    Sancocho
    Art C.

We had a delicious but difficult to eat soup at Coco's Bistro last night. The soup, or stew, was called Sancocho and was a special being offered. This is an order at a counter they call your name when your food is ready sort of place. Once it was obvious we didn't know what to eat as we stared at the overhead menu board, our order taker turned on the charm and sold us on this soup, made with short ribs. We also got a set of three Empanadas, which were described as being small size. I thought the soup broth was delicious, rich in flavor. Using a plastic soup spoon for eating larger items showed I didn't know how to eat this particular popular Latin dish. I finally gave up and started using my hands to separate meat from excess fat and bone, and I have no idea how else you can eat the corn still on the cob without just picking it up. The Empanadas were indeed small and were mostly thick pastry. We liked the place with its bright white faux brick walls and food photos. Nice background music played. It's a small place, I counted 5 tables and a few more seats facing out to the parking lot. Everyone was friendly.

The customer service was excellent, and the food was absolutely amazing. The pabellón and the patacón were delicious, there are no words to describe how good everything was. Everything was cooked to perfection, just the way it should be, the Venezuelan way. I feel so proud to see Venezuelans representing our country's food and showcasing it at such a high level. This is a must-stop place in Sarasota. I highly recommend it!!

Arepa Pabellon - no black beans

Always looking for some good Latin food wherever I go. This time around I had a taste for Venezuelan. Found this place, & I knew it was a definite spot we just had to check out. Walking in I could tell we hadn't been either. Go straight to the counter and you will find handy menus as well as it on their wall above. I took the menu and we went for our usuals - a cachapa - folded corn pancake with massive amounts of two cheeses, & added shredded chicken. Second was an arepa pabellon - shredded steak, sweet plantain, shredded cheese, & no black bean. We split both of these but my fave was th arepa while my husband's fave was the cachapa. I love the sweet plantain with my arepa to balance off the salty of the shredded steak. I also asked for a side of garlic sauce that makes it over the top good. My husband loved the cachapa. It's a bit sweeter bc it's a corn pancake. He loves all the cheese which is way too much for me. Inside is thick white Venezuelan Xheese, while on the top is shredded cheese and Mayo. Inside is also additional shredded chicken which is extra. Service is simple, and nice. If you speak Spanish that's good, if not, just point. Space is clean and they have tables and chairs inside and outside. Good spot in Sarasota for a Venezuelan Fix!

    Pabellón arepa - soooooo good!

This place is wonderful. The decor inside is minimal but very clean and inviting. The staff were warm, inviting and helpful too! I got the Pabellón arepa and I am a big fan. It's not like any arepa that I've ever had before. They are served more like a sandwich with two cakes rather than a stuffed street style. At first I thought it was a little pricey for one arepa, but when I got it, it all made sense. It's more like almost two arepas worth of food. The sweet fried plantains against the salty savory beef and cheese was just phenomenal. I enjoyed every bite and would love to try another type while on my trip down here. They do have soda by the can (Coke products) for $2.50, also some little single serve wines and beer in the cold case too. Looks like there is maybe a dessert of some sort in there as well but I did not get one this time. My only bummer is that there's no coffee here - will have to try somewhere else for that!

Amazing place, amazing food and amazing people! If you want something really tasty... this is the place! Nice and clean. I promise you won't regret it.

Cute little Venezuelan cafe, the coffee is REALLY strong lol but these arepas were delicious. Very messy so make sure you grab lots of napkins bc they were super juicy. The cafe is very clean and the staff was super friendly and very informative. Enjoyed our morning and would love to come back and try something else they have. Service was fast as well.

I tried the cacha pas today and my personal opinion about the food is: The cheese was very salty and the corn cachapa need to more tender

And the portions are HUGE. We had a reservation which was well used as it was pretty packed. We sat inside. It was pretty warm inside, though, from the heat so just be prepared for that. We got a pitcher of sangria and they make it right beside the table. It was SO good. Wow. Each person got about 1/4 a loaf of warm bread. They did say it was cuban bread but it wasn't really. But hey the bread was good. We got their famous salad to try (one side order for 2 people to split and one person got it as their entree) and it was very good. They also make that table side. For our meals, we got the lechón, salad, and fish. The portions were HUGE. So much pork. It came with great tasing yucca, beans, and plantains too. For desert, we got the guava pastry and the natilla. The guava pastry was actually kind of amazing. Warm and so so good. The natilla was good but it was closer to a crème brûlée. It was still good, though. I'm excited to go to another (closer) location of theirs again. It was really such good food. We were also able to take our leftovers with us since they gave us so much food. The lechón plate is definitely splittable.

We were visiting Sarasota and stopped in to grab some late dinner to go. (Para Levar... my tiny bit of Spanish!). Luckily, my partner is fluent and it helps a lot whenever my Español es muy mal. We checked out the reviews and as a long time Yelper my experience told me that some of the bad reviews were not something we would worry about. It's really interesting considering the place is really authentic. Everything we had was delicious. The only tiny thing I would change is a little less garlic in the mojo on the boiled yuca but that's a personal preference and most people would probably love it! I'd ask for it on the side next time. They have a special lunch and dinner every day and I got the special for $9.99. Picadillo with 2 sides (I got boiled yuca and black beans). I added some maduros. My partner got pork chops with 3 sides. Salad, morro rice, and maduros. He also got a tamarind juice which is one of his favorites. While we waited they brought us both a cup of homemade chicken soup. It was delicious. The vibe is so Latin and that's a compliment. I could feel the love and felt so welcome. It was like hanging out at a family party with yummy food. They had karaoke with everyone singing Latin tunes. I barely understood a word but loved it and they had some really good vocalists! The food was delicious! We couldn't finish it all. I had lots of green olives in my picadillo! If we lived in this area we would be eating here every week or several times a week! I only passed on the Mofongo because I was worried I'd fill up fast and didn't want to waste so much food. If I were here a few more days, I'd be going back to try it. If I come back to Sarasota, I'm adding them to my must visit list! Thank you Latin Quarters' staff and the fun patrons for helping make my last night in Sarasota a lovely one!

The food in the bag is organized and not a mess but everything is bagged with care. The service is some of the best to be had. The employees work like crazy and from what I have researched about employment sigma isn't as Culver like with part time positions being the only options, I think this place needs to offer more to the staff who are amazing. The facility is clean, bright, the soda machine accessible appreciated by all users (some places don't offer self serve soft drinks) . The vouchers for prizes and for custard is so fun. My mom got the ButterBurger with cheese and onion rings. She enjoyed the burger, but the onion rings definitely could have been crispier. We shared the cheese curds, which are always good, though they also could have been a bit crispier this time. We also tried the cheese dip, which was just okay and probably not something we would order again. The broccoli cheese soup was also fine, but not something I would get again.
