Our AC went out at 4AM on Thursday morning during a heat wave - of course! I called and spoke with Jovie at about 10AM and she said earliest they could be here is Saturday. I said 'I'll take it!!' We laughed about living with the heat and she said she'd call if anyone happens to cancel. I made an appointment to diagnose why our A/C system was not cooling. CJ came to my home at the scheduled time and quickly diagnosed the fault to a leaky condenser unit. Since the unit was over 15 years old, and not the best of quality, CJ recommended (without pressuring me) upgrading to a much more efficient and quieter unit. I opted to have the complete HVAC system replaced and had the heater portion switched from natural gas to the heat-pump option. Jovie emailed me estimates of several options from which to choose. Consumer Warning for ELDERLY individual!!! We are deeply concerned that Coastal Heating and Cooling Inc., the contractor we hired, has failed to properly address serious issues since installing our HVAC unit on February 13, 2025. 1. Installation Issues The unit was installed without clear, professional guidance in a way that an elderly individual could understand. Additionally, their salesperson made a false statement regarding the installation, leading to inaccurate expectations about the system. 2. Repeated Failures and Hardship for Elderly Residents Since installation, the unit has malfunctioned repeatedly--four separate service calls and multiple follow-up visits, including from the manufacturer, AC Pro. These failures forced two elderly residents to endure several cold nights due to inadequate heating. 3. Consistent, Unmet Request From the very beginning, our request has been consistent: a proper reinstallation of a heat pump that meets the type and performance we reasonably expected when working with salesperson along with fair consideration for the damages incurred. 4. Escalation and Official Findings After numerous good-faith attempts over several months to resolve these issues directly with Coastal Heating and Cooling Inc., we were unable to reach an amicable resolution. We therefore filed an official complaint with the California Contractors State License Board. In June 2024, the Board concluded that Coastal Heating and Cooling Inc. was responsible for one or more possible violations of the California Business and Professions Code. In Summary: Based on our experience, we have encountered concerns with the company's installation practices, sales representations, and follow-up service. Alex and his team have been servicing my AC unit for the past few years. First time was to fix an issue that was caused by someone else, and I've hired them to come out to do annual maintenance ever since. They have come across some other issues (also caused by crappy work that was done by the builder). Every single issue that arose, Alex explained everything in detail, in a way that I could understand, and he also explained what could possibly happen in the future and gave me multiple options on how to proceed and fix the problems. He is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, honest and trustworthy. I actually feel bad that he had so much work to do on the same unit, but I trusted him to make sure everything was done right and working properly. They're very hardworking and thorough. We called Coastal for a 2nd opinion for our furnace. Another company had recommended either an expensive repair or replacement. Jarrad evaluated the furnace and said that the furnace was showing normal wear and tear, as it was an older unit, but was still functioning. I'll start off by saying our furnace was from the late 50's and still working great until the pilot broke. Unfortunately, this isn't something that can be easily replaced in something so old. I originally called Coastal Heating and Cooling to get a suggestion on options, but Kassidy ended up pointing out a few more issues we were completely unaware of, and I'm thankful he did. Because of his easy-to-understand information and that he sat through all my questions, we ended up hiring the company for a full furnace replacement and could not be happier. We did have some concerns, called back, and sure enough, he was back the next morning to adjust some things we had questions about. Our air went out this summer. Our home warranty sent a company out to repair it, they said it was unrepairable and that we needed a new system. We weren't thrilled with the original company that came out, so we requested a payout and shopped around for another HVAC company. I got quotes from four different companies. Coastal had a competitive price and a great warranty. In addition, I didn't feel like they were over selling us, they took time to explain the process and the options.
