Lovely casual restaurant in downtown Dana Point. It's a small restaurant so be sure and make a reservation. Parking can be found off the street or in the back of the restaurant. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Our waiter was in training, so he was still learning the menu, however if he didn't know the answer to any of our questions, he would ask another staff member. My friend ordered the pork chop with figs and substituted potatoes and got fried cauliflower instead. The pork chop was tender but a little on the dry side. The fried cauliflower was delicious! We also shared the seared scallops. They were so yummy and cooked perfectly and had a mango sauce. The portions are on the small side for the price. Everything is moderately priced. My friend took me there for my birthday dinner, at my recommendation (based on a recommendation from another friend) and I was excited to try it. They have converted half of the their parking lot into outside seating with shade umbrellas, high tops as well as regular tables and a nice astro turf carpet over the asphalt. To start we had the warm spinach and kale dip with chips which is always good. The Campari Tomatoes are amazing - get them! We split the fried chicken sandwich - you cannot believe how light and tender the chicken breast was. Such a good sandwich. Everything on their menu is good and their cocktails are always on point. Been here a couple times and it's decent food with delicious butter cake. Unfortunately won't ever be returning after getting food poisoning from the tri tip coastal tacos. My friend got the salmon tacos. We all have intuition and I knew when I took the lid off (they were to go) something didn't smell quite right. I was so hungry and they were what I thought pretty good - bedsides the cheese they can do without. That was gross and because it was hard/melted I peeled it right off the tortillas. Later I was violently throwing up, seeing remnants of my dinner, and all I could think about was how I shouldn't of eaten those tri tip tacos. G*damn. read more

My partner and I went to Coastal Kitchen for her birthday and we were so happy with it. The staff was friendly and our waiter was very attentive to our needs even with a big and busy section. Our table was all ready for us the minute we walked in (we did have reservations and we were glad we did!) We started with the Parker House rolls with a delicious herb butter. These rolls were life changing. We also got fries to share and enjoyed them very much. For entrees I enjoyed the half rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and my partner enjoyed the salmon with broccoli and parmesan. For dessert we shared the butter cake which left something to be desired flavor wise. However the meal overall was enjoyable. The restaurant was a beautiful beach/ nautical theme and the music was pleasant. We will definitely be returning. read more

I don't normally post reviews but felt moved to drop one here because I was pleasantly surprised.. I was looking for a place in Dana Point for an anniversary dinner and this was great! Started off with the rolls and clam chowder, the rolls were stretchy, salty and sweet with a pesto butter on top, this was absolutely phenomenal. The clam chowder was decadent and rich with thick clam chunks, very good as well. For the mains we ordered the Jumbo crab cakes and French dip sandwich. Both were phenomenal, crab cakes were loaded with crab and had a great umami flavor, side coleslaw provided a nice cut of acidity. French dip was amazing, super tender beef and the Au Jus was DIFFERENT. Absolutely delicious. Fries served alongside that were super crunchy and just a nice touch of fluffy on the inside. Was too full to try dessert but will be back to try the key lime and butter cake... Definitely need to come back again soon! We dined here last night for my brother in law's birthday. ( Due to Covid all the seating is outside) The seating was comfortable not too cold. We started with appetizers for the table: Smoke Trout Dip: This is a creamy fish dip that came with toasted pieces of bread. The taste had a light smokiness and didn't smell fishy. That's how i could yell it was fresh. It was refreshing to see this on the menu because most places don't serve it. The last time I had something like this was when I was vacationing in Florida. Roasted Red Pepper Hummus: The hummus was flavorful and texture was on point. ( I have a thing if the hummus is too smooth) The hummus came with tortilla chips. I liked how they automatically brought out extra chips without being asked. Some places will give you a bunch of hummus and like 4 peices of bread then charge you extra for it. I'm glad the servers were thinking one step ahead. They did this with the drinks too . They were super efficient! Crab Cake Salad: This was the star of the show for me! I'm glad I ordered this because the flavors were bursting from this dish! It came with one crab cake surrounded with salad, bits of avacado, red onion, sprinkles of corn, with a champagne vinegarette. It wasn't a salad where you are bummed that there is no more crab because the salad was bland. I could eat the salad by itself. It was that good. It was garnished with ruby red grapefruit wedges. Prime Filet: This was my main course the filet was done Medium well . It was really juicy and moist. It was delicious but I couldn't finish it because of the salad I had before hand. It comes with a loaded potato. Birthday note: If you are having a birthday here and bring a cake there is a cake cutting fee. I'm not sure what the cost was. Due to covid they don't allow candles on the cake because they don't want people blowing. I loved the dinner and would definitely be back for more Crab Cake Salad! read more

1 star for being vegan unfriendly - which I'm surprised about. There was 1 meal option which wasn't even an intentional menu item- it was their taco appetizer substituting cauliflower for meat & also holding multiple things off the tacos (ie. no sauce, no cheese). If it weren't for those bland tacos, I could've ordered their chips and hummus app or I could've done some vegetable sides. The non-vegans at my table seemed satisfied with their meals, however. When they came out they were lukewarm, yellow, undercooked and awful. We took one bite and that was it. Crab cakes were totally flavorless and $44. We had a reservation for Saturday evening. When we arrived we were seated right away. We ordered the spiced old fashioned and the Paloma. One smooth and spicy the other tart and tangy. We started with the chef tacos with tri tip. The flavor was fantastic and the meat was so tender. We ordered the crab cake salad and the seared ahi tuna salad. The seared ahi was thick cut (about 5 slices) which I thought I wouldn't like but it was delicious and had a bit of creamy sauce on top. We finished with the butter cake. I read others that said this was better than other places but we did not agree. The outside was warm and crunchy but the inside was gooey.
