Seafood scramble 7/10... steak and eggs (7.5/10) and chicken and waffles 7/10. I would recommend smaller portions. For a quick hearty lunch, my coworkers decided on Matchbox (courtesy of our Rep paying, thank you so much). I ordered the crab soup + the crab and shrimp fettucine... yes I really wanted crab! The crab and shrimp fettucine fell short by just a tad since it tasted pretty bland... Though, the pasta was cooked al dente and the crab meat was good. The crab soup was phenomenal to eat hot and tasted even better when I dipped the crab fettucine in it. (Dont knock it til you try it)! We ordered for pick up so I cant say much about the service; when we walked in, there was no one at the host stand or any servers on the floor, just one bartender shining glasses. There was one staff member I do want to shout out, wish I caught his name but he called out to us after we had left and gave us the salad dressings that they forgot to include. As for interior, it definitely has a different vibe to it than the Merrifield location that I have been to. We brought our chicken sliders and wings inside and copped a spot on the far end of the restaurant. There were quite a few people already here and it wasn't even 6pm yet. I thought this was a great sports bar and there are not too many like this in the McLean area. We each went thru 3 Coronas a piece, and the chicken that we ordered was mad good. Friendly alert: choosing the bottomless brunch option means taking any leftovers home is strictly forbidden. I looked at the menu closely, and didn't see this indicated anywhere, nor did the waitress mention it when she advised that everyone at the table would have to choose the unlimited option for anyone to. So when we ended up with a little extra food due mainly to both the wrong and right brunch entrees being delivered, and asked for a couple to-go boxes, after the waitress said no, the frazzled host guy sternly rushed over to our table to disclose this policy, and some food got wasted. I understand and respect the rule, but Matchbox really needs to include it in a little box on the menu, or at least tell customers upfront, so that the desired cost-control result is achieved. Other than that, we were happy campers with the $44 adult/ $14 bottomless brunch offerings. The Buffalo wings were great, the cinnamon roll was big but bland, a cocktail took 20 minutes to come, and everything else was tasty. Still four stars because it was Father's Day and staff gave 100% to keeping up with all the customers. We look forward to returning. read more

We loved the old location, so made a reservation when this new location opened. Sadly, it was just awful. Starting from the atmosphere, to the bar, to the table (located at the kitchen entrance, with waiters wizzing by every few mins). We moved to a booth. There were solid seams in the booth that made them very uncomfortable. The brand new table was wiggly, spilling our drinks every time weight was put on them. The servers were fake, and continued to speak in a foreign language in front of the guests, hang out with their friends at another table, instead of focusing on paying customers. The new rolls and butter are cheap alternatives for the old Italian bread with olive oil. No salt, pepper, oil or parmesan cheese on the tables any more. Food was the same, but much more expensive, 80$ for two salads! There is an echo in the dinning area that makes the music annoying, not just background noise. The environment felt sterile & fake. Last, the rest rooms, brand new, yet the doors are already loose on their hinges, and wont close easily. Such a huge disappointment for us, as this place was a regular spot for us for decades. We had been waiting for the new location to open for a while now. We wont be coming back. read more

Went for a happy hour.. food was delicious but the service was horrible. It took the waitress 15 minutes to come back to get drink orders and then just immediately took food orders as well. Then the food came out way before our drinks. She never came back to see if we wanted any more drinks just asked if we wanted more water at the end of our visit nothing for 1 hour! I would describe Matchbox as a solid choice, if you live in Tysons/McLean area, and you're pressed for time. The menu is Modern American, with options for brick oven pizza -- it has just enough of a variety that everyone should be able to choose something that appeals to them. The space is quite open and I love the fact that the majority of the seating are set up as booths. Side note: I wish more restaurants could be set up this way, it gets you out of the way of the servers and wait staff going up and down the aisles. -- [I realize for restaurants with smaller footprint, it's impractical, as booths take up more space] We came in at 6:30, and we were able to get a table easily, but the restaurant was filling up soon after. We got the Garden Veggie pizza, it said it had roasted vegetables, and the Herb Crusted Salmon Salad - both were quite good. We finished off with one of their dessert items - Donuts. I wish I could have taken a photo of this fried bit of deliciousness, but sadly we attacked it too quickly for me to take a decent photo. In lieu of a photo, let me describe it to you: It wasn't quite a beignet, but it wasn't just some donut either. It was something in between dusted with powdered sugar and it came with a side of two different sauces: chocolate and raspberry. The service was fine, but I think our server was somewhat new (??) -- she seemed somewhat unfamiliar with the menu, when we had questions and taking our order, I think our entire table lowered our expectations slightly to account for possible hiccups with our order. After digging in I realized the food was probably sitting for a bit before the server got the food to us because everything was lukewarm. Ate it anyway. Water glass wasn't refilled even though I placed it by the aisle and the manager walked by several times and saw it was empty. Lots of improvement needed if they want reoccurring business/to survive because this restaurant is kind of off the beaten path with limited foot traffic in downtown McLean which is normally deserted during the summer with people on vacation. read more

