. I'm so disappointed and in tears! I hope they consider refunding and taking it back! But I can't call anyone! read more

Cool shop with a lot of really great things. You could truly spend a lot of time there looking at all that they have. The low rating is because my friend was interested in buying something that had a price tag on it for $240. When we got to the counter the woman working said it was actually $300. They had to raise prices because their costs had gone up. Ummm...I'm sorry but what?! Makes no sense. Change the price tag if that's the case. Changing the price when someone wants to buy seems super shady. She was very nice but hard pass on the purchase. The item my friend was interested in has been there for a very long time. Hands down this was my favorite place to shop when visiting Ventura. There are so many cool things in this vintage shop. This is an antique shop and it has some of the coolest things I've seen. The prices are a lot better than the antique shops that we have back home in Sacramento. I found two things and I'm really pleased that I got to support such a lovely shop. The workers were so kind and personable. I can't say enough good things. There was a treasure at every single turn. There were even nice areas where things were kind of organized by item type which makes it easy to find something that you might be looking for. There were sale items thought the store with really good prices as well. All in all, I couldn't recommend this shop enough it's so fun even if you're just browsing through. I went into American Vintage this last weekend looking for sports memorabilia, as I do in all antique shops. The lady behind the counter was very nice and accommodating. Came across some vintage cards and sports items in booth #50. He had a decent collection of vintage sports items. Unfortunately, he did not have any other cards to compare the larger size card with. The lady called the owner of the booth, and he did work with me on the price some. I ended up purchasing 4 sports cards. I also noticed the sign at the counter said, "All sales final". I thought that could be a problem for someone, which it would be for me in this instance. Once I got home to Clovis, CA, I compared the cards I bought to my cards. I noticed that the 1955 Bowman card was cut and trimmed quite a bit shorter than all of my other 1955 Bowman cards from the same year. This card is worthless AND the shop doesn't accept returns. What a waste! The card isn't worth a thing!! I am very upset that a person would knowingly sell cards that are altered, especially since it should have been labeled that it was trimmed. It is his responsibility to know what he is selling. That's what a reputable dealer would do. If you want to purchase anything from this dealer, I would be very hesitant and check your items VERY carefully!!! Personally, I would not purchase a thing from this dealer unless you are fully aware it is authentic and not altered because "All Sales Are Final" and they only accept cash! Not a good rating for this seller and disappointed that this store has policies in place to protect a dishonest transaction. read more

Went in three times to check this place out. It was amazing all of the vintage items in here. I was so intrigued. I was excited when I found a bracelet that matched an old ring here. The item was way over priced but the wonderful thing about this place was that they were willing to negotiate. So I asked the first time if they could take $100 for it. The guy who they called, I guess his name was Bryan he said the lowest he would go was $120. I was $20 dollars short that day otherwise I would have bought it. I was bummed but I said I would come back later if it was still there and pick it up for $120. Well when I came back I asked if I could purchase it. They said Bryan had come in to see it and changed his mind. I had $120 now this dude wanted $140! Lol so I said I will come back again to get it for $140! So I have to go to work and I ask my girlfriend to please go pick it up for me and I give her the $140. My girlfriend goes meanwhile I am excited I am going to get this awesome bracelet that I have been desiring. Well-this Woman at American Vintage Antique Store at 384 E Main St charges my girlfriend $167!!!!!! They did not honor their word. We should have purchased this at $120. Goosfraba! Woosah! I am over it but lol this place was a joke on the price game. I get it though. Business is Business but Buyers Be Aware: IF THEY GIVE YOU A PRICE TAKE IT ON THE SPOT BECAUSE THESE FOLKS WILL LIE CHEAT AND STEAL TO GET A FEW BUCKS MORE. Anyhow I gladly paid my girlfriend for the bracelet lol even though I felt she should have told them to put it somewhere where the sun don't shine. So that's why they get a one star from me.
