The fish and chips tho'. Holy smokes. So good. Get them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio is darling, cozy, and tasteful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And we're in Laguna! All around perfection. Some charming hospitality would have sent Lumberyard over the top!

In town for birthday week, decided to take my wife and friends to dinner to celebrate her birthday. When we arrived it was busy but we were seated with our reservation at a high top in the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Live music and rustic decor with plenty of TV's playing the Olympics.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great cocktails and no skimping, our server brought our orders and they all were delizioso. Reasonably priced and will be back, my only disappointment was I mentioned the birthday when I made the reservation as well as confirming and nothing was done to acknowledge the birthday. Ciao

My partner and I went here together on a date, and over all the experience was just so so. The food: Overall mixed reviews here. I got the spinach and ricotta cavatteli, and it was very tasty. The ricotta was zesty and the artichoke hearts had a nice flavor as well. Cavatteli isn't my favorite pasta though, and I think it could have been less Al Dente My partner got the grilled halibut sandwich. Overall very yummy! I thought the fish was a little dry but that's about it. On the side, they got the coleslaw. Not recommended. We also ordered a skillet cornbread as an appetizer. I liked the jalapeño and cheese inside. It was a fluffy cornbread, which isn't my preference, but if that's your cup of tea it's a good cornbread. The positive: [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had live music and the musicians were very good. It made the restaurant very lively.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The negative: The price. The cornbread was $14 so we were disappointed when it came out and wasnt too much larger than the bread you might expect to come with your entrée. My pasta dish was $23, and my partner's sandwich was $25. While the food was pretty good, and this is Laguna Beach, the quantity was not much for the price. We also prefaced at the beginning of the meal that we were planning on ordering dessert. After we finished our entrées, our waiter was MIA. When he came back around it was just after closing. In order to make sure the kitchen staff could go home on time, we didn't order dessert. Overall, it was a largely mediocre experience. I would probably eat somewhere else if given the option.

Still amazing! Came in with some girlfriends to have dinner before going to see Pageant of The Masters and we had the best meal and service. The alcoholic root beer floats are amazing! Dinner and service are always great here. Highly recommend if you are in the area and want to have a nice meal! Sit by the window and people watch. Super interesting.

I've been here a few times and have always loved it. This time I went with my mom for lunch. She ordered the fish and chips with cole slaw and I ordered the filet of sole sandwich with spinach. Both were really superb dishes. My mom's fish and chips dish was picture perfect in the way the Alaskan cod was prepared: crispy batter, very fresh fish, a great tartar sauce. The cole slaw was very well prepared: fresh ingredients, crunchy texture. My filet of sole sandwich had huge pieces of fresh sole on ciabatta with avocado, arugula and aioli. The spinach that came with it was a generous portion and delicious. Our servers were wonderful: friendly and helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat on the outdoor patio on a beautiful day. The ambiance couldn't have been better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Finally, for lunch, the dishes were $16. Very reasonably priced, especially for Laguna Beach. This place will become a regular of mine.

After planning to go to Zinc Café just down the street... We pivoted and came here instead... As I did not know Zinc is vegetarian (and my girlfriend and I are both meat eaters)! Jose was our server - and he was exceptional. At the moment, I am having so many issues with food and things I have to stay away from... It's a pain to go out to eat- and a stress to believe the server and restaurant will deliver. After listing all of the foods/ingredients I need to avoid... Jose didn't miss a beat. He helped me navigate through the menu- and knew EXACTLY what was in EACH dish and every single dressing and sauce which I SOOOOOOO appreciate because it ensures I'm not going to be sick in a few hours. I ordered the beet salad (minus the goat cheese and minus the dressing (can't do dairy at the moment and he said the dressing had canola oil in it.)... I also added chicken and he said they could grill that with olive oil. Jose is literally the most INFORMED server I have ever had! Seriously. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars... Is because of the food. While it all tasted really yummy... I wish the chicken was organic/Pastor raised... And that they always used olive oil in their dressings, not just when requested. We now how bad seed oils are at this point- so it's always disappointing for me to see nice restaurants still using it. We are not at Taco Bell, after all. Because I couldn't have the dressing it came with, Jose brought me a side of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Right now, here are the foods I need to avoid: *Gluten *Meat glue (yes, you read that correct- and it's more commonly used in restaurants than you think, so I'm hoping my chicken breast wasn't held together with it!) *Canola oil (used in nearly every restaurant and in nearly every marinade/vinaigrette/sauce) *Dairy *Certain veggies *Certain herbs Knowing all that- I'm so grateful Jose was my server today... or who knows how I'd be feeling tonight!