This is my second time coming to Matchbox. It was definitely improved over the last time I visited one of their locations. We stopped in for a little brunch this past Saturday. They updated the menu to have a couple of new items and for it to have a new updated look which was nice. To start, the food was good but some of it is better than others. The cinnamon rolls were not good. They were a bit hard and not even warm. There wasn't much icing on them so they're a definite pass in my opinion. The brunch pizza was good but not great. A couple of slices didn't seem to have much sauce while others had much more sauce. The slices with more sauce tasted better with all the toppings. The star of the meal was the hangover burrito. My girlfriend and I both loved it! It had so much flavor and was filled with a lot of ingredients. It was served with rice and beans as well. The food was definitely filling. The ambiance is pretty standard for any chain restaurant these days. It's open and casual to feel more inviting. It's one of the newer locations so it's definitely more updated and modern. There wasn't much to brag about here though. They do have patio seating from what one of the signs said. The service was good. Our waitress was kind and always made sure we had refills and food was out quickly. I wouldn't say she went above and beyond but it could be that they're still finding their groove since it's a newer location. I'd say it's worth a stop here. They have a parking lot out front which is nice. This is the best Matchbox location that either me or my girlfriend have been to. If they work out some of the bumps they have, then I'm sure they'll be a great restaurant in the near future. read more

Decent! I don't think it's the most amazing food ever, but there are a lot of options, and most of it is decent. I tried the veggie pizza, which was good but I wish they noted what was in the "medley" in case there is something you don't like (olives for me). I tried the fried chicken fingers, which were good but there was too much of the fry part. I also would have liked to see more sauces. For dessert, I tried the donuts and the brownie, both of which were fine, but nothing to write home about. The ambiance and service are nice, and it's very family friendly. Note this location is called "Matchbox Prime", so they have 16oz ribeye and 16oz NY strip etc. My family had no reservations anywhere and wanted to get dinner last minute - so we stayed local in McLean and we were impressed by everything we ordered. Arancini balls were crispy and the inside actually had texture, crispy chicken Cobb salad was huge and tasty. Fig and prosciutto pizza had just the right amount of blue cheese. The beef was cooked well and had good flavor. Our server was kind and attentive; I kind of got the sense that they're truly making an effort to improve service (I just read some reviews from 1 year ago). Some screaming kids didn't help the ambiance but can't really control that for a local solid spot. read more

I was invited to the ribbon cutting. The event was well attended and everyone was friendly. The service was attentive. They provided passed risotto balls, mini crab cakes with arugula, a spicy mini tuna taco, and warm brownies. All were excellent. The risotto balls were crispy on the outside and cheesy in the middle. It was a little precarious serving it in a paper plate and eating it standing. The crab cake was equally delicious and served with fresh arugula. The taco had a great crunch and spice kick but was pretty small. The brownie was warm with a slice of strawberry. The pro was that I got the last parking space! (There is plenty of parking but this was a well-attended event). Also, I got to try four things I never ordered there before (I've eaten at the Matchbox downtown and the one in Pentagon City). They also served Prosecco. The con was they did not offer pizza. I was thinking about it all day! I like their pizza. Oh well. I could have ordered one but wasn't hungry enough. My boyfriend and tried visited the new location. We had an amazing experience our server was Bryon and he had an amazing personality and made us feel welcomed. We tried HH drinks and they were refreshing, they are not top tier cocktails, but fair considering the price. The location is brand new, clean and updated. The best part was the food, my bf is a harsh critique but he was highly satisfied. To start we ordered the spinach dip and pork chop apps which we were served quickly and the perfect temperature. For dinner we order chicken Alfredo and the Red Snapper. I would absolute recommend that everyone tries the Red Snapper, my absolute favorite part was the zucchini/carrots/squash side it is served with. Great parking, great building, and beautiful decor. Cons: I would recommend alcoholic beverages delivered quicker, and more water service. Which could have easily been due to the fact that they are brand new, so the will naturally improve. However, I would recommend prebussing. Servers and managers walked by the plates we set on the edge of the table. And no one even acknowledged it, no table visits or checking in from anyone aside from our server. Which is odd considering it is a new opening, shouldn't management make an effort to check-in with all guests? Overall, we highly recommend! Martini I ordered was a Bombay sapphire very dry with three olives. They charged separately for the booze and then the martini. It ended up being $17. I thought the way they billed it was odd. The pizza - their speciality - was meh at best. We (two people) had a drink each, an entree each, and the brussel sprouts. Our bill came out to 87.00, and with tip the total was 100.00 bucks for meh food, meh ambiance, etc. Plus, this horrendous place is so corporate, you can just imagine their corporate execs sitting around the board room and figuring out ways to maximize the money they bring in for each customer. They charged us 4 bucks for the extra olive juice for my dirty martini - in all my years, no one has every charged me for that. In addition, my husband had the fish and chips, which was fried in horrendously stale/bad oil. He was locked in the bathroom for the entire day the next day. We went for brunch, on my birthday. The food was good, service was okay, but could have been better. One thing I did not like, I didn't eat all of my food and they would not let me take it with me, which is really crazy!! I paid for it and you could not sever it to anyone else. You could have charged me for a container. But, you would rather waste food that I paid for and throw in the trashis so crazy to me. I would like to hear from the manager why.
