I've lived at Coast for over 10 years. The location in Lakeshore East is perfect. Pretty much anything you need or are interested in doing is within walking distance or public transportation. Extraordinary views of Lake Michigan, the Chicago River and the city. The staff (including management, front desk, package room, maintenance and janitors) keep the place running efficiently. I enjoy the diverse group of renters who all gather together for assorted events sponsored by the building throughout the year. Special recognition to Jennifer and Brandon at the front desk and Ken in the package room for being warm, friendly, professional and making it feel nice to come "home" to Coast. read more

We had an amazing experience living here and truly loved our time in the building. The entire staff is incredibly kind, friendly, and always willing to help, which makes such a difference in everyday life. Jay is honestly the best leasing officer you could ask for. He has always been attentive, professional, and ready to help whenever we needed anything. Jenn and Brandon at the front desk are fantastic and always greet everyone with a smile, and Ken is the king of the mailroom. Packages are always organized and he's clearly on top of everything. The location is perfect and the amenities are awesome. We used the gym and spa almost every day and really enjoyed them. The views from the building are beautiful and we made so many great memories while living here. We also spent a lot of time in the community areas with friends and family, which made the experience even better. Another thing we really appreciated is how the building organizes events throughout the year to bring residents together and make the community feel more connected. It's clear they really care about creating a great environment for everyone who lives here. Management communication has always been clear and reliable. Any time maintenance needed to happen, like temporarily shutting off the water, checking elevators, or coming into the unit for routine inspections, it never bothered us. That's part of living in a well-maintained building and it actually shows that they are always keeping things in good shape. Our unit was spacious and very well laid out. We lived in a one-bedroom and absolutely loved it. We honestly left with a heavy heart and only because we had to. This has been by far the worst living experience I have ever had, and I would strongly caution anyone considering moving here--unless you are paying for one of the "premium" units, do not waste your time. I moved in at the end of June, and the problems started immediately. The apartment was not cleaned prior to move-in (first red flag). The refrigerator and air conditioner were broken from day one. The entire unit reeked of cat urine from the previous tenant. Vents were filthy, the ceiling was in terrible shape, cabinets were falling off their hinges, and the kitchen faucet was leaking. The refrigerator motor has repeatedly gone out, a broken window took three months to be fixed, and the washer still doesn't work properly, causing damage to clothes. The dryer is just as bad, blowing lint all over the walls and interior. To top it off, the bathtub was stained and dirty from the previous tenant and has never been addressed. Also having a humidity problem which was addressed by giving me a de-humidifier and never finding the root cause of the issue. What makes this even worse is the complete lack of concern from management. It took three months before I was able to meet with the property manager, Alexis, whose only response to this long list of issues was, "Sorry about your experience." That's not customer service--that's dismissal. The conditions are unacceptable, and the management is unprofessional. I was torn between two buildings at LSE but decided to go with Coast due to the amazing experience I had looking at a few different 1 bedroom layouts. Jay from the leasing team at Coast immediately made me feel comfortable and actively listened to what was most important to me. He was very responsive to my follow ups and went above and beyond in answering all my questions and offering solutions regarding the area and why it would be great for me and my pup. We loved living at the Coast! As empty nesters and sailors we decided to move part time from the suburbs to the city . After looking at over 15 apartments and condos we chose the COAST in LSE. We loved it so much we sold our home of 25 years and moved downtown permanently and never looked back! Besides our fabulous view and balcony nothing could compare to the staff, including Brandon Brown at the front desk. He was polite, kind and considerate and made everyone feel welcome. DO NOT LIVE HERE! I've been living here for nine months now and this place is a nightmare. First off, the insulation around the windows is almost nonexistent, which means that in the winter when you turn the heat on massive amount of condensation will build up on the inside of the unit and mold will grow everywhere (see photos). Humidity built up so badly that water got under my floorboards and started flooding out when you stepped on it. The only solution management had was to run a commercial dehumidifier 24/7 which caused my electricity bill to spike and was consistently loud throughout the day. Mold grows everywhere and it's disgusting. The second problem is the security. Multiple cars have been broken into or outright stolen. No response from management besides sending out emails asking to lock up valuables. Issue has persisted for several months. The third problem is now the constant construction that is taking place on several vacant units. The apartment sounds like a warzone and goes throughout the day and Saturday. Lakeshore East is an amazing place to live, but do not come to Coast. This apartment complex is awful and there are so many good options elsewhere in the area. There is a reason the reviews are so bad on this apartment complex, believe the people who wrote about it and go anywhere else. read more

