Birthday/Christmas Eve celebration. Place was cute and a bit confusing to find at first (it was night time and at a gold course). I'll have to go during the day to enjoy the views. Place was decorated for the holidays and one of the few spots that I was able to get a last minute rsvp after another restaurant cancelled our rsvp because of a system error. Service and server were great, food choices were not as many as I would've desired but we managed to find our picks. Overall nice place. Like I said, I'll have to check the place out during daylight hours.

Both food and service are great. Homemade pastas really make the difference. Also, one helluva burger.

Lovely setting for sunset dinner. I recommend the prosciutto fig sauce pizza. Thin crispy crust topped with salty, tender prosciutto topped with a sweet fig sauce...the flavor contrast is fantastic. The calamari is light, fresh, breaded in corn meal. Nice beer and cocktail menu. Service was wonderful, attentive. Highly recommend!

This was a "chopped" salad with "Caesar". It was neither of those things.

The Italian meal included bread, salad, and soup to start things off. Dishes included sliced sausage with peppers (our favorite), penne pasta marinara, and chicken marsala. The owners are so friendly and hands-on, making sure every guest feels like part of the family. The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and perfect for and special casual meal with loved ones. The food? Absolutely delicious! Every dish is made with care and top-quality ingredients. We started with the homemade bread with garlic spread and calamari "Bobby style" a signature appetizer, which was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. For the main course, I had the Veal Pancetta, and as always it was one of the best I've ever had - rich, flavorful, and packed with layers of love (you can really taste the passion in the cooking). You can tell this restaurant is dedicated to keeping things local and supporting the community, which I truly appreciate. It's rare to find a place that combines amazing food with such a strong sense of family and connection. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area - you won't be disappointed! We'll definitely be back!

IMPORTANT: IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A WHILE, TRY IT AGAIN UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT…read more As I note below, I had been to the bar, but not the restaurant since it re-opened earlier this year after a water leak required them to close and remodel. We were expecting an "okay" meal and I'm delighted to say that they exceeded every expectation. This spot is a traditional, old time Italian spot and is a TOTAL home run. Greeted by the manager whom I had met before -- always a positive to be recognized, especially after only one other visit. Gentleman pouring our water and bringing the bread (warm, delicious, and served with olive oil, garlic, Parmesan) recognized the other couple with whom we came and hugs were exchanged (literally!) - this gentleman was upbeat and smiling and set a positive tone right out of the blocks. Our server/waiter was equally fabulous. He was attentive, knowledgable, personable...and emblematic of the type of restaurant this is, walked us through the menu (a lot of traditional Italian dishes) and a good list of specials (he had tried them all) ... and then noted that the chef will pretty much prepare anything provided they have the components. THAT, to me, is a sign of a great old-time Italian place. As is the personal visit from the chef. Entrees include a side salad or soup, so we skipped the appetizers. The side salads were as one might expect -- the house-made balsamic dressing served on the side was rich and fabulous. For the entrees: one order of the halibut, one pasta, and two of one of the specials: scallops in a saffron cream sauce. Four strong positive reviews. I'll add that I've eaten at the bar once, and ordered the veal parm which came with a side of pasta, and was elated with the food, the ambiance, and the service. The room is pretty traditional -- bar on the left, two well appointed (and pretty full) dining rooms to the right; tables and booths, white tablecloth, etc. Genuinely feels a bit like being in an old, traditional Chicago or New York Little Italy spot...but in suburban Glenview. There are a bunch of new entrants into the restaurant market in Glenview, and we have tried them all...and came here to make sure we were supporting the old standards. Gusto is a gem, and deserves every bit as much attention as its new competitors. Of note...with the new entrants, parking is at a premium. Gusto has its own lot...and offers complimentary valet for when it's full.

Fried zucchini app - the breading had mostly fallen off by the time it got to us so we were just eating zucchini which was mushy and wet. I'm guessing the moistness of the zucchini is why the breading didn't stay on but I dont know. Eggplant appetizer - this was fine Branzino special - good fish but they ran out of polenta and everyone was disappointed since a bunch of people in our group ordered it. Most ended up w a side of spaghetti that didn't have enough sauce and one got mashed potatoes that he said were bland. Tortellini special - overcooked, making the noodles too soft. A good wine list too. We the fresh baked bread is a nice touch with parm and EVOO. It was a packed house and our server was trying her best but just couldn't keep up -- there were long waits between service steps and the lack of attention to water refills became annoying. We enjoyed our food-- the Caesar salads were fresh and crisp and the entrees were generously portioned-- the spinach ravioli, vodka sauce rigatoni, shrimp linguine, and eggplant parm. My EP parm was excellent -- still crispy with tasty marinara sauce and a nice portion of gooey mozzarella-- the side of linguine with tomatoes and spinach was a nice surprise. We enjoyed the Santa Julia Malbec bottle too. They tack on a 3% charge that the staff doesn't share in so we asked to remove it. Overall good but the service needs to level up!

We loved the old Viaggio's and really wanted to love Nico's, but one major design decision has completely changed the experience for us. The bar was always the heart of this restaurant. It was a comfortable neighborhood bar where locals could have dinner, drinks and conversation. The new owners installed the pizza oven and pizza-making station directly in the middle of it. As a result, the bar is now literally a pizza counter. When you sit there, you are sitting directly in front of a working pizza station, watching pizzas being prepared, with boxes and supplies around the bar. Instead of feeling like you're having dinner and drinks at a neighborhood bar, it feels like you're sitting at the counter of a pizzeria. For us, that simply isn't an appealing or relaxing way to spend an evening. The layout also makes normal bar service extremely awkward. The pizza operation physically separates the bartenders from many of the customers sitting at the bar, requiring them to walk around the bar to take orders and serve patrons. Finally, you are sitting directly in front of a large, very hot pizza oven. The heat is significant. The pizza maker working in front of the oven was, quite understandably, sweating heavily throughout the evening just a few feet in front of us while we were trying to eat dinner. That's not a criticism of the employee--it's an illustration of why placing a commercial pizza oven directly in the middle of a dining bar simply doesn't work. The frustrating part is that so much about Nico's is good, particularly the staff. But putting the pizza operation in the middle of what was previously the heart of the restaurant fundamentally changes the experience. I hope the owners reconsider the layout and return the bar to being a bar. We would happily come back.
