I found Mel on Yelp and decided to get an estimate from him. I told him that my computer suddenly stopped working and I have some pictures that I would like to retrieve. He told me "no problem," he would try and see if it was possible, and gave me worst-case scenarios and other options if he wasn't able to retrieve the files. I dropped off my PC at his business and he got right to work. A few days later, he informed me that due to the factory installation location of the memory stick right next to two high heat sources, the memory chip was fried. He asked if I would like to retrieve the data, explaining that he could send it to a specialist, but that it would cost an arm and a leg to do so. He found me the best deal on a trustworthy memory brand that would last me. I picked up my PC and he explained all he had done. He was able to find a different location for the memory stick and installed a heatsink to prevent future failures. My PC runs better than it did before.
