Never knew this dish was named after a US soldier trying for the first time and exclaiming, MAN is this GUD! haha seriously. it's on wikipedia anyway, back to the dish. creamy mashed plantain sets the base for this dish. sunny side up eggs, deep fried cheese, and 2 Dominican slices complete this dish. pickled red onions are sour and cut the heaviness of the mangu and salami which I like. this was my first time trying mangú and I will definitely have it again in the future.

This food was amazing!! I ordered the empanada trio (beef, chicken & cheese) The beef and the chicken ones were absolutely amazing. I did not care for the cheese one, but the other ones were probably the best empanadas I've ever had! I also ordered the Roasted chicken (see picture) and it was really good. My only complaint was that there was sooooo much rice, and very little beans. Overall the food was awesome and I'll definitely get food from here again. I'm very surprised there aren't more help reviews, because they deserve more good reviews!

I love their roasted chicken with yellow rice. Great beef empanadas and I always ask for extra green salsa.

All the menus are tablets, and you can switch between English and Spanish. Frustratingly, there was no Cuban sandwich available on the dinner menu. We got an appetizer sampler to start. Most of it was fried foods, so it was decent. For an entree, I got the fish filet in garlic sauce. The fish was tender and the sauce was flavorful. I also tried the oxtail. Some of them were tender and other pieces were quite chewy. To finish the meal, I ordered a cortadito but got a cortado instead. You'd think a Cuban restaurant would know the difference.

The parking lot was packed so I expected there to be a wait but was pleasantly surprised when our party of 5 (plus a baby!) was seated right away. The place is lively and a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There's a stage/dance floor in the middle so I can imagine it can turn kind of clubby later in the night. Interestingly, the menus are all tablets and while really cool at first, it got annoying when a couple of our menus started to glitch. High tech but also leaves more room for failure. The service was friendly though and decently quick. We ordered a few appetizers and they came out in a reasonable amount of time. We got a sampler, croquettas, and a tamal. Everything tasted great so I had high hopes for our entrees. I went with the Mother's Day Special Relleno (stuffed) Salmon. It was a little overcooked but still really tasty. I believe it was stuffed with some crab meat and cheese. I also really liked the sauce that covered it. My dad got oxtail and it was seasoned very well but the oxtail pieces were cooked inconsistently. Some were soft and came off the bone very easily while others were tough to the point I had to use my hands to gnaw the meat off the bone. Everyone else's dishes were pretty good too. All in all La Havana 59 seems like a solid Cuban spot. I'd come back.

Owner Pablo and his staff introduced me to five of the most popular items on the menu. Empanadas: These Argentinian turnovers come in five flavors: Beef, Chicken, Caprese, Spinach, Ham & Cheese. Have one or have them all; the choice is yours! Buenos Aires Salad: This may be an appetizer, but this salad practically eats like a meal. My favorite toppings were the avocado and shrimp. I don't have an acquired taste for hard boiled eggs; but everything else was perfect. Argentinian Grill for Two: Although this barbecue is meant for two, it can easily serve three people. This carnivorous entrée is filled with all of your favorite proteins including skirt steak, blood sausage, Argentinian sausage, and beef ribs. All meats are cooked with wooden charcoal so it has that authentic hint of wooden flavor. As a bonus, this entrée is served on a table grill with charcoal. Grilled Sea Food With Lobster: You won't need to travel down the shore for seafood when you explore this dish. It has all of your favorite dishes from under the sea. Seafood Mix With Rice: Here is a variation of the previous entrée except everything is served over a heaping pile of yellow rice. If you are fan of soccer, this is definitely a perfect hang out spot. The walls are adorned with beautiful wall art and souvenirs praising the highly appreciated international sport. It was a pleasure exploring Argentinian cuisine in this fine dining establishment. #choripan #choripanrodizio #hackensacknj #seafoodmix #grilledseafood #argentiniangrill #empanadas #buenosairessalad #foodstagram #njfoodie #localbusiness

Sofrito is a versatile, aromatic purée of tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, onions, and garlic, which is the foundation of just about every Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Dominican soup, stew, or sauce. Located on busy Teaneck Road in Teaneck, this husband/wife duo, with the husband being Cuban and the wife Puerto Rican, operates the hidden gem that translates from the Spanish meaning "my roots." The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant for Saturday dinner. Upon arrival at Mis Raices, a bigger location after 3 years for some of us, my partner, our friends, and I got a table by the window immediately inside a cozy island vibe filled with the wonderful smell of the home-style food, the beautiful souvenirs of Puerto Rico and Cuba, and the vibrant salsa music. The menu has been expanded since our last visit, so come hungry! For appetizers, we decided on the Croqueta De Jamón, Croqueta De Pollo, and Guava Empanada. As a main meal, we opted for Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken with Rice), Pechuga De Pollo (Chicken Breast) A La Plancha with Salad, Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef) with Arroz Amarillo y Frijoles Negroes, and Oxtail/Rabo Encendido with Arroz con Gandules. Complimentary toasted garlic bread started our meal. The meal was beautifully presented. The flavors were tastefully delicious and pretty consistent, being rich and authentic. The portion was just right with the price very reasonable, and it's a BYOB. The owners, Ana and Eddie, and their staff make us feel welcome and are accommodating. We can continue to recommend this place.
