Best food to hit my mouth. Just trust me!!! Give it a chance. Trust me!!! And very clean

I have been going to this restaurant for years on and off. In the past month I have been more often in the area so I have stopped several times. I was quite disappointment the first time I went cause the service was mediocre at best, but u thought well, everyone had good and bad days. then I try it two more times cause I guess I was trying to convince myself it was ok and try to support a local business. every time the service was bad and the food was just ok. Today a friend, my kids and myself went there for what is going to be the last time. we waited a long time to get our drink orders, (the restauran was not even full) we order two waters, two Margarita, one pepsi and a sweet tea. after some time they bring two margaritas. several minutes passes and then bring one Peps, one sweet tea and one water, the waitress tells me, I will bring your water now. that didn't happened. she comes 10 minutes later to ask for the order, so I asked for more chips and stated "can I have my water?" she replie that it will be a while cause she was very busy in the other side and stated "yes you may have your water" I was not happy to say the least, I lost my appetite at that point. takes everyone's order and actually brings the chips in a timely manner. At th end of the meal I ask for two boxes and a to go cup. well.... 10 minutes later.... nothing! I get up and go get it myself. I also had to go and get my own check. it's not worth the hassle, bad service and treatment for an ok meal. almost across the street there is a Mexican restaurant that I did try once and I was extremely impressed! next week I might go to the new restaurant and try it once again. I hope I won't be disappointed and most definitely will write a review abut that as well. thanks and hope this helps. read more

What keeps me coming back...location, location, location. This place is literally less than one block off of I-26 at the Columbus/Tryon exit. I pass this exist come and going on my daily commute so if and when I skip lunch and am looking for an early to mid-afternoon snack on my drive back to cool, green AVL, I hit up Cocula. I despise fast food options on the interstate drive, so bravo for giving us snobs something more interesting than a Big Mac. This is a very typical Americanized Mexican restaurant, like the bazillions of others in this genre. The menu contains the typical burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, and fajitas...along with some other combinations and such and such. You have seen it all before. I cannot say that I have ever left the place with the thought "that sucked." But, I have also never left the place with the thought "that was excellent." For me, it is serviceable interstate food that I will most likely get time and again and it is my only convenient non-fast food option on my daily grind. Location, location, location!!! read more

I don't know what happened to this place- it used to be pretty good, last night was terrible. We were served stale chips for the salsa. Our water ran low and we had trouble getting refills. Our food took an extraordinary long amount of time to come. Note- they weren't very busy when we arrived. When we finally got our food it was definitely not up to the standards we were used to. We hadn't been there in about a year so it seems a lot has changed. We won't be going back. read more

Cocula Grill is by far the closest to fresh Mexican fare around these here parts. The free salsa and chips brought to your table when you order is made in house. Same with all their food. We ordered the chicken tacos, and the quesadia. Both plates were LOADED with all the fresh ingredients, much more than would fit in the shells, which have to be fresh made. You can just taste the difference. The quesadia was not just some flat bread with melted cheese, it was folded over and about 3 inches thick. Plenty of black beans come along with it. Since moving here recently, We've enjoyed three good meals at this family owned/operated grill. The shrimp tacos with sliced avocado are fresh and delicious. The chimichanga and chicken enchiladas con cream are both packed with chicken and flavor with fresh ingredients. Staff is super friendly. I've been there a couple of times with my friends, and it was really good. They have the typical Mexican food, and they bring complimentary chips and salsa as an appetizer. The food is relatively cheap, and it's good. This is a great restaurant for a meal with friends. read more

Everyone in our group loved their choice. For the most part, it is still Americanized versions of Mexican food, but excellently executed. The service rocked! The Torta Cubana is a nice variation from traditional Mexican fare. It's like a big Cuban Sandwich and absolutely delicious. read more

Pleasantly surprised! I have avoided this restaurant because the exterior decor looked a little dingy. However - on the recommendation of a colleague, we tried it. It was all about quality. The interior is scrupulously clean - the menus were easy to read and well organized (and clean as a whistle), the furniture was all well arranged and room well lit. The salsa bar had real ceramic bowls and a really good variety of salsas. We tried about four but there were many more. I had a vegetarian quesadilla that was out of this world good - vegetables cooked to perfection and clearly fresh. Even a day later, the leftovers were remarkably delicious. Husband had the Diablo and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tasty and HOT. He ate it all. Chips were fresh and tasty. Not too salty. Service was attentive but not smothering and friendly. We are so lucky to have this wonderful Mexican restaurant so close to us. Their menu is so varied that I have a hard time picking something each time. I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered so I really can't say which is best but I just had the Faijita Taco Salad YUM! so right now that's my favorite. We were very happy with the food and the service. They have a very cool salsa bar. My vegetarian wife was able to find something on the lunch menu. Overall very pleased. Bathrooms were a bit stinky, however. But that's not why we went there. We recommend this place for some good food.. read more

Cocula is so the best Mexican in the area, far better than any of the others in Landrum/Tryon/Columbus. The food just tastes fresher and they have some more authentic Mexican dishes rather than just the Americanized stuff normally offered. read more

You get a lot for your money at this place. Food pretty good too. You won't leave hungry that's for sure. Lots to choose from. Distinctly different taste from the other Mexican restaurant in town. We eat at both, no issues. Has a bar too if you want to drink. read more

This restaurant is a risky experience. I've gone here maybe 6 times. 3 of the six times I was really satisfied and happy with the food and service. But recently I have been experiencing crappy food and HORRIBLE service. I went (most recently) on a Tuesday evening with a party of 6. Our waitress had two tables to take care of and even that was too much for her. We had to ask EVERY time for refills on water, chips, queso dip, etc. My father ordered the fajitas and they were burnt to a crisp. He literally had to scrape them off the plate with his knife. We told our waitress and she had the nerve to tell US to tell the manager. Isn't that HER job?? After calling the manager over, he had the nerve to tell my father to next time, order his fajitas on a special plate because it was the sizzling plate that burned the food. My father argued back that he has had fajitas MANY times and it's not the PLATES fault for being overcooked. Needless to say, we will NOT be going back. read more
