I was drawn to the numerous street signs and license plates that were strewn throughout. Thankfully, the weather was cooperative enough. I did have a chance to check the interior. While virtually pitch black, I was able to see some pinball machines and a pool table. On a normal day, the place is likely buzzing. If the patio presented itself as a place for tailgates and barbecues then the inside was a badass combination of dive bar, honky tonk, and punk rock club. And because I don't drink alcohol, I settled on a Mexican Coke, which was a decent $3.25. When I took my first sip, I was taken back to the summers of my youth when I went home to the Philippines after the school year. The opening of the bottle left a bit of a weird taste in my mouth so I decided to pour the rest in a complimentary plastic cup. And Coke - no matter what flavor it is - tastes better in a plastic cup, but that's a different story for another day. As for the staff, everyone from Becca to Jeremy is pretty cool. Even those who served me the Coke were down-to-Earth. They didn't ask me for ID. *Laughs* But seriously, Eighteen Ten Ojeman is a great place to pull up to in Spring Branch after you have some legit Korean BBQ, which the area is known for.

A group of nine coworkers and I went to Bar Bludorn for happy hour on a Thursday…read more We had a reservation for eight, but they were able to quickly accommodate an additional person, which we appreciated. Since our work schedules didn't allow us to get there earlier enough to sit at the bar, we booked for 5 p.m., right as dinner service started. We were really there to enjoy happy hour: cocktails, wine and a few bar bites rather than a full dinner. That seemed to cause a little confusion. When our server asked about dinner, we explained that we were just going to hang out, drink and snack. Almost immediately, all of the menus were taken and the dessert menu appeared, which felt a little awkward considering we had barely gotten started. There were also some service quirks throughout the evening. Our server had very animated hand gestures and body language when pouring drinks and setting things down. Almost a little too theatrical for the setting. It's not a fine-dining restaurant, so some of the formal flourishes felt unnecessary. She also missed a couple of things. I ordered a sidecar alongside my first dirty gin martini, but the sidecar didn't arrive until my second martini. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. The drinks themselves were solid. I had two Condesa gin martinis, both super dirty and bruised or skating (AKA lots of little ice chips). I also appreciated that the blue cheese olives are hand-stuffed. For food, I ordered the country ham beignets, which were cute little bites, plus one fried oyster and one baked oyster. The baked oyster was very flavorful, and the presentation with the oysters nestled among the rocks was really nice. Unfortunately, the fried oyster was almost entirely batter and was so overcooked that the oyster itself was chewy enough that I couldn't finish it. Thankfully, I only ordered one. I do like that you can mix and match the oyster preparations, though, and that they're priced per oyster: $2 each regardless of the style (raw, baked, fried). There was live music, and the restaurant got surprisingly packed for a weekday, which made it pretty loud while we there. That's understandable given how busy it became, but it did make conversation a little harder with a larger group. Still, I'd consider the overall experience a good one. Bar Bludorn is already a go-to, and one slightly overcooked oyster and some over-the-top service quirks certainly aren't enough to keep me away.
