Pass Pass Pass....... There is something better out there for you. The coleslaw was awful! My husband loves coleslaw and he couldn't eat it. The fish burrito was not good I asked if I could get a crab cake on the side, but I asked the waitress how much it would be. She never told me, just brought it to the table. $18!!!! Every time I've come to Fishbones I've had a great experience. Staff are friendly and accommodating (especially important when you're rolling 7 people deep plus kids), the menu has something for everyone (pro tip: my friend's kids say these are the best chicken fingers in the Outer Banks). The menu has plenty of seafood options but dishes for the landlubbers too. They have a full bar here and make a strong Painkiller. Atmosphere is pretty casual with lots of seating options. This place can accommodate strollers if you're coming with little kids, and they offer high chairs for anyone who needs one. I've had oysters here which have always been fresh. Our family went here for dinner this past week for an early dinner as we wanted to try somewhere in Duck. The restaurant was clean and ordinary. The hostess/waitresses were very attentive and went above and beyond to provide excellent service. I wish I remembered her name, but she even went as far as having the kids orders placed early so they could get a head start on their meals. The Philly cheese steak fries and chicken nachos were delicious. The only thing I would change with the Philly fries is more cheese. read more

Fishbones is a necessary stop when shopping and lounging in Duck!! We are down in Nags Head, but cruised up to Duck for lunch and shopping. Our waitress was super nice and attentive! Fresh catch was Mahi and Tuna, so we got a Tuna Burrito and Tuna Steak, both delicious! Started with a half dozen yummy raw oysters! if I could rate this at 0 I would. we waited 30 minutes just to talk to a host and then when we finally got sat it took about 1 hour to get drink and another hour and a half to get food. was terrible service and had a very very annoying dog barking the entire time we where here. would not recommend at all!!! read more

We visit the OBX pretty much every year and we have come to Fishbones the last few years. This year was probably the best. We had four adults and two kids and required 2 high chairs. The staff sat us right where I requested and was very accommodating to our needs. The kids were rambunctious as expected but our waiter interacted with them at times and all was great. The food was exceptional. My oysters on the half shell were dynamite as was my Hatteras burger. My wife got the crab cake sandwich and said it was delicious. Everyone else raved about their appetizers (Philly Cheesesteak Eggroll) and entrees. The food and drinks were on point, and the young man who waited on us was exceptional. We stopped in for lunch while out doing some shopping in Duck. I wasn't too sure about the raw bar option since I'm vegan but they had some vegan options which made me very happy. You could get the truffle fries without cheese and the burgers as Impossible Meat. We (Dad, brother and I) sat at the bar and all three of us had beer. Two had the Amber ale (very good) and one an IPA. Not an IPA person so can't speak to it though Dad said it was good. All the burgers can be made with the impossible burger which I chose. You can have them made pretty much anyway you want so I had mine with no cheese, the Hatteras Burger, and it was great. I had my burger with the Tabasco Onion Rings and they were probably the best part of the meal. Thin, crispy, and delicious. Definitely get those rings if you can! Overall a good lunch with my feedback being that it was very dark inside and the time it took to get our food. Way longer than it should have taken to get a burger, onion rings, and two salads, even with the lunch crowd. read more

Although the service was fairly good, the food was all mediocre at best. It came pretty quickly but our dozen raw oysters came with two empty shells. The crab dip and calamari were okay but we've definitely had better. I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before we went and I would have seen it wasn't rated very highly. Personally I prefer my food cooked--and I am pleasantly content to report that the name of this restaurant does in fact not exclusively describe the menu. Located among the popular shoppes' of Duck, North Carolina 27949, "Fishbones... etc" is a perfect lunch spot (and drink spot) during a soiree on a sunny afternoon. The food is good, but not great, and for a place that seems to function primarily as a bar thats about as much as you can ask for. My real issue is the price. We didn't get there until 8:15ish. I think they close at 9:00 even though their hours say 10:00. As we were eating they were wiping down tables and cleaning up, andddd we were the only table there. The food came out hot and delicious. I think we got lucky considering the reviews on here are pretty bad. The service was okay, they all seemed like they were ready to go. The drinks were delicious with creative beach appropriate cocktail combinations. The Lunar Thai and Duck Hunter are top picks. I went with the ribeye, which was prepared medium rare as requested. My husband got the seafood Mac and cheese, which was delicious with a generous amount of seafood in it. My kids got the kids pasta and a burger from the main menu. It's weird that there is spaghetti on the kids menu but no burger. There's a burger available elsewhere on the menu. The problem is it's a half pound burger, which is insane to serve a kindergartener. He ate about a fourth of it. The servers were friendly. The space is very long and a bit tight, but they do a nice job making the most of the space. The aesthetic is seaside minimalism which I think was a good choice for a tight space. read more

This restaurant in Duck had a shorter wait than others along the boardwalk but that still was a fair wait. The restaurant was light staffed so the hostess was floating across other stations and often not at the front. The four of us were seated in a six person table - but one of the seats was dripping from the air conditioning above, hence the waitress suggested to leave that seat open. We ordered raw oysters as appetizers - delicious but tiny. The kids' meals were pretty good value, but there were a lot of French fries compared to everything else in the basket. As for us, we ordered a delicious clam chowder and a large assorted seafood platter. Overall, the food came out as I expected, but it didn't blow me away. read more

The food was good. Clam chowder was the best meal. The service is awful. One person never got their meal after 45 minutes. It was a fish BLT. We even told the Manager. We asked them to take the cost off but then wouldn't give us the meal (to go). We had to go because we waited so long. I have been coming here for years, unfortunately, for as great as the food is, as excellent the wait staff is. Something has been bothering me for a week. Our server and the kitchen were miscommunicated, and we were overcharged for a meal item. Rather than fixing it, the assistant manager boldly stated that because a mistake happened, the server had to pay for the error out of her pocket. I could see the defeat on the server's face, and we went to the manager who made it right. Still, earlier this summer servers told us that the managers love up upcharge people because no one looks at the bill. read more

Delicious food - mediocre ambiance - average service Walked in around 6:30 pm on a Saturday night, and despite having a few empty tables was told it would be an hour wait for 3 people ( 2 adults and 1 toddler). We ended up putting our name in anyway, while we looked into what other restaurants were in the area and the host came out not 5 minutes later saying they "found" a table. The restaurant is the size of a postage stamp, and no one had recently walked out, there is no way they just happened upon an empty table. Shady. Once inside it was clear they were putting all the parties with kids in the back corner. We were seated at a small table in the back next to a large group with several young kids. Small table, in the back, next to a large electrical outlet and several things plugged into it, right next to the bathroom. You could say it was less than ideal. However, for the most part, the food was pretty good. We had the cheesesteak eggrolls, which come with queso for a $2 up-charge. Delicious but ridiculous. Just serve with the cheese as a default. I ordered the tuna bowl which was a nice amount of spicy and the tuna was cooked perfectly. My partner ordered one of the specials which was scallops, shrimp, crab cake, and fish special with fries. The scallops were overcooked, and everything came with the same seasoning which was a bit too one-note. The fries were crispy and delicious and the crab cake was good as well. Kids mac and cheese was not terrible. Probably would not go back with young kids. Might just be more of a bar and adult environment. Maybe if you aren't going to be that great with kids don't have a kids menu. read more
