Beware, unbelievable price gouging! Went in for a diagnostic (priced at $75 yet on thier maps info there's a screen at the start of thier video that says "free diagnostics", actual labor time is about an hour, proper pricing should be about 30$), got a call a full day later stating my two choices were $225 for the part (7yr old motherboard) and $99 for the install or a full upgrade rebuild for $300-$400++, I used a popular search bar and found the part for $48 refurbished in the box from a big box vendor/reseller, same manufacturer, same model, exact replacement, see the pictures, (it'll only take me 20mins to install), put up a one star review for the outrageous pricing, went in to pick up my computer, was aggressively confronted and threatened about the review by one of the owners (some used car salesman type), the second owner (Jeremy) arrived and calmed the situation down, he asked that I remove the review in exchange for not charging me the $75. I did as he asked, feeling that they had made it right, the next day I opened up my computer to get the part number, I find the power cables for the video card and HD disconnected; and the small battery missing off the motherboard, I attempted to call and see if they wanted to make the situation correct, call was ignored and not returned. This business is in the process of dying. They are price gouging everyone that walks in the door. I would do yourself a favor and look it up online or take it to the big box store where they charge 25$ for the same service. It's a shame, I prefer to deal with a small buisness for the personal experience, and I believe that these two owners were probably not like this when they opened, unfortunately the stress of a failing buisness and money problems have clearly tainted thier entire outlook and they are on course for certain failure. Just a few words of wisdom: Never treat your customers as if they are too stupid to use a search bar, it'll end up costing you everything; and fair business practices will always be the most profitable buisness plan (taught on day 1 of business 101). read more

Straight-forward pricing, $49 to diagnose hardware or $99 to reflash OS. They called and said hard file was bad and would cost $199 to replace and reflash. Was a 1 Tera drive housed in a relatively new Lenovo desktop PC with 8 gig of memory. I think I paid only $279 for it new at Frye on sale, but apparently the days of getting deals like that are long over with, all I could now find at Frye for anything under $400 was refurbished no-name junk. Long story short, I was talked into fixing the old one, and to springing an additional $50 for a solid state 1/2 Tera hard file. So now I'm at the $249 mark. But when they were finished, I had a lightening fast machine that performed better than the Lenovo when new (possibly bad disk right out of the box that took 18 months to die), in fact it's as fast as my Lenovo laptop which is running on 16 gig of memory. They were also able to save and restore all of my files. But the real reason for using these guys has nothing to do with price or hardware and everything to do with support after the sale. Had to come back a couple times because of file access issues with multiple users, and they went the additional length to make sure everything was working satisfactorily after the sale when it would have been easy for them to say "It's your problem not ours". read more

Seriously. As good as it gets. Short Version- Doctors of Technology saved a manuscript...and 700 gigs of data !...for only $75...after a competitor of theirs said it was unrecoverable. Full Version- I had hard-booted my Dell Vostro because it was hanging up. Afterwards it would only go to the Windows logo screen. I took it in to a competitor, who charged me $50 for the diagnostic, only to tell me that they couldn't see anything and offered to wipe it clean. I then called Doctors of Technology. Jeremy answered right away, listened to my problem and asked me to bring it in. Office very clean...like a doctor's office...I dropped it off and he said he'd call me before the end of the day. At 4:00 I received a phone call from Phil saying it was ready. He burned the manuscript to a CD immediately. I told him I would bring by an external drive for all the other data. I dropped off the drive and he gave me the CD. My beloved manuscript (many hours of work) was indeed intact. Highly recommended. read more

I held off on this Review till it had time to mature into more accurate, in depth tell-tale result. I thought I had done my research by reading other reviews on this site. Seems to be a discrepancy with the seemingly "Too good to be true" Glowing reports of others and the actual ... clouded results realized by myself. Complaint sites are just that. People use them to "Complain" -- NOT to sing praises. That's not rocket science to recognize a heavily "Salted Report"! If it sounds too good to be true; it probably isn't...True! One of my career choices before I retired was in computer repair. Having been employed at IBM and associated with various other companies utilizing micro-processor driven technical products. The disk drive on my computer crashed and I took it to "Doctors of Technology" because I no longer had access to the tools of the trade myself, being now retired. They replaced the drive without saving my Data files and loaded their (discount brand) of Microsoft op/sys. They acted more than a little suspicious explaining "their version" of software they employed. They inauspiciously made repeated attempts to get me to upgrade my computer to a later version operating system, directly from Microsoft; aware of the flaws in their software. Then over the past few months the computer evolved into a slowly degenerating nightmare with multiple problems in the daily operation. With the ongoing battle to "Settle" with a less than a whole Op/Sys to get my daily processing done I've given up and will just replace the computer. Also they tried to "Sell" me one of their off brand computers, which to the novice would be difficult to "Know" they were peddling little more than "High Grade Junk"... most likely no better than the gradually decaying software they burdened my computer with. I like how the price is straight forward but not a fan of when they upsell you. I consider that as "hustling you". Specially when you're an aggressive upseller. For example, if you find additional "concerns" to my computer and tackle on a new price on top of my original concern and original price with a slick way of aggregating the total cost that just flew over my head, that's hustling. I was like, I thought it was $95, how is it now $145. When they ran it back, they weren't in the wrong coz they said it so fast. I can't get mad at them. Took a drive that was suddenly not functioning properly to these guys. They ran diagnostics on it an said it wasn't anything mechanical so he fixed the data areas that were corrupted. Charge $150.00. Got it home and started to back it up to another drive. Took me over a day to get this done because it still wasn't working properly. I probably spent more time trying to back up the drive, they said should be fine, then the person who actually did any work on it. After calling them back I was told "the drive was going bad". I was going to have them install a new larger SSD drive in one of my laptops but after this experience I think I'll pass. read more

