I'm a SUPER regular at the other Coastal Flats, but I realize I haven't reviewed this one. I had the salmon, it was amazing, as usual. Their management practices should be studied. I've never seen a chain this consistent in serving excellence. Today, I made the unfortunate choice to come in during the Christmas rush, and Tysons was slammed as I've never seen it. This place is in tysons mall and always a favorite to come to eat when I am there. The service is great and the decorations inside is also pretty cool. The food is pretty good - the lobster salad is one of my favorites and drunken ribeye is great too. I've been going to the Great American restaurants (which Coastal Flats is a part of) for quite awhile as I live in the DMV area and it's always been a safe bet for good food and a good experience. The most recent time at Coastal Flats inside of Tysons Corner mall left a bad taste in my mouth. First off, the community bread basket is no longer free and costs $1. Also the prices of the menu items have increased -- a lot. I ordered the ahi tuna salad that costs $27 and it came with 4 small pieces of the ahi tuna. It was not worth the price. I also ordered the crab and shrimp fritters which were the only highlight of the meal. The service was friendly but rushed. My friend was still finishing up his last pieces of sweet potato fries and a waiter came by and assumed he was done and just took his plate away. And the same waiter came back and put our check on the table when I was still not halfway done with my salad. We felt rushed to finish up and pay. My cousin and her family took my husband and me here to celebrate the closing of our house. We had not been here before and the food was AMAZING! The service was top notch! Our server checked on us constantly and made sure we had everything we needed. Because our party was so large, we sat at two tables across from each other. But we never felt neglected/forgotten. My wife and I each enjoyed cocktails--I had the raspberry martini, and she chose the mango martini. They were so delicious that I couldn't resist ordering a second! For lunch, we both opted for salads. My wife had the blackened salmon salad, which was perfectly seasoned with great accompaniments, including a unique twist with goat cheese that really elevated the dish. Hate posting this but Costal is one of my favorite places to eat. That is until they tried making crab cakes - I'm begging please stop that's the worst crab cake I've ever tasted. Great service from the Wesley really good guy hope he makes his singing dreams come true. Management needs help So they had flies and one landed on my filler filed crab-cake so I simply asked for a replacement at it was barely touched, originally it took 35 mins to get the original the replacement took 5.8 mins so I was pretty sure that fly was In it so I passed it on to the trash. Thank goodness for Cheesecake theirs is still decent. Love Costal but they need to get this off the menu it's insulting for sure read more

Their deviled eggs were made perfectly with great flavor...accompanied by the candied bacon. The crab cake was even better than the ones at Mikes with almost 95% lump Crab meat. The Ozzie rolls.....so much for unbigging my back before summer. I came here twice in the last month. On 4/16 after the Dr. Seuss experience and today 4/30 after Candytopia. Both times the service and food was great. I saw signs at Tysons that they're bringing a CAMP here so I know I'll be back and it's good to know there's a solid food option for me and the babes. Went around 1130-12 both times, once was seated in a booth as we walked in, today there was a 30min wait so we sat in the bar area. I think my server Mike did his best (and I still tipped because I'm no monster and it's a hard gig) but my service was def 10/10 when I sat at a booth. First time: I ordered the crab fritters which were just ok, the sauce they came with was under seasoned (to me) but the consistency of the fritters were nice. Ozzie rolls - just get them, don't think about it just do it. Fish sticks for the kids - the best crunch you could imagine on a kids fish stick. It was perfection, my daughter (5) went on and on about the crunch and they held up well in the air fryer the next day. Served with what I'm assuming is a homemade tarter that had great texture and flavor. They were served with shoestring fries but you have the option of apple sauce. Today the kids got the fish sticks again and I went with a bacon cheeseburger and fries. My burger was seasoned well and cooked exactly how I ordered (medium). The sauce paired well with the saltiness of the bacon and cheese without drowning out the flavor. Lots of items here to choose from and priced very well so I'll def be back. read more

I ordered the fish and chips -- huge mistake. The fish was soggy on the outside, dry on the inside, and somehow managed to taste both burnt and raw. Each bite felt like Poseidon himself was attacking me for daring to eat it. The fries were cold and lifeless, like they'd been sitting out since lunch. We used to say Coastal Flats (Tysons) was the most reliable places to eat with the family. The last 2-3 visits the service was well below average (wait staff not attentive, food coming out randomly, food quality unchecked, dessert completely melted, no clearing tables, dishes stacking up, chasing down help, no follow up with condiment requests, and lackluster slow food delivery). This used to be a go to and now has fallen off to a 'only if nothing else is open'. Management is weak in Tyson's it really does show in everything that you once thought was stellar, when it is now very below average. Really contemplated between three or four. Wasn't bad at all. Food has good flavor but everything was lacking just a bit. The grit cake had almost no sauce which was delicious. The fries cost extra and for the price it barely came with any at all. Overall pretty satisfactory. For Christmas it was beautifully decorated and the service was wonderful. We were also in a rush and the service and timing of the dishes, bill, and everything in between was perfect. Lobster bisque was too creamy for me. The red snapper was the dish of the week for $34 bit overly priced was delicious. The risotto sauce was good but too salty. The $1 bread not pictured is freshly fried to order. All in all, in terms of ambiance, this is a generally nice place to meet for drinks or a quiet date night dinner, as the place is dimly lit just enough to be able to tolerate seeing your significant other. The food is a miss though, for what the prices will run you. Kudos to the kitchen in smartly putting in enough shredded greens into their lobster roll, and placing the morsel of lobster atop the roll - doing so gives the illusion of a great roll.