The Lumberyard is a Laguna Beach staple, a spot you can always count on for solid food, great service, and strong drinks. Every time. If you go, don't skip the chicken pot pie and meatloaf -both are next-level comfort food and dishes I'd consider special. Rich, hearty, and packed with flavor, they're the kind of meals that keep you coming back. Whether you're a local or just visiting, The Lumberyard delivers consistency and quality in a warm, inviting setting. Definitely worth a visit.

The Lunch menu had nice offering. The fish & chips with fries were good and crispy. The sole fish on the ciabatta was perfectly baked. The arugula, tomato and avocado sauce (with hint of spicy) made it a tasty and filling sandwich. Service was efficient with one person taking care of seating, bar and serving

Down in Laguna beach for the art festival. We were walking around and saw the lumberyard on the corner. They would prefer reservations, but they were kind enough to squeeze us in. We came early so we wouldn't have any trouble. There were two of us. The food was yummy. yummy Yum. We started with a crab cake salad, followed by a French dip with sautéed spinach on the side and ended with an apple mango cobbler That I can't even describe. It was so good with ice cream. Our servers name was Victor and he was very attentive. My water glass was constantly filled, and he made sure everything was good. I would suggest if you're here out of town it's a good location to come to.

A nice cozy restaurant within walking distance of the beach. Rustic decor, as be fitting the name. Plenty of seating, we had a reservation but didn't need it since the place had so many open tables. We had a mixed variety of food including the chicken pot pie, the beef stroganoff, fish, and a cheeseburger. The food was reasonably priced and good if not amazing. I was a little disappointed in the chicken pot pie. The crust was perfect but the filling needed a little bit more seasoning. The zucchini planks were amazing, easily the highlight of the meal. Drinks were good and the service was lovely. I would definitely recommend this place and if I'm in the neighborhood will gladly return

Took my mother-in-law here for her birthday and we all had such a great experience!…read more We got there around 4-4:15pm and had about a 20 minute wait, but we were able to find a high top table that we got to sit at and were able to order drinks from the bar, so that helped to pass our time. We got seated at our table at our table around 4:30p and had the most perfect view of the ocean! *we went on a Friday night and noticed the patio cleared out about 4:45-5pm and I didn't appear to have a lot of people waiting during that time. The main patio was covered with umbrellas, so once you are seated for dinner, there was plenty of umbrellas for shade and heaters for when it got a little cooler. For our food orders, and as recommended by our server, we went with their seafood options and ordered their Pacific Ceviche for an appetizer and for Entrees my husband got the Roasted Halibut and me and my mother-in-law both got the Scallop and Shrimp pasta. We all loved our dishes and were very satisfied with our choices. Their menu does have non-seafood options, but why not to try what they're most prominent for? They don't have a dessert menu, but they heard that we were celebrating mom's birthday so they brought us a little Toffee Cake to share and enjoy...and for a place that doesn't have dessert, the cake was pretty delicious. Such a cute place all around. My husband and I can't wait to go back! Parking - they have valet parking available right in front of the restaurant or theres street metered parking in the surrounding area.

I was really hoping for a great lunch, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing…read more The poke and mussels were actually very good, which makes it even more frustrating that the rest of the meal fell so short. I ordered the scallop and shrimp pasta, and on my very first bite of the scallop, it had a strong ammonia taste--a common sign that seafood has gone bad. After that, I completely lost my appetite and couldn't eat the rest of my meal. My daughter ordered the cioppino, and after checking the seafood in her dish, we noticed the scallop was also very rubbery and didn't seem fresh either. Fresh seafood is something restaurants should never compromise on. Based on this experience, I can't recommend eating here and would suggest trying another restaurant instead.

