Made reservations for three but needed to add a 4th. Figured no big deal since all you need to do is add a chair. Was told it was impossible to add a fourth to a reservation for three. Used to go here and enjoyed the atmosphere. But not likely to return after this ridiculousness. Not a fan of triangular tables or chair shortages. read more

Restaurant service was good the food was reasonable and well prepared would recommend a serious look at your front end though your hostesses were incredibly rude got a reservation book through American Express platinum card when we arrived you did not have the reservation that's forgivable as mistakes happen your hostess asks to see the email confirmation also acceptable sees Amex spoke to mike also ok. but the attitude of your hostesses was unbelievable not apologetic end it appeared to annoy and bother her it was like she was doing us a favor an was visibly irritated I have worked in restaurants for many years of my life and I do know that a nasty hostess can seriously be a detriment to a restaurant so really consider the girl with the doc Martin boots that was sitting people Friday evening. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. We went there for Father's Day and was extremely disapointed. We had to sit inside which we had never done. Wow was it noisy inside! I had to take my hearing aids out because I couldn't stand it. The rest of my party just complained it was too loud. We couldn't even have a conversation. Three of us ordered a Ceasar salad as a starter prior to our meals. Our meals came an our server said he put the salad orders in late and did we still want them with our meal and we declined them. The meal looked and smelled delicious (as always there). My daughter and I each had pork chops. The taste with the fig sauce was great but they were not done inside, way to pink. We asked for them medium not medium rare which we got. My husband ordered the ribeye which he always does. He orderered medium rare. It came out so rare he could barely eat it which was not like him at all. We didn't send the meat back because we figured they were busy for Father's Day. We were so disappointed in our meal. I am editing this review because I was so impressed with the management. Two days after our visit they saw that we declined our salads. The management called me at home ( got my number from open table) She apologized and was quite concerned. I told her what I had written and she again apolgized. Careless and unimaginative service ... turned down a group of 10 people while the restaurant effectively empty - all without providing alternatives (such as splitting party into 2 tables) and with a blatantly un engaging attitude. I had been wanting to try this newer addition to Dana Point and had the Ahi Tuna salad. It was SO DELICIOUS! The Ahi tuna was incredibly fresh, and overall salad was tasty! Highly recommend! read more

First time here so some feedback. They sat us in the back with all the other kids and right in front of the noisy kitchen. My daughters are 14 and 12 and I swear they saw them and decided we belonged in the back. So annoying. Second-they brought out my wine but not my Mom. We had to ask and wait several minutes to get hers. Two people tried to take my daughters plate with lots of fries(which we were all eating) on the plate. Clearly they were trying to rush us-which we were all still eating. On a positive note-3/4 entrees were good. The filet, Cuba I sandwich and crab cakes were good. The pork chop was super dry with mushy/chewy Brussel sprouts. When a place charges $28 or more for entrees it's bad when it's not cooked right. I will not be going there again as it didn't blow me away and there are plenty of expensive places to go. read more

Absolutely horrible Went to dinner with my family tonight and I am from out of state. Ordered entrees and a bottle of wine + desert and was told our 2 hours was up and had to leave. When has 2 hours ever been a time limit? Was it due to COVID 19 and their seating availability? There was a wait and did they need our seats? We just got our desert and did not eat it and they took it.. military family and also biracial... was this an issue?? New baby 2 months old in the family, thus of course dinner takes a bit longer... told their new rules were on a typed out letter on the door... Really? Was it due to COVID? This place went down hill fast. My family and I no longer eat here because of the poor customer service. The last time we went I was served a bug in my food. I politely brought it to the servers attention and didn't finish my plate. Much to my surprise I was charged for the entree on my bill. When I inquired she said she would give me 50% off the entree with the bug. The bartender amended the receipt and dumped it on my table without saying anything. They acted as if I was the one in the wrong for not wanting to pay for an entree b/c there was a bug in it. I was baffled by how they handled the situation. I use to hold work related luncheons there but never again. Will take my business elsewhere. read more

5 of us for lunch. Service was great . The ambience is very nice. They have a broad selection of beer and wine. The best thing we had was the crab cake salad. The crab cakes had a nice crust and tasted like fresh picked crab. The trout salad wasn't as flavorful as I expected. The salad with fried chicken was not memorable. The Cuban Sandwich was overpriced and not flavorful on the wrong bread and not pressed enough. Skip the rolls. The butter cake had way too much sugar. I'm not running back any time soon. Second time dining here was as great as the first. The service was excellent from first contact, making our reservation, through dinner and dessert. Our table had 3 pan roasted grouper (consistantly moist and probably the best plates of the night) , 2 trout, and a cioppino. I got to try a bite of everything and it was ALL perfectly cooked and seasoned (I kinda wish my trout had a little less sauce, that is my preference, though it was delicious.) The starters were great also: particularly enjoyed the tortilla soup, others were pleased with their caesar salads, and a fried brie salad. We tried the key lime and s'mores pies for dessert... both were great; not the standard precut, prevoiusly frozen, mass production dessert. The atmosphere was great with warm lighting that still allows you to see your food. The restuarant, patio, and bar were full but not crowded. The layout seems to negate a lot of noise so we are able to converse easily. Overall another great experience. Thank you Coastal Kitchen, we are looking forward to our next visit. read more

