    Pork chop with potato pancake
    Chuck K.

Had a really nice dinner here and enjoyed all about it. Got a table without problem, which during busy Peaks Island summers is not always guaranteed. We shared a house salad which had an unexpected oriental dressing on it. Nice flavor we both enjoyed, just different than anticipated. Husband got the pork chop topped with bacon jam and it was beautifully finished. The potato pancake was a lovely accompaniment to the chop. I had the Bulgogi Bowl and enjoyed it. Would have benefited from a bit more spice, but nice flavors in the meal. Ambiance is great, price was just under $100 for the two with one beer.

Great food and staff! Ordered a scallop appetizer that was on the list of specials. It was delicious. Also ordered the Beef Bulgogi bowl, which was also wonderful. Good place for small groups.

I haven't been here in years, but we stumbled in yesterday after drinking wine on a deck overlooking the ocean and it was heavenly. My companions had the almond crusted haddock and a meat bowl, I enjoyed the shrimp scampi. It was really very good, maybe a bit heavy with the sun-dried tomatoes but awesome. We washed it all down with a fabulous wine and chased our great lunch with a piece of homemade Boston Cream pie! I cannot wait to go back and try additional dishes. Our waiter, Jack, was wonderful, prices are very reasonable.

Have to update my review for this spot after spending two nights on the island and eating here twice. The food was AWESOME this time. We have various dishes, with my wife having perfectly cooked salmon and on our final dinner there I had the Beef Bulgogi, which rocked, think Asian fusion. Additionally, the margarita was excellent. The service was great, very attentive, and the prices seemed much more reasonable this time around. I will 100% come back here

Let me start off by saying that coming to Peaks Island during the off season was not the best idea. We didn't realize that the whole island was pretty much shut down, save for a few businesses that were open. The Cockeyed Gull being one of them. It was a particularly cold and blustery day on the island. Trying our hardest to find some respite from the cold, we walked into the grocery store that was next door and grabbed some coffees, not realizing this spot was open. They were cool about us bringing in our coffee. I love the view from here. Nice little space to keep warm while watching the winds out on the water. The waitress who served us was super nice. She knew we were sitting around to kill time so she was fine with us hanging out. We ordered the crab cakes as a starter. This was really good! Hubs got the clam chowder which he liked - I loved the shrimp tacos!! The shrimp were very fresh and plump. I got a Murphy's to drink while waiting around. We also managed to squeeze in dessert. The waitress recommended the carrot cake. It was super delicious!! This place definitely deserves 5 stars.

This restaurant has terrible service and a very rude staff. We arrived and were greeted by a rude, incompetent, apathetic host. After limping down to the restaurant on a sprained knee, I asked for a table and he said he was "full" for the night, but when we looked inside there were over 10 completely empty tables inside and out. We asked why it was empty and he said oh they're coming in the next 30 minutes. Unless 100 people were about to show up, he was about to do no business tonight. The man didn't even offer takeout or for us to make a reservation for the next day. If I could give this dump 0 stars I would. Do yourself a favor and go to island lobster company instead, they had amazing food and service. Edit: you might want to take a look at the scathing reply the owner of this restaurant sent to me accusing me of being drunk. I don't even drink which is what makes this laughable, and he also called us loud and obnoxious when we didn't say anything rude to them at all. To try to discredit my review by saying oh I never ate there so it doesn't matter is one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard. Service to me is just as important as the actual food in a dining experience. If he was as bold as he acts in private messages, he would have posted this reply for everyone to see. So I'll do him a favor and post it for him.

Wonderful experience! Great menu. We got there at 4:15, sat on the deck and stayed for sundown by 5:45. The haddock and the lobster pasta both lived up to Yelper reviews. As did the carrot cake. Jake was amazing - funny and works hard to take care of everyone be it pre-ferry or those staying on island. We will be back tom

A small restaurant on Peaks Island! What a gem it is. The view that you get by seating outside on their patio over looking the island is breath taking. I wish I took pictures. But seating there on a nice summer day with a glass of wine and watching the sunset with your special someone nothing can beat that. Their food is so amazingly good and the lamb pops was awesome. I'm never a fan of lamb because it's usually too gamey for me but not here. You can't even taste it at all it melts right in your mouth.

