I walked in with 1 heel to repair and it was done in 5mins for $10! Superb service. I was impressed with how fast and efficient it was.

However, when I returned two weeks later, nothing had been done. She promised that if I came back the next day, my items would be ready, but that turned out to be untrue. Once again, she provided excuses for the delay and advised me to call before my next visit. When I called, the owner's son answered the phone and abruptly hung up while yelling for the staff member to take the call. When she finally answered, my items were still not ready. The following day, I went in again to retrieve my belongings, only to find they were still not available. I requested a refund of my deposit, and I had to assist her in locating my items, which were scattered throughout their disorganized shop. The owner was present during this encounter, and when I explained the situation to him, he was not particularly helpful.

When I started calling to check in, I was repeatedly told they'd "call me back," but I never received a single follow-up. Over several calls, I got conflicting answers -- first that they didn't know where my shoes were, then that they'd been found, and later that parts might need to be ordered. None of that ever happened. When I tried to get clarification, the staff were rude, condescending, and completely unaccountable. They blamed me for "missing their calls" or even claimed they had "never received" my calls, instead of taking responsibility or offering a real explanation. I double checked my received calls and hadn't received anything from them, so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and asked if they had my number written down correctly, which they did. After a month and a half of this back-and-forth, I told them I'd come pick up the shoes myself if no progress was being made. I was again promised a call the next morning, which never came after I had waited two days. When I finally drove 45 minutes each way to retrieve them, I found that the shoes hadn't been touched at all -- not even disassembled. This experience wasted three hours of driving and a lot of time and patience. I understand delays happen, but the lack of honesty, accountability, and professionalism made this one of the most frustrating customer experiences I've ever had. I wouldn't have had any issues if they had taken accoutnability or communicated what was going on, I really wanted to support a local business. But it seems that I'll have to ship my shoes off to someone else to get them done, a month and a half of waiting with no progress or updates is a little ridiculous to me.

However, I want to flag a pricing issue for others. Before bringing in the items, I called and was quoted approximately $7-$10 per pair. At drop-off, the pricing presented was $22-$30 per pair. I raised the discrepancy immediately, but was told the prior quote was incorrect and no adjustment or accommodation was offered. I proceeded given the number of items already in hand, but followed up again afterward and was not able to reach a resolution. If you plan to use this shop, I would strongly recommend confirming pricing in writing before proceeding, particularly for multiple items. Sharing this so others can make informed decisions.

He and the woman behind the counter were trading news. Finally, they acknowledged me, took a very quick look at what I wanted done, said it would cost $200+, and indicated it likely wasn't worth me paying to have it fixed since it would cost the same as a new suitcase. I needed a complete wheel replacement and asked about them fixing the collapsible handle that had started getting stuck. The cost for just the handle, oh my! I really appreciate that they didn't waste more than five minutes of my time. I didn't feel like they wanted any of my business though.

I called a number of local shoe repair places and Clarke's was the first one to answer that had weekend hours so I opted to give them a try. Initially, I dropped off the shoe and was told I would get a call with an estimate. I dropped them off on a Saturday and had heard nothing by the following Sunday so I reached out via Facebook messenger and left my number. I was called back by Farrell, the owner, and given a quote, a time estimate and an option to pay via PayPal (they don't do credit cards). Once that was all squared away, Clarke's went to work on my shoe. When it was finished Farrell called me to let me know I could pick it up and explained a little about what he did to the shoe. While Bel Air is a bit of a drive for me, the customer service and quality of the work that Clarke's provided means I will be returning in the future.
