Wow. The food here blew my mind. I've been wanting to go here for so long, but it's tough to get a reservation. Ours was at 1pm and we got seated immediately. They have upstairs and downstairs seating with plenty of shade and a nice big artificial lemon tree covering the area. Our server Mercedes was so attentive and very patient. We ordered the Ciccio, champion tomato and cheese, and the mamma Mia. The Ciccio was surprisingly so good for how simple it was. The texture and flavors were absolutely amazing. A must try The Champion was good but I don't know it should be the pizza they're known for. The crust and tomato sauce were so delightful! My absolute favorite was the Mamma Mia. The dough reminded me of focaccia which was so crispy. The meatballs on top were so light and not heavy at all. Everything paired so well together on this pizza. Our server, Mercedes, recommend the olive oil soft serve with lemon zest and it was JAW DROPPING. I believe it to be top 3 soft serve I've ever had. The combination paired so well and it was so refreshing in this heat. I can not wait to come back here and try more items. Highly recommend.

I was so happy to make it back to Truly after my first visit back in December! This time there was six of us and it was the perfect excuse to order a lot of food We got the garlic bread and harissa wings to start. The garlic bread was very garlicky and I loved how there were real chunks of garlic in it. The wings were super crispy and the perfect amount of spice. For the pizzas, we got three round and three square to share. Round: champion cheese, dante, skinny margherita. Square: pepperoni, spinach and artichoke, mamma mia. I honestly have zero notes for any of the pizzas. The dough for both was just as good as I remembered, they really are the stars of the show. If I had to pick my favorites of the night, it would be the champion cheese and skinny margarita. Though they are so simple, Truly makes them so well. I also got their house made yuzu lemonade to start and it was super refreshing. The yuzu really shines and it's a great option for a non alcoholic drink. And obviously for dessert we shared the olive oil ice cream, a must try when there and the perfect way to end the meal.

This pizza is so gourmet and very good. I placed a to go order because reservations were impossible to get. Even my to go order was a two hour wait for 6 pizza's. We got the pepperoni and the Dante which is made with vodka sauce. The Dante is truly a delicious bite. We added pepperoni to it and it elevated it so much. Eventually I would love to eat in the restaurant because it looked beautiful, but it is obviously a very popular spot!

Must try: Sweet & Spicy! Why: Honestly, all their pizzas (round and square) were delish! My fav was Sweet & Spicy! It had red sauce, mozzarella, hot soppressata, stracciatella, Mike's hot honey, and fresh basil. Crust was crispy, fluffy, and slightly salty and I loved it. Flavors and textures blended so well in each bite. My family has been raving about this place for a while so I'm glad I was finally able to try with them. We ordered appetizers (garlic knots, salad, and wings) with 4 pizzas. It was filling for 5 people so well had leftovers that we enjoyed later, and it was still delish after a few minutes in a toaster oven! Notes: Love the renovated area, Dana Lantern. Parking could be tough but we got lucky with street parking when someone was leaving. Exterior and interior was nicely decorated. Clean and spacious restaurant with covered outdoor seating on main floor and upstairs. Two large bathrooms upstairs that are clean. All the workers were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Definitely coming back to try more pizzas and dessert!

Ordered pizzas for pickup since they were booked out for reservations. The flavor and crust were delicious. I did like the flavor of the La Foresta better than the Dante. I think for next time I will have to dine in and try their extra thin crust pizzas.

Lives up to the hype! This is now one of the best pizzas I've had. Reservations are really important here - I don't think many people can get in within an hour as a walk in. The vibe is stunning, and I loved the shaded outdoor areas that gave a rooftop feel. We ordered the Sweet and Spicy pizza - very balanced flavors and delicious. The crust is to die for. I can't wait to come back!

Definitely expect a wait here and get a reservation if you really want to dine in. I went on a Thursday night and the wait time was 2 hrs so we ended up ordering takeout. They also gave us plates, ranch, and utensils after asking for those. The restaurant was super beautiful though and I would def wanna come back sometime. Not sure why they didn't let us order any square pizzas to go but that was kinda unfortunate bc I really wanted to try the smoky vodka Note for takeout: they asked for my phone number so I assumed they were gonna text me when the food was ready. Since they told us it would be a roughly 45 min wait, we left to walk around and came back around that time. Unfortunately the food was already done when we got there and was basically room temp by the time we got it. I prob should've clarified if they would notify me when the food was ready but just something to keep in mind The dante: 5/5 this was my fav item that we tried Umami mushroom: 4/5 I liked this but the crust was slightly burnt Spagnola salad: 4/5 this was recommended to me so we got it even though I don't really like arugula in general. It was still good though bc of the dressing and topping

