First time eating here. After we were seated we had to wait for service. They weren't busy at all. I heard the table behind us say the same thing that they had been waiting I ordered a drink that came pretty quick but then sat again waiting to put our order in. I ordered a cheese enchilada and a chili relano. They were ok nothing special. They did have a salsa bar, it said they charge per cup if you take any. Usually a salsa bar is free. The drink was good could have used a bit more of alcohol it was pretty weak. Over all it wasn't our favorite place to eat. Not sure if we would go back. It was just ok. read more

We ordered pick up today. Taco salad with steak instead of hamburger and Mixed fajitas (chicken and beef-menu said for two). Taco salad was half filled in the hard shell, very little lettuce, no tomato and the steak they put in was micro diced and mainly gristle. Nothing had much seasoning and the fajitas for two came with three flour tortillas very little chicken or beef strips, green pepper was sauteed nicely with onions, but it appeared to have red bell peppers where the outer skin was the only part left in the container. VERY disappointed in the quality of the food and amount for what we paid. We ate there last year and it was not at all this bad. read more

My husband is 100% Mexicans so we don't find "good" Mexican food when we eat out but this was a MAJOR exception. I had the Pollo Fundido with beans instead of rice and it was SO tasty! Whoah! Best fajitas I have had in a hot minute. We found this place while searching along our route to the coast. Just moved here a week ago and hubby was craving for Mexican. Not sure what we were going to find in this small town of Columbus but we are certainly pleasantly surprised by El Campesino! The deco is very modest but who cares when the food is LEGIT! Be sure to stop by the salsa bar to get the various type of salsa. I was so mad that I didn't see it until we finished the first basket of chips! I had the fish taco, it was simple but YUMMY!! I added the pineapple salsa, pico de gallo and guacamole (all from the salsa bar) and I was a happy camper! Price is very reasonable and people are kind. The food here is good, the prices are good, but to me the employees are so unfriendly. They always look mad. I was eating here about once a week but got tired of the attitude that I experienced when I would go. I eat in an office and I need plastic forks and they will just throw them in the bag like it's a big deal. They never smile back. But the food is good. The tacos are good, chili poblano is good, it a real chili not the frozen things most Mexican restaurants have. The mocajete not sure I spelled that correctly is WONDERFUL but you need to be hungry if you order it. I give them 3 stars just because of how they treat you as a customer. Really good Mexican food. Love the salsa bar. I also love that they offer lunch specials on the weekends. Only downsides are sometimes, they don't bring you your full order and it's hard to find your server to bring it- several times they forgot my taco and it's hard to get someone to bring it to you. (I've mentioned it when they bring the bill and they usually say they will bring it, but then I am done eating!) Also, they only give you one menu for the table, which takes longer for your party to order. Lastly, it can be chaotic in the restaurant - you don't know whether to sit down or wait- Pay at the table or with the cashier. Pretty standard little Mexican restaurant in Columbus. The menu has exactly what you would expect and at very affordable prices. Per my usual, I ordered the enchiladas with a side of rice and beans.