Coastal Kitchen has been our "go-to" restaurant for years - both for special occasions and casual week day dinners. When the Covid-19 shutdown began, we continued to order weekly. We wanted to do our part and were impressed with how they handled the curbside dining. We ordered dinners, appetizers, dessert, and drinks, and we tipped generously. Today was their first day offering dining room service, but being a high risk person, I wanted to order curbside. I was told they were not offering this because they were worried about running out of food. This says to me, "I don't need your business," nor care about your needs. This was our first time here and it was PHENOMENAL. We booked our reservation online via open table and when we got there the service was great. We had a choice of inside or out and we sat inside. We ordered drinks, entrees and dessert! My mom ordered a lemon drop, my dad ordered the DFT stone IPA, my brother ordered a dirty martini and I ordered the cucumber jalapeño marg. All were delicious!. Neftali was our server and he way incredible. He was attentive, fast and kind. Highly recommend the blackened ahi, salmon and crab cake entrees. PRO TIP: all entrees can interchange the sides with no problem. Don't forget to get the butter cake for dessert. We inhaled it when it arrived to the table. Overall 10/10 for this restaurant. Love the Hawaiian ribeye--really tender and flavorful. Tastes great with the Campari tomatoes and blue cheese. The ribs are tasty too.

I am not sure what the issue was but we came in and we started with one server and then all the sudden a different server came to take our orders with no explanation. We were clearly in the section of the previous server so then we ended up getting neglected until we had to wave down another server who was passing by after eating our meal and long after our waters were empty. My family mentioned that the girl who took over did notice the waters being empty and didn't do anything about it or even ask us how are food was. Personally it seemed either racial or prejudice based off how we may have "looked" because in no way did anyone say or do anything verbal to cause that kind of situation. Least to say I was bragging about this place to friends and family but the service came off so snobby & rude. Just for that I won't be back. My family are good people and they made us feel like scum. Other then that whole part, the food was really good. If your white and look rich I'm sure you will be treated with the utmost care I had a fantastic experience here. First, when your paying 13-16 bucks for your drinks they better be spectacular! I wasn't let down. I got the jalapeño margarita - so spicy. Yummm and I got their mule - so refreshing. I will be back just for this cocktail! Made with gin, ginger beer, and fresh grapefruit! A new favorite! My friend got a Moscow mule and that was very tasty too! The food. Yum! The portions are pretty small for the price but I kinda expect that from nicer places to dine at. I had their ceviche. Super yummy. Next time I will add some spice though since that's my preference and it will be perfect. Also - ORDER the fried cauliflower. Holy! So good! It's covered in a curry spice that makes a killing on your taste buds! My friend had the street tacos which I tried and ehh but again I'm not a big taco person so don't take my advice on that. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! I was not expecting much when I ordered the rotisserie chicken and clam chowder. Boy was I wrong, best rotisserie chicken I've ever had, as well as the clam chowder. Location is great. It has a good road appeal. Decor and fixtures are decidedly coastal and done in good taste. It's name says it all: it's near the ocean with a "see thru" kitchen and a food establishment next, in that order. Food is excellent and quite generous portion- wise. They're not skimping on anything....white linen and upgraded flat ware, etc. it's 16-seater table is a great feature. We had the Caesar's salad, Cuban and Tri tip sandwiches with the Red slaw and iced tea. The tri tip is a bit spicy (for others) but I generally love spicier foods. So no deductions there. But for a lunch menu it's a bit pricey but the service is friendly and cosmopolitan and not "beachy". Parking is tiny for out of state residents but if you're Californian -- it's adequate. All in all it's a great and a comfortable establishment. read more

If there was a 6-star option, I'd be all over it. Talk about delicious!! As the weather gets colder, soups and stews are my go-to and this tortilla soup was excellent! So simple, but so good. The creaminess and cheesiness of this soup took me away, and then finish with tender chicken deliciousness and crunchy tortilla strips, it was a texture dream. If you go to a restaurant and a simple chicken tortilla soup has you scraping the bowl and begging for more, you've come to the right place, and that's just the cherry on top of other fabulous items we enjoyed that night! read more