The management, front door staff, and maintenance staff are great. Always willing to help and go above and beyond. 4.5/5 for them. I'm giving this place 3/5 because of the type of residents that live here. The main crowd here are young 20-30s professionals and it gets LOUD and ROWDY. My neighbors are always throwing parties and blasting loud music at night. There's always people yelling in the hallways. I'm primarily moving just because of how noisy the residents here are. I want peace and quiet when I'm sleeping. read more

We moved here 6 years ago from another state and Brandon was the first person we met when we arrived, flustered by the polar vortex and moving into a whole new city and state. I live in unit 3502. I moved into the unit on 5/9/2023. Apparently, the pictures I have provided aren't enough proof that there is mold in this unit. And even though I have informed management that I have been physically ill since moving here, they don't consider this to be an emergency. I submitted the photos of the baseboard/wall on 6/15/2023 and no one is coming to look at it until 6/22/2023. I was told to contact my insurance to submit a claim for displacement. Coast (apartment building) and Morguard (management company) then reminded me that my rent is due. I took a few closeups. This is by far the most disgusting thing I have ever encountered in an apartment. I've been going back to pack clothes and even though I'm only in there an hour or two with a KN95 mask, I've been feeling worse and worse. read more

We've enjoyed living at the Coast building in Lakeshore East. This area near downtown is a lesser-known treasure, with easy access to the riverwalk, the lakefront, a nearby Mariano's, and everything else around the loop. The front door staff, particularly Brandon and Jennifer, are truly amazing. Anytime of day, they're always there with a friendly attitude and willing to help out with any question or concern from residents. Our mailroom man, Ken, is also incredibly friendly and knows basically everyone by name; can't say enough nice things about him. My only gripe is our parking garage no longer offers guest parking options due to previous safety concerns from car break-ins. read more

Many things to love about living at Coast! Stunning views, great amenities, and many spacious floor plan options with huge balconies. But the staff may be the biggest selling point for this community. From the moment you walk into the building the door staff, Brandon in particular, immediately makes you feel right at home and works hard to give residents and guests the best experience possible. Leasing and maintenance staff are also readily available and quickly respond to any concerns. AVOID - I AM TRAUMATIZED The management office charged me $2500 to REPAINT THE WALLS. They are scammers! I painted two of my walls in my bedroom dark blue, and they charged me a WHOLE MONTH'S RENT to re-paint them! I moved out of there 8 months ago and they are still HARASSING me and threatened me 4 times already that they will report me to collections. They claim a 'free month' when you sign up? BE CAREFUL, they will get that money back by charging you for random things. ALSO, the management staff are VERY RUDE. I had general questions about subleasing, adding roommates, etc. and EVERY TIME they made me feel like I was bothering them, hurrying me out the door. Priscilla Martinez, the leasing consultant even went as far as to wish me 'good luck finding another apartment'. Is that a threat? I have never been disrespected like that in my life. I have had anxiety over Jacquelyn Hinojosa, the 'community manager' e-mailing me harassing me for the past 8 months. Threatening collections, giving me 12 hours to pay. This has to be illegal? I had a very disturbing experience today. I stopped by close to 2:00 pm requesting info on rentals and a tour. While I was waiting a maintenance staff member as well as a painter requested to see the camera footage of the pool. The lobby attendant proceeded to pull up the footage and they proceeded to make comments about the women at the pool. They went as far as to refer to their apartment numbers. Certainly isn't the caliber of building I would ever live in. Can't imagine what the staff does when no one is around. read more

