This company is completely disreputable. They installed my new Lennox A/C Unit and 22 months, the installation failed, cooper weld swelled, refrigerant leaked out and the owner John refused to take any responsibility and was very rude..."Why should I be responsible was his answer when I requested that he stands behind his work! Apex will be hearing from the California State Contractors Board soon. Recommend that no one choose to do business with Apex Laguna Hills. I just received Johnny 's response.....he said he did nothing wrong, that I just don't want to pay him for work because a 12 month labor warranty is up. Two different HVAC companies that inspected my system admitted that they have had poor installations as well. However, both companies said they warranty their labor on a poor installation minimum of 2-3 years later. What's more, I received a most insincere "I wish you well".....Johnny promised to speak with his installation team about modifying a price to fix the leaking system. I'll start off by sharing that I don't like giving negative reviews. However, I thought I should share my experience with APEX. My unit, which was installed over 10 years ago, was taking longer to cool the house. I suspected it was low on refrigerant. I decided to have someone come over to service it and confirm the issue. I was told by the APEX technician that it was, in fact, low on refrigerant. I would have proceeded with adding the refrigerant but when I asked the technician (forgot his name) for an approximate cost he told me it can run up to $1,000 or more ($120 per pound). I immediately developed a level of mistrust. I knew it could not cost this much since the unit was cooling the house, it was just not as efficient. I decided not to have anything done by the APEX technician that day. In the following days I contacted the original installer who told me that based on the information I had provided it did not appear the unit would require much refrigerant. He came over and added the refrigerant. The unit needed less than 1 pound, much less than the estimate provided by APEX. I've given some thought to this situation and can't help but to think that the APEX technician was setting me up to pay much more than what I needed to. Thus, I don't think he was being honest. He seems like a nice guy, and maybe he is. But from a business perspective he gave me a bad impression. It's a bad feeling when you sense that someone is trying to overcharge or cheat you. People that do this don't seem to consider or care what impact it may have on that customer, they just want that money. Please be aware that this can happen to you. Be cognizant of this reality. The name of the game for many of these service related businesses (A/C, plumbing, auto repair, etc...) is to make as much money as possible. Many of these businesses don't seem to care about anything else. It's all about greed, NOT doing the right thing! APEX has left me with that impression. Buyer beware! Update: I received a call from the manager. He assured me that what I had experienced was the result of miscommunication and not dishonesty. I believe he was honest and accept his explanation. APEX does have very good reviews which is the reason I contacted them. I did appreciate the call. It reflects they do care about their customers. I have changed my original rating (from 1 to 3 stars). I can't give a better rating due to the negative experience described above. read more

Tony came by and fixed my annoying A/C fan issue. His experience and depth of knowledge were exemplary. He sent two hours testing and diagnosing our A/C system, all the while keeping me abreast of his findings. In the end only an adjustment was necessary and a recommendation for a lower MERV rated filter. The system now works flawlessly. And I only had to pay $89.00. Diagnose problem with my air condition unit. They came out and I ended with replacing the entire unit. They were very timely. This is very important to me. Josh and Juan were very diligent, courteous, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately they left a few scrape on the drywall. But the owner Johnny immediately agreed to fix it and did it the very next day. He agreed for the full payment only after the fix. Everything was done promptly. Some people would not agree to this; they will want the full payment up front and then they make a promise to come back and fix it, but they either never do or we have to go after them. The price was reasonable compared with another company I went with. They did not try to hammer me with annual services (yet). They said they will come around in February, for a maintenance check and they also provided extra filter. Overall, I am happy with them for now. I only hope this lasts more than 7 years!!!! read more

We called Apex as our downstairs heater had stopped functioning. They were quick to reply and scheduled us for the next day. They have a $49 diagnostic fee which is cheaper than other companies out there ($99 from competitors). When they're en route, you get a text which is nice so you know to be prepared! Jake came prior to our appointment time (which was fine with us) and assessed our heater. Unfortunately, our heater is on the newer side and he had to make a few phone calls. Our heater was not one that they could service but they did give us valuable information about the model so we could go elsewhere to get it serviced. Jake was clean and wore booties to not dirty up our house. I appreciate their honesty in not being able to fix or assess the issue with our heater. We were not charged for the visit. Although they could not assess our heater, they will def. be my go to company if there's any issues with my A/C. read more

A top 3 lifetime service experience. I had an unusual odor suddenly wafting through my ventilation system. They were able to schedule a diagnostic appointment the next day and a lovely young man came out and crawled around in my very tight attic space. He took his time and thoroughly checked and documented everything up there, including my dryer vent because I was smelling moist dryer air throughout the house when I ran my dryer. He determined nothing was wrong with the system but that with this particular unit sometimes if you run the AC and the heater back to back it can create a situation on the coil which produces a bad air smell but is not unsafe. He then noticed the dryer vent for the leak in it between the dryer and the ceiling so I need to replace and put a proper Junction on that. What could have been a very costly repair turned out to be nothing to worry about. Had this been an unscrupulous company they could have swindled a lot of money out of me cuz how would I know? I can't recommend them more highly than that! read more

In situations when you don't have everyday knowledge of the issue it can be frustrating and difficult verifying the truth and cost, suspicion is a terrible thing in that case, but APEX has established total trust. We needed to replace our old HVAC system so we called a few companies to get estimates. Jake, the technician from APEX was by far the best out of all the reps we dealt with. He didn't try to sell us the biggest or most expensive units like the other AC dealers did, but recommended the most suitable options based on our house size and usage. We got a great price and best of all, didn't have to wait for any credit to "appear" on our Visa statement or gift card to be "mailed out 4-6 weeks after completion" to get the same net price offered by the other dealers. This was an urgent issue but I still didn't expect to get a technician to my house on the same day. To my surprise, Johnny (the owner) came to my house himself within 30 min, diagnosed and fixed the issue within 20 minutes.
