Our server checked on us constantly and made sure we had everything we needed. Because our party was so large, we sat at two tables across from each other. But we never felt neglected/forgotten. The food is pretty good - the lobster salad is one of my favorites and drunken ribeye is great too. I've been going to the Great American restaurants (which Coastal Flats is a part of) for quite awhile as I live in the DMV area and it's always been a safe bet for good food and a good experience. The most recent time at Coastal Flats inside of Tysons Corner mall left a bad taste in my mouth. First off, the community bread basket is no longer free and costs $1. Also the prices of the menu items have increased -- a lot. I ordered the ahi tuna salad that costs $27 and it came with 4 small pieces of the ahi tuna. It was not worth the price. I also ordered the crab and shrimp fritters which were the only highlight of the meal. The service was friendly but rushed. My friend was still finishing up his last pieces of sweet potato fries and a waiter came by and assumed he was done and just took his plate away. And the same waiter came back and put our check on the table when I was still not halfway done with my salad. We felt rushed to finish up and pay. I came in for dinner on Friday night and I was able to get in immediately. The server explained all the specials and what everything is on market price. Hate posting this but Costal is one of my favorite places to eat. That is until they tried making crab cakes - I'm begging please stop that's the worst crab cake I've ever tasted. Great service from the Wesley really good guy hope he makes his singing dreams come true. Management needs help So they had flies and one landed on my filler filed crab-cake so I simply asked for a replacement at it was barely touched, originally it took 35 mins to get the original the replacement took 5.8 mins so I was pretty sure that fly was In it so I passed it on to the trash. Their deviled eggs were made perfectly with great flavor...accompanied by the candied bacon. The crab cake was even better than the ones at Mikes with almost 95% lump Crab meat. I ordered the fish and chips -- huge mistake. The fish was soggy on the outside, dry on the inside, and somehow managed to taste both burnt and raw. Each bite felt like Poseidon himself was attacking me for daring to eat it. The fries were cold and lifeless, like they'd been sitting out since lunch. I think my server Mike did his best (and I still tipped because I'm no monster and it's a hard gig) but my service was def 10/10 when I sat at a booth. First time: I ordered the crab fritters which were just ok, the sauce they came with was under seasoned (to me) but the consistency of the fritters were nice. Ozzie rolls - just get them, don't think about it just do it. Fish sticks for the kids - the best crunch you could imagine on a kids fish stick. It was perfection, my daughter (5) went on and on about the crunch and they held up well in the air fryer the next day. Served with what I'm assuming is a homemade tarter that had great texture and flavor. They were served with shoestring fries but you have the option of apple sauce. Today the kids got the fish sticks again and I went with a bacon cheeseburger and fries. My burger was seasoned well and cooked exactly how I ordered (medium). Seated 15 minutes past our reservation time last night. Should have left because it got worse after that. Wife and I ordered an appetizer and two entrees. My entree included a salad. 15 minutes later the salad arrives. No appetizer? Flagged down the server, she said she would check on it. 10 minutes later the appetizer arrives! 2 minutes after that, the entrees arrives, delivered by the restaurant manager. I asked the manager why all of food comes out at the same time? He apologizes and states he would comp our dinner. I told him not to worry about it. Both entrees are cold! My wife took one bite of food and was done, can not eat cold fish! We asked for a box to take her food home and the check. We were told by our server that meal was comped. Our server was pleasant and quickly refilled our drink when asked, I did not blame her for the kitchen issues And I stated that to her. Left her a $30 tip. I have dined at most of the American restaurant group locations over the many years, Arties, Silverado's, Mike's and Carlye grand cafe. Always excellent food and even better service. We used to say Coastal Flats (Tysons) was the most reliable places to eat with the family. The last 2-3 visits the service was well below average (wait staff not attentive, food coming out randomly, food quality unchecked, dessert completely melted, no clearing tables, dishes stacking up, chasing down help, no follow up with condiment requests, and lackluster slow food delivery). This used to be a go to and now has fallen off to a 'only if nothing else is open'. Management is weak in Tyson's it really does show in everything that you once thought was stellar, when it is now very below average. The food is a miss though, for what the prices will run you. Kudos to the kitchen in smartly putting in enough shredded greens into their lobster roll, and placing the morsel of lobster atop the roll - doing so gives the illusion of a great roll. This restaurant has always been accommodating to those that have had bariatric surgery, allowing customers to order child sized portions, but this time, I was informed that they would not be doing this. I understand that restaurants have issues with people ordering child sized meals for the price, but when you explain and have a medical card stating that you can't eat normal size portions, it is very disheartening that exceptions can't be made (depending on the day and who the manager is on duty). While I love this restaurant, I will not be returning any more, as they have lost my business. read more
