2004 GMC Sierra 2500 Truck overheated while in Coarsegold. Went to Coarsegold Car Car/Automotive. They changed thermostat. That was on Saturday. Said it was now the water pump. Installed water pump Monday. Still didn't fix it. Now it's Thursday and they still haven't fixed it and don't know what's wrong. Having it towed to my trusted mechanic in Oakhurst like I should have done initially rather than thinking they could handle something simple. They evidently don't diagnose problems and just change parts. Very disappointed in the service here. Never be back again. $700 bill (they do charge mechanics rates even though they're not really mechanics) and nothing for it. No diagnoses. Just wanting to do more guessing. Stay away. My car won't start on the driveway at my Coaraegold house. It's a really odd problem - starter passes all bench test, voltage goes to the starter just fine, the starter engages but just won't turn. I towed it down to Reggie's place and they spent all day diagnosing the problem. Literally, ALL DAY. At 3:30pm I went down there, and they finally found that the wire between the relay and the starter was loose and wasn't providing enough juice to the starter. While we were at it I asked them to figure out why the car shakes badly at 65mph and above. Reggie asked them to put it in third and rev the rear wheels while he watches. Took him a minute to find the passenger rear tire has a flat spot. He gave me a quote on the tire and charged me a pretty reasonable fee for the whole day of work. I went there on recommendation from a gentleman at Oakhurst Auto Zone. I can safely say based on my extensive experience with cars and mechanics these guys are good, honest people. Travelers to Yosemite only need mechanics service in the most unfortunate situations, these guys can provide crucial help to them. I highly recommended them. read more

This time the person who answered my call answered all my questions and gave me prices and we set up a date and time to get my stepdaughters car repaired. Bravo!!! We've used Coarsegold car care a few times, and they've always been reliable and honest. I appreciate the fact that they fix my cars, the price is as quoted or lower, and they don't do unnecessary work. This last time I needed new brakes and rotors. Plus my headlights were out, and since they're a massive pain to reach, I asked them to replace them. Well, apparently there was a warehouse discount on purchasing the brakes and rotors-- so they passed it to me. My headlight was unplugged, so they just re-plugged it in for me rather than charging for the light and labor. In the past, if there's been an issue they couldn't fix, they've told us plainly and been able to refer us to someone who could. Anyway, they're reliable and honest. Great mechanic. read more

Our 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320 SUV was leaking coolant. It was so bad I had to keep adding coolant before each time we drove the car. I stopped by Coarsegold Car Care to see if someone could take a quick look. When I walked in, the nice gentleman behind the counter asked me if I remembered him. Since it was my first time at Coarsegold Car Care, I was confused. The new owner as of a few weeks ago is Pat Ratzlaff who also owns Pat's Affordable Towing in Oakhurst. Pat refreshed my memory that he made a service call to my house. Not only did he remember me, but he thanked me for the much deserved 5 star Yelp review I left his towing business! Pat personally looked under my hood and recommended that I start with a new coolant reservoir cap to save me the one hour labor charge to inspect the SUV. He also noticed that one of the fan belts was frayed. Since the SUV had not been checked out for years, I decided to have it inspected. They found the problem, but had to order the replacement parts which included a new coolant reservoir cap, a fan belt, and the problem part; they would arrive in two days. Pat offered me snacks while I waited. They added coolant and asked me to call back to make sure the parts came in and to make an appointment. The parts were new, genuine Mercedes-Benz parts. I called two days later, the parts came in as promised, and I made the appointment. I came back on a Monday morning and waited while they worked on my car. Sean, the ASE certified mechanic, worked on my car. Pat, even though he had a business to run, made sure I was happy while waiting. We engaged in great conversation. He introduced me to his very nice wife, his vendors and even other customers. I really felt like I was in Mayberry in the Andy Griffith show. I have never been treated like this at any business. Pat's hourly rate and total charge for services were extremely reasonable and certainly lower than the dealership or an independent shop that specializes in European cars. He also offers free Wi-Fi and coffee. Pat will not upsell you on services that can wait or are not needed. Although his business does not specialize in European cars, his staff can certainly fix any mechanical problems of a European car and do a great job at a reasonable price. Thank you, Pat. Coming down the hill from Oakhurst on Monday afternoon, I notice I had a leak in the radiator. So we stopped at a gas station and I saw there was a leak in one of the hoses. I found Coarsegold Car Care online and called to see if they could assist. I pulled in to find the shop busy at 3pm. With a 300 mile drive ahead, I was concerned that we might not be able to get the repair done before the end of the day. But once we pulled in, Pat dropped everything and gave us his full attention. He and two of his mechanics jumped to the rescue and repaired the hose (which he could not replace after calling three suppliers), recharged our AC and sent on our way after nearly 2 hours. Pat is one busy guy, having both the repair shop and a tow business. He was handling two incoming cell phones non-stop as he had his hands in/under our hood. It's as if he had four arms to be able to juggle all things at the same time. And the pricing was beyond fair, it was a bargain. I'm not one to crow about service but in this case, I will because it was exceptional. We're a one-car family and woke up to a dead battery, even though it was recently diagnosed as "GOOD" by the dealer. AAA got us started and recommended we take it to the Coarsegold Car Care, which we did. Don squeezed us in, even though they were busy, and a mechanic immediately went to work on it. This is a difficult battery to remove, but it was tested, removed and replaced within 20 minutes and we didn't lose any of our pre-sets (radio, seat/mirrors, etc.). The charge was less than what I expected, and what the dealer would have charged for a top of the line battery. Good service and fair prices, it don't get no better than that! read more

My fiance dropped her car off on Tuesday when she broke down and they said they would get her car fixed and let her know asap what was wrong with it. We called today and nobody had worked on it . They said they needed to call her to authorize them to work on it. WTF is that ? No we asked you to fix it because we don't want you to look at it. All in all they did a look over on her car for basics told her what we already knew and charged us $85 to do it . Now we have to tow it somewhere else because they were incompetent and we're not up to the task. I will never come here or send anyone I know to this thrifty car shop . I tried this establishment a few years ago with poor results. I decided to try it again since it is under new management. I was very disappointed and will not do business with them again. I was charged 618.00 dollars for a part I found online from more than one source ranging in price from 191-217 dollars. I found the technicians response to my questions about price to be defensive and condescending stating that non-OEM parts would just fail and he didn't want to track down the manufacturer to mess with replacements. Yet I was also told OEM parts failed so often the OEM manufacturer started selling the modules separately vs. in an assembly so I find his explanation to be deficient. As a result, I paid higher sales taxes than I otherwise would have and was charged a $2.00 waste disposal fee for an old part the technician took home with him. Even the new OEM part only comes with a 12 month warranty making the explanation for a part three times the cost even more ridiculous. As I said, I will not do business there again. I'd rather go back to my old mechanic who is out of town. read more