The elevators are abysmal. The algorithm or something needs to be fixed because it is so slow. It's about a 20 minute wait to go up or down the elevators. The line for the elevators would go all the way to the entrance of the building. For a 46 floor building and a "luxury" building this is unacceptable read more

During my time spent here, all of the staff were not only friendly, but also real helpful. The apartment had a great view. Gym has everything you need and doesn't really get crowded unless it's a random occurrence. If I ever needed something the office on the second floor was great to me. I took a tour with Jaryee Maples and he is definitely the guy you want to ask to show you around! I was new to Chicago and he made me feel immediately welcomed and at ease with his genuine smile and down to earth demeanor, plus I must add he's got a dash (or two or three) of unassuming charisma, style, and acute knowledge of the city. I had toured many other high-rise buildings with agents who seemed rushed and talked a mile a minute just wanting to get their sales pitch out. Jaryee instead took the time to find out exactly what I needed within my price range and let me browse the available options at a pace where I felt I was viewing them with a new friend. On the tour he talked to me about things that actually mattered to me and my lifestyle. He let me know what the scene of people were like that lived there, what amenities and parks were around for my dog, and he mentioned the perfect nearby upscale gym to join with summer pool parties that could help my social and single life in Chicago (although this building already has a beautiful gym...and yes I'm now dating men and making friends from the other place thank you Jaryee)! He went above and beyond by making time for me to come back on the following day to help me take exact measurements of every nook and cranny of the two apartments I loved so that I could be certain that I chose right for my belongings as I debated what furniture I could bring and which closet (or full bedroom) could fit all of my clothing. He intuitively mentioned from his own experience that my dog might like a certain apartment better for a few reasons, and as he said that my pup fell asleep on the floor of that unit and the decision was made. The application process was so easy with approval within a day. I appreciate Jaryee for the remarkable experience he created in finding my new home here! read more

Pros-The area is great, views are amazing, close to amenities, Mariano's and Whole Foods are walking distance. Cons- window side is not insulated. I'm on the 26th floor and can hear the cars all night long driving by. Can hear neighbors when they are outside on the balcony. Something is always broken. The pool has never been heated in the 5+ years I've lived here. The bathrooms in the com floor have been broken for the past few months. The jacuzzi has scum. The management never replies to your emails. You have to send multiple emails before they acknowledge you. I have a serious problem so I tried reaching out to corporate. They are just as unresponsive and helpful as the apartment's office. I would not recommend moving here. read more

If you love parking issues, look no further! On a monthly basis, you'll experience issues with the main entrance of the garage being completely shut down. Then you have about a 50/50 shot of your pass working at the secondary entrance. Additionally the garage is public so there will be a lot of daily parkers. The mobile passes NEVER work as they should. Not even sure the garage is properly set up for them, so expect long delays. I'm absolutely shocked that I have to deal with such frequent issues like this in a "luxury" building. I've been late for work at least a dozen times specifically because of this garage. On the upside, the views are phenomenal (from the north side of the building) and the balconies are huge! Great outdoor space. The finishes on the inside are pretty outdated and lack pretty standard items such as garbage disposals and functioning ventilation fans in bathroom. You can definitely tell they went with the cheapest kitchen cabinets and countertops on the market. The best part of the building is the staff. Door staff and maintenance staff are so helpful and friendly. We look forward to seeing them every day. If it wasn't for the amazing staff, I probably would have only given Coast 1 star. I can't say enough good things about the staff in this building. read more

Do not live here. There are significant safety issues pertaining to the parking garage and access to the building. There have been significant break ins and some car theft in the garage with delayed and weak responses from management. There is very little communication to protect the safety of residents. Further these criminals have open access to the building and the front desk staff do not reliably watch the doors. read more

