In general, I like Coastal and shop there often. However, one thing that is very annoying. I cannot tell you the last time that I called seeking info from a specific department and an employee actually took the call. Once you get transferred to the department you listen to elevator music forever until you give up and disconnect. Doesn't help to call back as you get the same result!!!!!!!!!!!!! This used to be a really good farm and country store in general. This store almost carried everything you needed to run a farm and cloth the people that still believe in hard work and country leaving. They also used to carry most things for your livestock as well. Plus they carried a decent selection of tools and hunting/fishing supplies. The Coastal in White City has fallen apart in the past year and a half, they no longer keep anything in stock, can't keep the shelves stocked. The simplest things like their pegboard that shows what kind of fencing supplies they have is always empty, yet you look outside and they're fully stocked, but you'd never know it, the whole store is run this way. It's also really sad that the ranch side of the store is disappearing and it's becoming more of a clothing store. The Store has some great employees and some employees that need better training. But it seems the newer store owners just don't care what happens to this store. Some of yor great employees are people like Jake and Peyton, the older gentleman that's a loader in the wharehouse is a good guy a I salute him for being a vet. The guys at the gun counter are good people too, to name a few. You guys need to fix your store or we we need to build a Wilco here, that's a country/ Farm store. read more

The store has great selection, but we came all the way from Grants Pass and saw they had a 25% off sale and grabbed a couple things for Christmas presents. We checked out at 3:54 PM and the cashier didn't let us know that the sale didn't start until 4 o'clock, six minutes later! When we saw the receipt and mentioned the price, she said she couldn't return the items to give us the discount. 6 minutes, people! Their return policy is also SO short and strict, they probably don't even have an employee that would know how to do a return, since they don't script them. This place is huge! A farm store, they have many items for urban and rural dwellers alike. I walked in and was amazed at the selection of clothing and footwear. From Western shirts and pants to boots of all kinds, and cowboy type hats, there is a wide selection to choose from. Whether you are looking for workwear for the ranch or something nice to wear for a night on the town, this store has it all. I was curious to see what they offered, but time was limited during my holiday season visit. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, not hardly enough time to give this business a thorough look over. I intend to check back again. We have shopped here at the White City location about 6 times now and most times any other employee on the floor except for the ladies running the registers are unfriendly, unhelpful and sometimes just rude. Do you train your employees to not greet a customer either when they enter or when they just walk by? If I were that unhappy I would go find another job outside of customer service. The short and loud male employee working today on July 4th needs to learn how not to speak to a customer that is trying to locate something since there are no signs on the aisles. Worst purchasing experience, I have EVER had. Two employees lied to their boss with the encounter with me. And the "big" boss spoke rudely and talked down to me. First, I waited 20 mins to get help to buy a 400.00 weed trimmer. Was not offered any information regarding running the unit. Just told to take it to the register and pick it up in the drive thru. Went to the drive thru and the guy said it wasn't ready because the "guy" was having a hard time getting it to start and run. I went into the repair shop, and it was running, shaking and smoking from too rich fuel. I should have cancelled the purchase then. The next day was a nightmare. I went to take it back because it wouldn't start or run. Yes, I read the short instructions and watched a video the day before. They wouldn't take it back or exchange it. This is a "Good ole boys" store. I should have gone to Dazy Hardware. They spend time with you and make sure (man or women) you know what you're getting and how it works and if it works. Generally I love Coastal Farm and Ranch and go there all the time. Today, I went and two gently were sitting by the front door "You have to wear a mask" I said I have one and put it on. I bought a new dog harness 2/5/21. When I got it home and started adjusting the size down for my puppy I noticed tears on the webbing. Today I went in to exchange it, receipt in hand tags still on it. I was told by cashier Megan that her manager Dave said if this one didn't work out I was stuck with it. I told her that I wanted a refund instead and she told me that wasn't an option. I've been a customer there for years and told her it was totally unacceptable and I'd be taking my business elsewhere. Her insinuations and rudeness were way out of line. My dog is a white Pyrenees, if she'd have had it on for 10 seconds it would have been covered in white dog hair,it was pristine. I always shop here over Grange Co-op for feed, etc. went in with my daughter the other day. Bought a truckload of cattle panels, feed, and some miscellaneous items. My daughter wanted tin snips but we couldn't find any. A young man saw us searching, immediately asked what we were looking for. He didn't think they carry them, which we kind of expected. But just as we were in line to check out, TA-DA! He and another employee appeared with tin snips! We had forgotten about them but the employees had not. This is typical of all my experience there. Employees go above and beyond to help. Everyone is always very friendly and helpful. Contrast that with Grange Co-Op, where they don't carry much of what I actually need (lots of kitschy stuff but a lot less useful stuff) and the employees either disappear, can't answer questions, brush you off, or act like you're trying to steal stuff, I have never had a bad experience at Coastal. I even believe that the chicks are healthier than Grange. read more

We bought fencing and when my husband drove to where they put the stuff you bought in the car for you, the guy was kind of really rude to my husband and arguing over the price that we paid versus the price that he saw. It ends up that the the guy outside who puts the stuff in your truck for you was a butthead. I was sitting in my husband's f-150, which I never have driven in my life and this man came out yelling at me telling me that I had to move right away. I said I don't know how to drive this truck it's too big for me. And I continue to argue thank goodness my husband showed up. I will make sure we buy from somewhere else next time. Places an online order for a roll of fencing, drove 40 minutes one way, after I received an email from Coastal, saying my order was ready for pickup, got there, waited around for 35 minutes for them to find my order, they never could find it. Had to go into the store, and wait at the checkout line to get my money back. Then had to drive back 40 min to home. 2 1/2 hours wasted, $30 in fuel, and still don't have what I need to get my project done. read more