Stop by for a pint or two and a tapa..crab cake was spot on!

Great stop for a nice cold beer. Always a great go to spot. Family owned and island proud!

Had a delightful dinner last night with my wife. We live on Peaks close to this restaurant, and meals here are always a treat. The owner is Korean, and the occasional Korean specialties on her menu are especially welcome. I can't remember a mediocre or bad meal here -- ever. Everything about our experience was great -- food, service, view, and more. It began to get a bit chilly sitting out on their perfect deck, but, how much can we ask for -- we're in Maine! Highly recommended!

We liked it more than Scales which I think might be a less popular opinion. The ambiance was very rustic and cozy. It did feel a little cramped and the first table they sat us at was in the middle of a bunch of other tables and I really don't think it would be a nice table for anyone. Thankfully they moved us to a corner/booth which was very nice of them. Even in the corner it was still a little cramped which is my reason for not giving it 5 stars. The pasta dish with lobster in a red sauce was divine. Full of other seafood in addition to the lobster like mussels and clams too. It was definitely messy but the flavor was fantastic. Tons of garlic which we love. The octopus appetizer was also delicious. Very charred which normally I wouldn't like but it worked very well with this dish. We also got hummus which was a special appetizer. It was ok- not very memorable. The desserts didn't appeal to us (maybe we were just too full). Would love to return if we find ourselves back in Portland!

It gave the entire evening that authentic, working-harbor Portland feel while still feeling polished and comfortable. We started with a crisp, refreshing local Belgian wheat beer that was light, slightly citrusy, and an ideal match for the seafood-heavy meal ahead. For appetizers, the grilled octopus was excellent -- tender with a proper char, beautifully seasoned, and full of flavor. It came with pommes dauphine, pine nut and espelette vinaigrette, and garlic whip. There was a light touch of oiliness toward the end of the plate (typical with generous finishing oil), but it didn't detract from what was otherwise a very well-executed dish. The dozen raw oysters were exceptional. All three varieties were local Maine and served ice-cold: Fare Well (Newcastle), Nautical Sisters (Yarmouth), and Weskeag (South Thomaston). I had them with just the mignonette and was rewarded with clean, sweet, briny flavor. These were some of the freshest, highest-quality oysters I've had in Portland. The main courses were the real stars. The Stuffed Lobster Frites was outstanding. The lobster was sweet and perfectly cooked, the claws were pre-cracked for easy access, and the tail was cleanly split with a buttery, herby breadcrumb crust that added excellent crunch and texture. It was accompanied by scallop mousseline and dijonnaise. This is a premium dish, but the quality and generous portion made it feel worth it. Equally impressive was the seared scallops, served in a cast-iron skillet. The scallops had a beautiful golden crust and were cooked exactly right -- sweet and tender. They were paired with crisp corn, applewood-smoked bacon, kale, and roasted peppers in a light, well-balanced cream sauce. This dish avoided the common issue of being overly salty. Every bite offered a nice variety of textures and flavors, and the cast-iron kept everything hot throughout the course. It was precise, thoughtful cooking. We finished with the Chocolate Silk Pie*, which was rich, silky, and deeply satisfying with lovely hazelnut undertones and a crunchy chocolate-hazelnut topping. The presentation was beautiful, and it made for a perfect ending. Service was attentive and professional without feeling rushed or intrusive. The pacing between courses was ideal. Bottom line: If you're serious about high-quality Maine seafood, Scales is delivering at a very high level right now. The ingredients are pristine, the execution is precise, and the waterfront setting (especially from a window seat) adds real character. This was easily one of the best meals I've had in Portland. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommended for seafood enthusiasts, special occasions, or anyone who appreciates a restaurant that respects its local ingredients.

I would highly recommend multiple rounds of oysters -- the first to try one of each and figure out which varieties you prefer, the second to get more of the ones you like, and the last to go all in on your favorite. They've got a varied selection that will suit various tastes, whether you favor a large creamy oyster, a small briny guy, or somewhere in between. All from Maine, which made me feel better about having oysters in a non-ber month. The oysters here are top notch, and the shuckers are, too. Not a single speck of shell in there! I love oysters, and this was my paradise. The non oyster items are also worth trying, so if you have a friend who isn't into oysters, there's something here for them, too.