YOUR CAR WILL BE STOLEN IF YOU MOVE HERE! My girlfriend lives here and in the past 3 months she has had her car stolen, and then broken into twice. Most recently three cars were broken into on the same night and when she talked to one of the other car owners he said it was the second time for him in the garage. Broken car windows are a pretty regular sight in the garage which is ridiculous for a supposedly nice building in downtown. She has asked to be released from her lease as they refuse to change anything such as hiring some security guards to monitor the garage, and she quite frankly does not feel safe. The management have refused to allow her out of her lease. This place is a joke and if you value your property and your safety do not move here. read more

Man oh man, do we have doozie here for ya folks. DISCLAIMER: I thoroughly enjoyed my apartment at Coast, I had a gorgeous view with top notch finishes and I was happy to call it home for 8 months. The concierge staff were always MORE than helpful and always polite, maintenance staff was always helpful as well. Hell even the package room guy would strike up a funny conversation from time to time. Yes, there were consistent water/plumbing issues as other current/former residents have voiced, but this is not about that, so hang on, cause I'm about to take you for a ride. I'd also be happy to speak with anyone directly about this who is thinking about moving here. ___ Circa 2018, sometime in mid-September: Due to reasons irrelevant to this story or the complex itself, I wanted to explore my options for moving out. I was given the option to sub-let (which I didn't do), terminate my lease (pay 5 grand to move out no thanks) or I could "re-let", meaning my unit would be re-listed at a market rate on the Coast website. This was the best option for both parties, I could move out with no financial obligations (which was verified through multiple Coast employees multiple times), and the complex wouldn't be stuck with a vacant unit, win-win right?! So my unit was on the website for about 60 days, and it was the week before Thanksgiving and I get a phone call from Dave, the leasing manager: "Hey Scott, I found someone that is going to be moving into your unit, they'd like to move in as soon as possible, can you move out in a week?". Very short notice, yes, especially since I was going back to Dallas for Thanksgiving. Essentially in 3 days I found a new apartment, scheduled movers, and packed up my entire life to move on an extremely short notice. I turned in my keys, verified everything with Dave, and before I left he said "You'll actually receive a check in the mail for a prorated amount for November since you already paid for the month." Which made sense. I fully move into my new place, all is right in the world. Happy ending right? Negative ghost rider. Less than a week after said "happy ending", I got a voicemail from Dave saying that no one even APPLIED for my unit, much less signed a lease. He then stated that I'd be responsible for the remainder of payments throughout the duration of my lease, blah blah. Needless to say, I was shocked. So many questions running through my head. He said he might have someone else, and that I would be hearing from him soon. Time goes by, and I don't hear anything, so I'm thinking they figured out their screw up and moved on. One month after the voicemail, I get an email from Dave, this time his boss Laura (community manager) is on the chain as well stating "As you can see on the website, your unit is still not leased, please login to your portal for immediate payment". I said I wasn't paying a dime, and did a little research on the website where my unit was no where to be found. So I did another search where I found that my unit WAS available for rent starting on December 9th 2019 (which was a year away obviously, see timestamped photo for reference). I took a picture, sent it, and got a laughable response saying "Oh someone must have entered it wrong". Laura then goes on to say that the unit was actually taken off the market for re-modeling (coincidence? Definitely not, everything in my unit was brand new, or close to it) and that she was only needing December rent. It's clear that they are only trying to get whatever they can out of me at this point. I refuse, tell them that this is their screw up and they need to own it. I never hear from them again.... UNTIL May 2019, where a collection out of NOWHERE pops up on my credit report. I email Laura, saying that it must be some kind of mistake. She said it was not, rather it was for rental concessions granted at the time of move in that I now owed. I mentioned that this was NEVER brought up to me in any way, shape, or form. No response. There was no call, email, no invoice, nothing. They knew this was affecting my future ability to maintain my credit score, and that I would eventually have no choice but to pay. I took care of it. 3 grand down the drain. Unfortunately for Coast, this place has just as bad a reputation today as it did back in 2017, and as someone put it two years ago, "Yelp exists for places like Coast". Perfectly said.