Love the store and the employees, however, when i was being helped by a very helpful elderly employee, and the head of her department got frustrated over her trying to help us, and said she was "spending too much time on us" and that we "didn't need her help". I noticed her hostile attitude as soon as i entered her department, it was very rude of her talk down on an elderly woman and it isn't the first time i've noticed Michelle's bad attitude. Over the weekend we were in the single line to check out which had at least 12 people behind us! Given our long wait I put back some "impluse" items. We suggested the cashier call for some help but she said they didn't have anyone and she was it. Not even an apology or attempt to help customers. This store lost money due to poor customer service. We had to exchange fencing materials today at Coastal. The cashiers was wonderful, handled the exchange without a problem. The man in the yard who loaded the materials we purchased, Troy, was great. So helpful and nice. However while in the store a sales associate was rude and unprofessional. I asked for help as he was walking by, he looked at me, stopped and turned around to hurry off. Coastal (Big R) has been out go-to place for farm-related stuff for the last 9 years. We've never experienced rude or unhelpful customer service. It can take awhile to find floor help when they're really busy, but they've never seemed put out to help us. We've occasionally found one who's having a rough day, but never outright rude. I particularly appreciate their wide selection of clothing and incredible variety of shoes and boots. We bought a chicken coop a year or so ago. They had the one we wanted on display out front. I asked if it came assembled. The sales clerk said it does. When it arrived we were surprised to find it came un-assembled. We put it together, it went very well. The next time in I was in told the manager the situation. He apologized, said he'd make sure the staff informed purchasers it comes as a kit, and gladly (and rightly) gave us a $100 store credit. A side note: if you buy a wood coop kit, keep it dry until assembly time. The exposed wood ends can swell slightly making for tight fits and extra effort. Another time I was in for a pair of Levis. It took four tries to find the right style and fit. There were two clothing persons there, one in training. They were both quite happy to work with me as long as it takes! I took my Craftsman 4-stroke leaf blower there for repair (Sears requires you to take the unit to Phoenix to a private repair shop there!). The repair was done quickly and priced reasonably. The mechanic recommended using ethanol-free gas to preclude my frequent carburetor problems. I wish I remembered his name. He has always done the work well and taken the time to inform and advised me. Would I recommend the store to others? You bet. I have. read more

I was in to purchase a BBQ and was greeted nicely and assisted by an individual who was very knowledgeable. Problem was in pick in the rear. I get a younger person who brings out my very expensive BBQ and he helped load it. Then i asked for my receipt and he forgot it in the back of the warehouse. Then i asked him to get it and i get shaking of the head and attitude. Instead of getting it he begins to help someone else load a pallet load of stuff. When i asked him again i got more attitude on not a word. Next problem was with the manager who dismissed the complaint as he is young. I will struggle to ever return to this store. read more

Okay, when this incident first occurred I was much more upset than I am now. Now I think it's kind of funny that a retailer is cool with having poor customer service all the way mup the chain. I will have to say that the cashiers are way better than mup the chain. We went in to buy a wood stove. We were greeted by friendly cashiers up front. They called for the wood stove person to come up and that person never came. So the awesome young cashier did her best to look things up on the computer and help us. Then after 15 min the assistant manager and wood stove department person came to help us and behaved as if we bothering him. He was immediately rude. He was obviously annoyed, condescending , looked like he had a rough night, was disheveled, not helpful and discourteous. We get it sometimes things are not good so take the day off or get someone to cover for you if your busy or something. He would not ask us what we needed and just kept saying negative stuff and each answer was snarkier the one before. I don't know if we interrupted his lunch or he just is like that all of the time. He was being so awful I just looked at my husband and asked him if he was okay leaving right then and he was. I think the part that makes me the most crazy is that I called to follow up with store manager. Who I did not realize was standing next to this guy when he was talking to us like that. To say he was the most apathetic manager ever is to say the least. He said he was upset about it after I told him his answer of "okay" was surprising. He appeared to be uninterested when telling him the story. The manger said "he did seem like he was in a hurry". We explained we were planning on buying a wood stove and we are not going to buy the stove if we could not get helpful info and spend $3,000 -$5,000. It seems the sales man was acting as if he could care less about is job, sales and treatment of customers. The manager seemed like he kind of didn't care either and could not wait until the day was over. He did not offer us anything like you can meet with other sales associate or I will sell you the wood stove so you don't have deal with him. Nothing. He feigned being concerned and said he would talk to him, but he had been standing there the whole time while his sales person/ assistant manager was disrespecting customers for wanting to know more about the wood stoves and just let it happen. So he has his own issues and can not be expected to manage much. This is not the first problem with customer service we have had here. We just thought before the person was having a bad day and let it go. We will not go back there for big purchases since their customer service was horrible and apathetic and will try to never go back if we can help it. read more

We are very unhappy with our Coastal experience. When the store was still Big R, about 8 years ago, we bought an expensive Quadrafire wood insert. The blower lasted about 5 years. The replacement blower cost about $250 and only lasted 3 years. When we contacted Coastal in February 2018 for a replacement, the new blower was over $500. So the quality as decreased considerably and the price has doubled! We feel the blower is very poor quality to last such a short time at a very high cost. The store management was totally unwilling to work with us on the cost or make any adjustments. The customer service was terrible although a couple employees did try to help. They were unwilling to connect us to Quadrafire or work through the manufacturer for any resolution. When we contacted Quadrafire directly, they were also completely uncooperative with poor customer service. We do not recommend Coastal or Quadrafire and wish we had known this before we bought and we would have surely purchased another brand insert from another store! read more