Came here on a walk in on a Friday night. Told me it would be 2 hours so we walked over to the bar across the street and waited for our table. Turned to be only an hour. Sat us at the bar tops by the kitchen which was cool to watch the pizzas being made. UBER good pizzas here. Mushroom pizza had a mushroom filling on each slice and I added prosciutto. Margarita pizza made me feel like I was back in Italy. Host was sassy sitting us but I didint mind since I'm sure there stressed on Friday nights lol. Will def be back!!

Heard about the hype and the pizza was worth it! I tried The Dante and I really like how crispy but not too tough the crust was. It balanced well with the robust savory flavors of the sauce and toppings. The only downside is the long wait time, but the time did go faster than the estimate we were provided. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but only bar seating was offered at the time. It was slightly uncomfortable because it was high chairs and smaller table space. The Dana Point Wedge Salad looked really good and would want to try it next time!

For the past few years, I'd been hearing about Truly Pizza in Dana Point, so we finally made the trip even without reservations. As a group of five, we were told the wait would be about an hour and a half and that we'd be seated at the outdoor stools since there weren't any tables available. Totally fine with us, considering it's nearly impossible to score a reservation, but not ideal as we had a five-year-old who we had to make sure didn't fall off. Ha! First impressions? This place is gorgeous. It's a beautiful two-story, open-air restaurant and easily the most aesthetically pleasing pizza spot I've ever visited. I had to do a double take to make sure the lemon trees weren't real. The front of the menu reads, "Truly Pizza: A Love Story," and I remember thinking, "I'm about to fall in love." But I didn't. That's not to say the pizza wasn't excellent, because it was. We started with the Garlic Pull Apart Bread and the Seasonal Burrata, and both were fantastic. For our pizzas, we ordered the Champion Tomato & Cheese (round), the Smoky Vodka (square), and the Suprema (square). The Champion came with six slices, while the other two came with eight. It was more than enough food for our group, and we still had leftovers to take home. Everything we tried was delicious. The dough on the Champion Tomato & Cheese was outstanding. The pistachio lemon pesto on the Smoky Vodka added an awesome twist, and if you're someone who loves a loaded pizza, the Suprema delivers exactly what you'd expect in all the right ways - it's a classic. My only hesitation is that my expectations were almost impossibly high. When a place requires reservations a month in advance and is ranked the #4 pizza restaurant in the U.S. by 50 Top Pizza, I expected to have one of those "I'll never stop thinking about this meal" experiences. Instead, I had a really, really good pizza dinner. And I've had plenty of those. That said, I'd absolutely recommend Truly Pizza. It's a unique experience that stands apart from your neighborhood pizzeria, and you can tell the team genuinely cares about both the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. The staff checked on us throughout the meal, and the attention to detail was noticeable. To be fair, we also missed out on two pizzas I really wanted to try. The Viola was sold out by the time we ordered (not sure how that happens as our server said they haven't had it for weeks), and the Umami Mushroom, the restaurant's Pizza of the Year winner, is already at the top of my list for next time. Maybe then it'll truly be a love story.

Got to try Truly Pizza on July 4 and parking was so hard to find. It is all street parking, after circling around for 30 minutes, we saw a gas station nearby that had parking for $35... ouch It was a short 5 min walk to the restaurant. The ambiance here was very nice and aesthetically pleasing. Our server was friendly and had great recommendations. We got the garlic bread and suprema pizza and olive oil sea salt ice cream to share. The garlic bread was just ok, we did order a side of marinara sauce which helped. But, the bread was on the harder side & flavor was lacking. The pizza was delicious! It was jam packed with so many toppings, we definitely had leftovers. The star of the show was definitely the ice cream. When I heard olive oil was drizzled on top, I was hesitant. But, combined with the salt and lemon zest, it was a perfect balance and an amazing sweet treat to end our meal!