I was trying to decide between the chicken or the Bistro plate and our server Derrick said his fav was the chicken, I'm usually a creature of habit, but I'm so glad I went with his recommendation. The presentation was impressive! The chicken was tender and moist and the gravy was spectacular, so much so, that I asked for extra so that I could dip and have it with every bite. The whipped mashed potatoes just added more deliciousness and the roasted corn on the corn on a skewer gave it the final touch of tastyness. Sal, the man in charge at the time-- apologized to my party and was more than willing to make sure we don't leave his restaurant hungry. He was willing to create a second chance for us to change our opinion of their restaurant. And our opinions changed in a snap! He lead us to be seated in sight for the beautiful laguna beach. Their hospitality & attentiveness the second time was more than enough to compensate our initial experience. The food that was served to us was worth the wait for every bite! I'd like to thank Sal for making it out of his way to ensure that anyone that comes into his restaurant leaves satisfied! Also a big thank you to Mariah, as she made my party feel welcomed. Another big shout out to the kind lady bussing tables and serving waters for her kindness and speed! No apologies were expected by my party and I, but we're grateful to have this experience tonight.

Oh man. Where to even begin. I'd say let's just start from the service, then the food, then we can…read moretalk ambience. Arriving is difficult and the only way in is from the street (so walking) good luck finding any signage or smidge of help to lead you into the restaurant to even start your journey, and this wwaaasss a journey. Found our way inside and ordered drinks for our table of TEN which is conveniently the biggest table in the whole establishment (remember this for later) once we sat half the table had drink orders taken and the other half waited about 10-15 minutes after sitting to get just their drinks ordered. Half of the party figured water was fine based on the wait of a not busy restaurant..Finally had our drink orders taken by the bartender and things started looking up, everyone makes mistakes, or so we thought. Then the fun part, the food. We're patient people but when you wait for 32 minutes (and see other tables sat after you order their drinks, get them and then order their food) before you finally have to get up to ask another server to serve you because not only have we not been checked in on, but our drinks needed to be refilled before ever ordering. A server graciously takes everyone's orders, and given the timeline we had to wait for ANYTHING up to this point 80% of our party decided to leave and go watch the sunset while the waiting staff avoided us like the plague and started making the food. *STILL* not checked in on again by the new server or the one we supposedly had previously. But boy did yall NOTICE when the whole table got up and went on a WALK to the beach yes our whole giant table had time to enjoy the sunset, while the food was being made. Food comes out and it's JUST alright/mid at best, definitely not worth the price or to jump up and down over. And lastly ambience, the giant table is conveniently located in the middle of the room between the recently divorced bar Karens who haven't been cut off yet and every other party who has to be (or was treated) like regulars because we watched the staff wait on every other party as you'd expect ANY restaurant let alone one of this "caliber" and I use that word lightly. Best part was we watched the manager/owner who LOOKED the part but couldn't be farther from acting it. Go up to EVERY table and shake hands or greet the tables, except the giant table in the middle of your restaurant. Then he has the AUDACITY after we paid and STILL tipped well to ask us to MAYBE CONSIDER coming back or if we needed parking validation because NNOOWW our money is as good as everyone else's apparently. So my advice to you if you made it to this point is: 1. Don't look like you came from the beach (in a beach town) whether thats your clothes, hair, etc 2. Don't have tattoos or anything that they'll judge you for, like your skin or hair color 3. Don't bother coming to this restaurant period and spend your money ANYWHERE else, there's a Jack in the Box across the street that probably has better services and food. In a world where every restaurant sells the same steak, burgers, or fish items it solely comes down to your SERVICE and how you treat people and Sapphire failed miserably tonight. We will not be going back, and anyone who asks about this restaurant or our experience in a town we do a lot of business in will know our opinions. Word of mouth moves faster than your service on a slow day. Cheers

