There was a hanging nail on the shelf and it scratched me. The bartender came and literally hammered it in. Service took forever to grab the bill that we almost walked out. Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing. The fish tacos were incredibly bland. They tasted like almost nothing--no noticeable salt, spices, or seasoning--and there wasn't even a sauce on the side to add flavor. The ceviche wasn't much better. The shrimp and octopus tasted fresh, but the sauce had an overpowering smoky flavor that felt out of place and overwhelmed the seafood. The skirt steak fajitas were the best of the three dishes. The steak was well seasoned, but it was also quite tough. For nearly $70 for three items, I expected much better quality and flavor. I do plan to give El Asadero another chance and will update my review after dining in, although there really shouldn't be a difference in food quality between eating in the restaurant and ordering takeout. Overall, this was a disappointing experience.

4.5 Yep, you're…read moreeating in a gas station. When I was coming up with a list of things to do on a sunny Monday in late spring, eating at a gas station was not high on the list. But as I plotted and planned, the birria tacos kept coming to the fore. I suppose my lunch at a gas station was inevitable. And I'm glad it was. Admittedly, I was a bit off by the prices. Again: gas station. But I suppose the Mid-Atlantic isn't the South and things are going to cost what they cost. But $3.75 for a soda and $16 for tacos was a bit of a hard sell. And then I ate them. The chicken birria* taco order came in an oversized four-pack bursting with ingredients, flavor and a large side of consomme. Between the seasoned chicken, cheese, onions, cilantro, pan-fried fatty goodness, and crunch of the shell, I was deep in food-like.** These were not street tacos. These were hefty, large-hand sized, meaty, heavy talk pieces that were worth the price, regardless of location. You get your money's worth at MRT. I ate my bounty in the station. The owner (?) was nice, chill and about his business. He welcomed me in, answered questions and made sure that I was happy with my food before I took the first bite. Between the smell and presentation, how could I not be? This may be a gas station but you'll get your food with restaurant sensibilities. The soda was over-priced, though. *Is that really a thing? **Food love is hard to come by.
