Have been many times, but today was a little different. My mom is visiting and she is elderly and has mobility challenges. The stairs are a pretty big flight to get up for an elderly person, but the railings are sturdy and available on both sides of the wide staircase, so a person can only use one railing at a time. Today was also different because for the first time ever, a seagull stole a fried clam from my tray while I was walking from picking up my food to a table to sit down. I was about ten steps away from the building and it swooped in and grabbed a fried clam! I can't believe I didn't drop the tray. It happened very fast. We ate the fried clams anyway. Some seagulls claw germs never hurt anyone? Half the red picnic tables were freshly painted. The other half were blocked off with a wet paint sign. The food (lobster rolls and fried clams) and the view (rocks, ocean and rolling waves) were spectacular as ever. read more

This place is at par with most of them but I didn't find their food to be exceptional - the lobster rolls were good; the haddock plate came with the fish deep fried, which may be a popular way for fish but not exactly my taste. Parries were overly sweet - so sweet that I could only took one bite. But the VIEW here is unlike most, or perhaps all, the other restaurants! It is right on the cliff and offers expansive views of the ocean! Dining room is very small; outdoor is very nice if and when weather permits. It was very windy the day I went. I tried The Lobster Shack after vising the Portland Head Light. It's a little bit of a drive, but offered some beautiful views and a place to grab some lobster rolls. The views from the Lobster Shack are incredible. It's a great place to watch the waves crash with lots of outdoor tables. If you'd prefer you can also sit inside in their seating area and watch the view from one of the windows. They have standard lobster pound menu with seafood, lobster, lobster rolls, and even some non-sea food and vegetarian options. I tried their lobster roll and clam chowder. The food was solid, but it was definitely no frills. It was tasty, but not the most delicious lobster roll that I've ever had. As a heads up, the parking lot can get quite hectic here with limited spots, and the line can be quite long. Be ready to be patient, but overall the staff does a good job of trying to get your food out quickly and placing orders quickly. All in all, the food is decent, but the real star of the show is the unmatched views of the coast. read more

Keep in mind you can call ahead and pick up which will make it much faster, but there is no cell service once you get there, so make sure to call on the way over. Prices are a bit high for the portion sizes, but the food is good and satisfying. Great place to bring kids. They have desserts as well. You can BYOB. Bathrooms available inside. read more

The restaurant has beautiful views of the ocean and a lighthouse nearby with a gift shop on site. The parking can be difficult especially during the busy eating hours due to small space. The food overall was good but wish there were more options for people with food allergies, which is a reason I docked a star. A family member from Maine said the shack was not to be missed for views and New England food. We already ate a lobster roll earlier in the day so opted for a Haddock place served with fries slaw and biscuit. We also order some onion rings. The onion rings were solid, thin rings in light batter. The slaw delicious , wanted to ask about a "secret" ingredient due to a fruity sweetness. The wife guessed pineapple juice which seemed about right. The fries were dipped in cocktail sauce which was novel and fun. Great food, high prices. I enjoyed a lovely weekend with my mother in Maine and checked out Cape Elizabeth and checked out The Lobster Shack. For fried clams and a lobster roll(which runs surprisingly small!), it cost $70.38. A price that I feel is a bit high, especially with Maine Lobster running $8.99/lb at Hannaford. That said, the lobster was perfectly cooked, and instead of putting only claws in the roll, it had tender tail meat. It took about 15 minutes for my meal to be ready and before my number was called. Parking can be a challenge at the Loster Shack, but a little patience and kindness pays off. I have been coming here for close to 20 years and never previoulsy saw so many people with dogs taking up the outdoor picnic tables (cruel for the dogs, and annoying for those who have allergies or fear or just do not think it's appropriate for a non service animal to be hanging out at an eating establishment-even outside). This is very off putting and several dogs aggressively growled and barked at other dogs and passerbys. Changes the experience. The Lobster Shack is still my favorite place in all of Maine for lobster rolls and more, with stunning views of the ocean and waves, the rocky shore, cooling sea winds, and the Cape Elizabeth lighthouse in view (privately owned). The only reason to come back here would be for the view and the dessert, but otherwise, the food was mediocre at best. The lobster was gummy and the bread was extremely disappointing. I am glad I asked for the mayo on the side because they put a huge dollop of it on top and everyone agreed it was way too much. You only end up tasting mayo and bread. It doesn't seem like much effort was put into the rolls. A few simple improvements would be fixing the mayo to lobster ratio and at least toasting the bun on both sides with butter. On a positive note, one of the people in my party ordered the chicken tenders and enjoyed them! We also tried the pie which was DELICIOUS!! The view and environment are among the best of any place you can eat anywhere. The food is pretty good. If you've been to one place like this in Maine, you;ve been to all of them. This is THE place my friend couldn't wait to bring me to on my first trip to Maine however she made it clear it was because of the views and not that it's her favorite lobster. I waited so long so I was very hungry and wanted to try a variety so I asked for a warm lobster roll with butter and a cold roll with light mayo. The kid at the register charged me for a third roll so he started over and when he did he put in the incorrect order. After some back-and-forth I got the warm roll and the cold roll I got had a scoop of mayo on top, not mixed in. I had never seen this before and asked the woman what it's about and she said I can mix in as much as I want. For $25 a roll I shouldn't have to make my own. What a turn off! I took it outside and had a seat over the outstandingly stunning view. The warm roll was good but not at all as good as I expected and with the cold roll the lobster was a bit overcooked and chewy.