Would 100% come back. That said, I'd admit, a certain DTLA Michelin restaurant has set my expectations of south of border seafood cuisine a bit too high (starts with H) so I'll try to be reasonable. Also the items picked were surprisingly huge and i was too full to finish my meal. 9/10 The chips tasted delicious, bean dip was something new and delicious, salsa was fresh and bold, and the roasted pepper salsa was surprisingly not too spicy, really good. 8/10 trio de cheviche. Good assortment and size of the dish. Shrimp was ok, I felt it was missing something, octopus was good, my personal favorite was the marinaded tuna. 8/10 seafood chile relleno, not a bad assortment, sides were good, large portions of food. 10/10 Coco rita, this margarita is definitely something different! And pairs with everything amazingly, I love it, and this is coming from someone who normally hates coconut. 9/10 they brought out this chocolate cake I dont see on the menu but they will if it's your birthday, but in my case to celebrate my new engagement. Super moist. The place is really loud ambient wise when busy which was around 8pm which is normal of any popular place but after near closing around 9:30 is pretty quiet and casual on a Sunday. Total bill after a 21% tip ran me total $165 and I had leftovers. Free chips, 1 large giant appetizer, and 1 large entree could potentially feed 3 people if you don't eat a lot. If you don't wanna have leftovers, go easy on the chips but that's gonna be hard.

Ambiance plays a big role (in my opinion) to a restaurant and not getting to be seated inside or at least on a patio docked some points off for me. For a special occasion dinner, I don't want to be sitting in a parking lot tent. For the price point, I didn't really feel the restaurant quality (plating, service, ambiance) really reaches those expectations. I can tell their food is great, I think I wish I chose something different when ordering. I couldn't tell you exactly what we ordered since I think they launched a new menu just this week but I'll describe it the best I can. Espresso Martini -5/5 Great espresso martini! No notes. Burrata with pesto - 4/5 Light and refreshing appetizer. This wasn't my first choice for appetizer but my partner loves burrata so we got it. It would be really hard to mess this up so I have no notes. $20+ for one tomato was pretty shocking, though. Tagliolini with shrimp and mushrooms - 2/5 To be fair, I've never had tagliolini before so I don't have a reference point of how it should be and maybe it's just not my style. The pasta was thin and flat and very very soft. There was absolutely no bite to it whatsoever and felt like it might be over cooked (again, I'm not expert so maybe this is how it should be). Because of the texture and size it kind of was just one big soft clump on the plate. The shrimp and mushrooms were nice and I enjoyed the sauce but I really didn't like the pasta on this one. And I know plating have any affect of the food but this one seemed really sloppily thrown together and I was pretty sad when it was put on the table. Definitely wasn't pretty or exciting to look at. Pappardelle made w/ beets in quail ragu - 4/5 We really enjoyed this pasta! The pasta itself had a subtle sweetness to it from the beets which made it much more interesting than your typical pasta dough. It had a nice chew, which is what I was really missing in the other dish. The quail ragu was yummy, although we did find a bone but it was large enough to easily pick out and put to the side. Panna Cotta - 4.5/5 Thick and rich vanilla panna cotta with a tart berry compote. Very delicious!

Kevin, our server, was very informative and patient with us, letting us know his recommendations on the menu and the history behind the restaurant. We ended up ordering the steak tartare, chicken kyiv, and the salmon. The steak tartare was very good, well seasoned The chicken kyiv was amazing, the mashed potatoes were perfect and the chicken was so flavorful and juicy with a crispy outer coating. The salmon was also excellent, extremely moist and the vegetables paired very nicely. We also got two cocktails, and Kevin kindly offered us a complimentary espresso martini. If you're ever in Laguna beach celebrating a special occasion I would recommend you consider this restaurant!

Last time I visited this restaurant was 10 months ago. Yesterday, for Mother's Day, we decided to…read morecome back and try both their brunch menu and the main menu they created. There were five of us sitting on the first floor, and we absolutely loved the food and the brunch. We had the cheese omelet and the salmon croissant -- both were amazing and very delicious. From the main menu, we ordered the steak, filet mignon, and seafood risotto. Everything tasted excellent. Thank you again for opening such a wonderful restaurant. There were a lot of people, and the staff were extremely busy, so we completely understand the situation. We waited about 30 minutes for the food, but that was understandable because the restaurant was packed and the workers were doing their best. We give this place 5 stars for the delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, and great service. We will definitely come back again. Thank you so much!
