I've driven past this coffee shop countless times and, since it's so close to home, I finally decided to stop in and give it a try. The space itself is really cute, welcoming, and has a cozy atmosphere, so I was excited to see what the coffee had to offer. Unfortunately, the coffee was pretty underwhelming, especially for the price. Having tried coffee shops throughout DC, Northern Virginia, and Montgomery County, I'm used to paying similar prices for specialty coffee. Here, the pricing was on par with those areas, but the coffee itself didn't justify the cost. Coco & Friends is a delightful cafe & bakery. I've ridden past Coco & Friends many times, so it was nice to finally try it out. As soon as you walk in, you are surrounded by warm tones and a calm, relaxing atmosphere. It's pretty quiet, so it would be a great place to study or work, with plenty of seating and electrical outlets available The staff were friendly and helpful, answering any questions I had. They have a pretty good selection of drinks as well as sandwiches, pizzas, pastries and various bread items. I selected an iced Coco's London Earl Grey Milk Tea (a London Fog) and an egg & cheese breakfast sandwich on fresh-baked ciabatta. The staff told us that all of the sourdough-based breads are baked on the premises daily, and it shows. The ciabatta was soft, airy and delicious. I really enjoyed the Earl Grey Milk tea. All in all, this is a wonderful new addition to the Hagerstown area, and I hope it continues to grow and flourish in the future. read more

I have ordered food online from this great cafe via their local delivery service several times since this fine cafe opened, and have been incredibly happy with the food that I received each time. In fact, I order all items in multiples of 3 to 6 items (or more) each so that I have extras to store in my deep freezers (well, I do live out in the mountains in a rural area...) for future meals. The reasons why I repeatedly order food from this cafe, particularly when I have the option of ordering food from any of well over one hundred local restaurants via any of the large meal delivery services, are as follows: -- The owner and chief chef, Zara, has for the past several years operated an excellent local cottage industry bakery that has offered all-natural sourdough breads and related sourdough baked goods from which I have ordered sourdough breads many times. I have always been very happy with the excellent quality of the sourdough bread items and deserts that her Ancient Sourdough bakery offered. -- I was very happy when I learned a few months ago that the same chef, Zara, would be opening a cafe in the area that would offer most of the same excellent sourddough products that had previously been offered by her cottage sourdough bakery, along with many new all-natural food items such as sourdough breakfast sandwiches, sourdough lunch sandwiches, sourdough dinner sandwiches, sourdough flatbreads, sourdough pizza, and some dessert items as well. -- Once I had tasted the items (which included some breakfast sandwiches, flatbreads, and pizza) from my first online order for delivery from Coco and Friends Coffee, I was so impressed with the quality that I almost immediately placed repeat orders in order not only try some new items, but to give me "extras" of each item to store in my deep freezers (which are an essential part of life when you live out in the mountains) for use in future meals. -- One of the things that has always impressed me with the food items from Zara's kitchens is that all products are all-natural and free of chemical additives. So, to this day, her Coco and Friends Coffee cafe is perhaps the only restaurant/kitchen in Frederick County and Washington County from which I can order, for delivery, breakfast and lunch sandwiches where the sausage and bacon products, and any deli meats (such as cold cuts or corned beef (ahhh... Reubens!) are all-natural and are totally free of added nitrates, nitrites, preservatives, and MSG. And, all of the breads in her sandwich offerings are sourdough, to boot, and, for cooking oil, her products use only extra virgin olive oil ! I really want to like this cafe/bakery and patronize it as a regular but I did a pick up order for bread recently and was not impressed. While the physical shop is very welcoming and offers a relaxing atmosphere, the price for a drip coffee is over $5 and it's not even organic because I asked the cashier. Next, is the issue I had with the sourdough breads. I really wanted to like my loaves and this be my go to bakery because the owner's vision and how she got started sounded so touching and relatable, but the breads are not good. I'm sorry but as a home baker, my loaves come out better. The problem is that my loaves were both undercooked, dense, and tasted unsalted. Also, they put way too many raisins in the raisin loaf and they're all clumped in one side of the loaf so that when you slice it, the raisins come tumbling out because they're not uniformly dispersed. The ciabatta loaf needed salt desperately and as I mentioned before, both loaves were underbaked. My mom also bought loaves of bread from here and she too said that there's something off with the way these breads are being baked. For the prices being charged I can not recommend people go here but if you just have money to burn and like a nice atmosphere then the ambiance in the bakery/cafe is definitely pleasant and inviting, and the customer service is very nice as well. read more

I really want to support local, women owned businesses, so a friend and I went in for lunch. The interior is nice, although it was a bit difficult to lower ourselves into the short chairs at a small table only about 2 ft off the ground. It does not seem to be a place for lunch conversation, rather maybe one person having a coffee in peace and quiet. I was surprised that they did not offer cold beverages, such as iced tea. I guess coffee is their main beverage, but if a person does not want coffee, there is little else. The biggest shock is the prices; we thought the prices were Very Expensive. $13.00 for the Chicken Pesto that had very little inside the bread. I kept opening the sandwich to see if anything was inside.....a tiny shred of lettuce leaf, a small thin slice of tomato, not enough cheese to taste, and.....was there chicken? For $13.00 I expected a stuffed sandwich. We chose this sandwich because others were more expensive. $17.00, for example. Seriously? We do not plan to go back. I hope they do well, but there are a few other places that are casual and friendly with nice staff that have so many more offerings with much lower prices. We will go to Safron or Rooster Moon from now on, two of our favorite lunch places. Safron has great sandwiches and salads and delicious desserts for half the cost of Coco. Rooster has a great vibe, outdoor seating, lots of food on the menu, and fabulous cold and hot drink choices. Coco is no competition for either of them. read more