I always used to be nervous picking a specialty service like this out of the Yellow Pages. Now, thanks to sites like Yelp out there to keep the world on the straight and narrow, you can do so with a greater degree of confidence, but when your PC crashes, it's still a terrifying proposition. I called Doctors of Technology, based on a few great online reviews (it may have been Google or yellowpages reviews, I cannot recall), and they directed me to their Sunset and Eastern location. I was positive it was a crash, and I would have been grateful if they were just able to recover the information on my hard drive. I asked how long it would take, and they nonchalantly told me that it's usually less than 24hrs. That was impressive, though I though a bit optimistic. Lo and behold, I get a call later on that same day, letting me know it was 100% operational. I was amazed. Same day service, and the best part....it was only $99.! I could not have been happier, especially since I was facing the expense of buying a new laptop, AND losing 2 year's work. (Yes, I've since switched to an external drive, and back up regularly now. These guys are absolutely the best. I had issues with my laptop and couldn't get it to turn on. I went to a couple other places where they talked down to me like there was something wrong with me for not understanding. Then they told me My computer was fried and nothing could be done. I explained that my laptop had several videos and pictures of my late husband so could they please try again. I was told I should of backed them up. I decided to try one more place Doctors of Technology. When I walked in I was greeted by Phil, I told him I had an issue not being able to turn on my computer it was frozen. I also told him about the videos and photos that were on the laptop which is the thing I wanted the most and how the other two stores said there was nothing that could be done. Phil said to give him 24 hours to diagnose the problem and if there was nothing that could be done there would be no charge. This was about 4pm. The next morning I got a call from Phil telling me he found the issue and it could be fixed by ordering a simple part and installing something to stop viruses. When I came to pick up my computer he took the time to explain everything in a way I could understand. The price was very good and the best part was that he gave me a flash drive and helped me download that the photos and videos from my computer and told me how to upload them to the cloud so I would never loose them. I had some problems with the installation of a special type of hydrology software that required modifications to windows in order to work properly. I was stuck with a deadline that required me to finish my project over the weekend. I would have normally gone to the place I have used in the past, but they are not open on weekends beyond limited morning hours, so I had decided to try this place after I had remembered seeing due to people holding signs out on Sunset Road. I know it seems silly to go to a place to work on your computer that has people out on the street holding signs, but I was really glad that I did go to them. I left my computer with the person that assisted me with a promise from him that he would be able to get the software installed and working properly before the end of the day. About 1 hour later I received a call that everything was properly installed. Since then I have used the program and everything works perfectly. I recently took a refurbished 2011 or 2012 Mac Book Pro in to Phil at Doctors of Technology. I was pretty sure the motherboard was no good, and Phil confirmed same. He was very professional, well spoken, and polite. He didn't try to sell me anything or get a repair that would cost more than the unit was worth. I asked if he'd be willing to buy the unit for parts, and he did, and offered me $80. I saw a small Dell Inspirion Mini for sale for $89, and asked if he'd be willing to trade it for my unit. He did, and even put Windows 7 on it for me as well. It's a great little unit, just perfect for running my business quoting software. I was told my laptop was broken for good. Once I took it home, it turned right on and had no problems. Clearly trying to make a quick sale. After causing water damage to my laptop, I quickly took it in to have it inspected and diagnosed to see if there was any way to save it. I was told that the motherboard, keyboard, and battery are shot. The hard drive was in tact and could be used to transfer data to a new one. I asked how much to fix it and, after a couple go-arounds and vague estimations, it would be more cost effective to buy a new one (not really surprising). I heard the pitch for the laptops they had on site and decided not to buy that day. I paid the fee for the diagnostic and left. After I began looking for a new laptop, I decided to just try mine one more time. The computer fired right up and has no problems. I suppose the computer repair people may have just cleaned it out, thereby solving the water damage issue. Asked them to build me a computer, motherboard went out in 8 mos, of course they charged me to repair it. Asked them to re-attach the heat sync on an old computer, as I don t have the high-heat adhesive required to do so, the attached it with a hot glue gun (cost 120.00$) I could have done that with similar success(heat sync fell off a day later) Not a customer for life for sure. The one star rating is only because it requires you give them a minimum of 1 star, I would give them none if it were allowed. read more
