We arrived at this "establishment" for a "reservation" that was not honored and was advised by staff that they were over capacity and had to wait to be let in, which was fine. We waited patiently and 2 patrons left the location and we asked an employee if it was ok to let 2 of our party in and was advised "yes go ahead". Soon afterwards one of the employees named"Tom" approached and immediately assumed we were "sneaking" our party in. "Tom" got completely unprofessional and belligerent to one of my fellow friends and we decided to take our party of 20 elsewhere that deserved our business. I'm back to issue my yearly review of Coastal Cravings, an anticipated 5 star, slam dunk, suck me off review, but that was not the case this year. Upon receiving our order we realized we only got half of what we ordered and paid for. We went back in to let them know the situation and they said they couldn't make the remaining two orders of fish tacos, we did not receive because the kitchen switched over to "dinner". As my followers know the only reason I go to Coastal Cravings is to consume the best gd fish taco I've ever had. So we left with 2 orders of fish tacos instead of 4 due to an error on their end.....I'm not mad just disappointed. Now just focusing on the actual meals we did receive, despite it not being enough to feed everyone, the fish tacos were once again amazing. Total taste explosion in my mouth that is the perfect combination of flavors still the best tasting fish taco. As for the fries (I bet you thought I wouldn't notice) they are cut thicker then last year so for me this is a down grade. Overall the people inside the restaurant were very apologetic, I'll chalk this up to an unfortunate situation. We will be back again! Don't let this amazing restaurants location fool you! The food is crazy good and they have an awesome menu. Being gluten free usually means you can't eat half the menu, but not at cravings! Gluten free crab cakes and fried calamari?!? So good! We liked this place so much that we decided to order takeout from here a week later and the food was even more delicious the second time around, even as takeout (which usually isn't the case in my experience). I'm sure this place is probably good based on other reviews but my experience was not the best. They were only seating outdoors, which is totally fine, but all of the food was served and brought to us in a bag and takeout containers. I couldn't help but think how wasteful that was. I had ordered the seared scallops and the presentation turned me off and the food was not hot. The sauce came in a cup and it looked like they used an ice cream scoop for my rice. The veggies were way over cooked and mushy...I don't know how that meal was Guy's favorite dish when he featured it on Diners, Drive In's, and Dives. read more

We stopped in Coastal Cravings for breakfast & were extremely impressed. The food was GREAT and all of the employees were very helpful and accommodating to all of our needs. We ordered the Bacon, Egg & cheese and the Three Little Piggies (pulled pork, smoked ham, bacon, and egg.) Also, a Creme Brulé muffin and a specialty Hazelnut coffee and we absolutely loved everything we had. I would most definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the OBX. read more

If you are looking for a spot to satisfy everyone and are concerned about bringing kids out to a restaurant this is the spot to go. Casual environment and good food and zero stress with our group of 12 with children. We ate outside ordered from inside and outside specials and bar drinks. My wife actually has a friend who works here and we are from out of town visiting. We were recommended to come eat here. The inside seating is closed which kinda sucked do to us having a 7 month old. So we sat in a shaded area outside. There were other people there who were chain smoking cigarettes and vape pens so the smell of tobacco was everywhere. Kinda off putting but the place wasn't crowded. We never got menus so I had to google the menu. Keep in mind the waitress was my wife's friend. We finally ordered our food just to be told we couldn't have what we ordered because it was on the dinner menu not the lunch menu so we had to pick something else. I got the chicken wrap and my wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The fires were probably the only thing that had any salt and pepper on the whole meal. The hush puppies we ordered were burnt and dry. We were soaking them in butter to make them better which didn't but to make it edible. My wife and I also sat there with our cups empty for the whole meal. I don't recommend this to place to anyone just bland food and poor service. read more

Came across this gem of a place tucked in next to the gas station in Duck. The atmosphere is great, the Tap Shack was such fun and a great place to hang out, play corn hole, listen to a local band and have a beer while waiting for our table. The problem is the extremely confusing way they have you come into the restaurant through the gas station, order and then wait outside until you think your order is ready and then walk through the drive through to pick it up with the cars in front and back of you in line. Nobody gives you a heads up about your food being ready, you just have to hope your timing is good! We ate at the outside table and enjoyed the surroundings. The atmosphere with the outside bar and live music was fun and we had a beautiful evening sitting outdoors and enjoying live music. We had high hopes for enjoying some wonderful seafood this evening. Hands down, this was the worst meal my husband and I have experienced at a restaurant. I had the broiled Mahi. The Mahi was bland, soggy, and had no flavor at all. The sauteed veggies were soggy and also had no flavor. The baked polenta was the best part of the meal and this is coming from someone who really does not care for anything corn-meal based. Hard to find behind the gas station. But was good sit down and eat. Had the chicken sandwich and the shrimp. Both were good.

We had to wait for 45 minutes to be seated but the outside area is so nice it made the time fly by. The food was delicious as well.

I have always been a fan of the laid back style at Coastal Cravings. They are currently only doing outdoor dining on their patio that has a large covered tent and a stage where they have live music as well as an outdoor bar. They have options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a bar so it is very functional. Don't be wary of the fact that it is attached to a gas station the food is great. While definitely overpriced (most things are at OBX), the seafood is very good and fresh. I would go for lunch to save some money. The crab cakes are 10/10. They have a great cocktail menu and beer on tap selection as well. I am not sure if this is just a covid thing but they give you your food in to go boxes which is somewhat interesting. The only issue I had was that there were tons of flies in the restaurant. Came in a couple years back and it was perfect...so fresh and great quality. I can't BELIEVE the change in the quality of food after visiting today. The prices are a little high in general (Not that it bothered us, assuming we'd be coming in to the same quality we were used to) but I cannot believe how terrible things were today. We were driving through the outer banks and found very few places open in early march but luckily for us, cravings was open. This tiny restaurant behind a gas station and connected to a small market is the perfect place for a crab cake burger. The crab cake is a well seasoned, pure crab meat cake that is lightly fried. read more