TRULY a great experience. From entering into the ambiance and feeling transported to Italy. All the way through leaving on a full stomach after an unexpected traditional dessert I was always pleasantly surprised. We went straight into the pizza and skipped all the fluff. There are THREE different crusts with my favorites being between the SQUARE CRUST option with SESAME BUTTER added on or the most flavorful and unexpected which was the thin crust. I don't even like tomatoe sauce but that was delicious and really enhanced the flavors of the toppings with such a thin vessel (which is hard to admit as a bread lover). My advice is order anything and everything that sounds good but at least one pizza from each section. The staff was accommodating with most adjustments for dietary preferences and very kind in helping us stack our obscene amount of leftovers in to go boxes as we continued to order more food to try new items because we all know I won't be able to get another reservation again. For me a must try is the OLIVE OIL SOFT SERVE which paired flavors I have never experienced so well for a creamy sweat and salty finish. Tips: Bring a JACKET it gets windy close to the beach. Make a RESERVATION and arrive early to find parking. Ask for the specials in case you get lucky with a pizza. Order a HOT TEA to help digestion and keep you cozy.

    How to reserve a table?

    Online or call the restaurant

Do they take phone order for pick up?

Yes, they do! It helps if you've already decided on what you want and can go over the order quickly since they're typically very busy and may even have to put you on hold if it takes too long :)

I've been trying to get a reservation for quite a while because we've heard it's great. Online reservations are fully booked for dinner through the 30-day window and I've called but the reservation line just rings. What's the best way to get through?

They are so busy making it hard to get through. We wanted to eat there so we took a chance and stood in line for those without reservations for an hour. It was worth our wait. Take a chance and just go. It's delicious!

Are there any vegan and gluten free options? I see you offer a gluten free crust 😊

Yes, Gf crust was good. You can get it on any pizza besides the champion award winner pizza for $6 extra.

    Is a reservation required?

Highly recommend. Walk ups have to wait quite a bit of time.

Accept Apple Pay? (can confirm yes)

Yes I used there 3 xs

    Accept walk in?

Yes, but just be prepared for a long wait. Unless you go on a slow time. If busy be prepared to wait.

    Are dogs permitted?

    Yes, we're dog friendly!!

How big are the pies? How many people for one pie would you recommend?

This place is quality over quantity while still being affordable imo, live a little and get a 2nd or 3rd pie . They have alot of options so indulge a little. I say one pie is good for 3 people

So hard to get rez.....can I bring my dog or would that their seating options for me? Don't want to show up with my dog and not have a place to sit.

I know some days are tougher than others, like Friday and Saturday evenings, but I find the most success planning my visits 3-4 weeks out and I haven't had any issues securing a reservation. Also, dogs are welcome! There is only outdoor seating, so…

Is there a take out option or is everything dine in only?

Yes, Truly offers take out and you can order online and there is a side entry for pick up.

    Is there indoor seating?

    Yes there is

Hopefully you have room for a wheelchair inside?

I don't believe the second floor would be wheelchair accessible but the first floor should be no problem for access.

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes!

    Is there public restrooms?

Public ? Truly has restrooms upstairs for customers yes !

Has anyone tried the gluten free crust? Is it good? In what ways is it different from their regular crust (taste and texture)? Thanks

I would rate it as more on thin crisper side than thick fluffy crusts. It's just above average in my opinion but not spectacular.

    Is downstairs patio dog friendly?

It is a great space for dogs. Try and get one of the many tables that line the outside so your dog can remain mostly separated from waitstaff and any other dogs

What are the vegan options that are mentioned on the menu?

https://www.trulypizza.com/menus/ Here's the menu. I suspect you can ask for anything meatless.

Do they have a happy hour menu?

I'm not sure. Call Truly Pizza in Dana Point. Thanks

Great service and friendly staff. Everyone is very knowledgeable and shares little tidbits about the wine while you enjoy. A few Suggestions / observations: 1. The self service wine area has a massive wine display that limits access to patrons who are there. A thin long belly bar would make it much more social and accessible. Constantly feel like I am bumping into people or wine bottles just to grab a taster then standing in a corner to get out of the way. 2. Scallops were also well prepared, short rib was good but not spectacular, and the jumbo shrimp cocktail-well, it was a shrimp cocktail-hard to screw that up, but nothing remarkable either. The let-down here was definitely the dessert, which is really hard to mess up. The flourless chocolate cake tasted like a vegan cake made with aquafaba or some other not good flour substitute. Dense to the point of almost being chewy-why not go with a molten chocolate cake instead? Chef needs a new recipe for this one. Glad we did not order anything else because if it was on this level, it would have been double my disappointment. A few of the cocktails were good with a strong pour. For these kind of prices and food, there are better options out there. This is not a bad place, but not one I'd put on my bucket list.
