The appetizers came quick, but we were waiting on the meals for a while. Now, with that being said, the servers were always attentive to our drinks, the appetizers were darn good, and my burger, when I got it, was hot and juicy. Think juices dripping off your fingers and you're licking them clean because it tastes so good. Plenty of different beers on tap. TVs playing but the volume is down so you can have a conversation with people. If the meals had come out quicker, I would give it five stars.

My wife, mother-in-law, and I came specifically for the elk burgers and all ordered them medium rare - because that's how elk should be cooked for proper flavor. When the burgers arrived, we cut them in half and discovered that every single one was well done. Not one was prepared correctly. Either they were pre-cooked and reheated, or the kitchen simply didn't care. When our server checked in, we explained the issue and said we'd prefer not to eat them. She called the manager over, and that's when things got worse. To his credit, he offered to have the kitchen remake them, but knowing how kitchens react when an entire table sends food back, we declined. Then he held up the burger and claimed, "When burgers are thin, it's hard to cook them correctly." The problem? These burgers were clearly not thin...which I pointed out to him. Finally, he stormed off saying, "Fine - this is on me then, and we won't charge you." Charge us? Really? As if that was even an option after serving three inedible meals. We left and went to another spot up the street that knows how to cook a proper medium-rare burger.

I got a growler of beer from a different brewery here so that proved to be successful and pleasant. I went poking around on Untappd and looked up anything Black Lodge Brewing may have made and they certainly had some intriguing beers so I held off on getting a Yelp review posted for it. But on my second visit I was told that they don't brew their own beer anymore and that they only have guest taps from other breweries but they still had a good variety of beer to choose from as far as beer options go. So this place is more of a taphouse with guest taps so something to keep in mind. It's still as cool as I remember it. My last visit here looked like a concert was going to start. Might have been a metal or a punk oriented type band as that was what the audience appeared to be. I wasn't going to see the show and just wanted a beer so they were nice enough to let me in to do just that. Black Lodge Brewing is one of those breweries that is inspired by the TV show Twin Peaks and you pick up subtle nods to it there with some pictures of Laura Palmer. I bought some swag for this brewery online and while they had several designs I went with the logos that had the opening credits styled from the show with the brewery name on it.

We had two kids and a baby with us and they were extremely accommodating, offering the kids crayons and paper to color on to keep them busy, which allowed us parents to relax for a much needed minute. We ordered the artichoke dip and the kids cheese pizza, which was huge (for a kid's meal) and super cheesy with great crust, YUM! We got a few different beers - all were delicious - and took a couple cans of the Thai tea seltzer to go. The bartender/server invited the kids back to watch how he made the cans so that was cool. Overall very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, exactly what I was looking for with three kids. My husband loved the music and kept telling the guys it was his favorite stop of our whole trip!

The fish and chips were flaky and crispy, and the shoestring fries were so good with the variety of German mustards. The chicken wurst paired perfectly with the tangy red cabbage salad. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Coeur d'Alene!

The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and has that authentic Bavarian feel that makes you want to stay awhile. They truly have the best beer in town--an incredible selection of German beers along with American breweries that specialize in German-style brews. We tried one of their specials, and it was so good. The food did not disappoint at all. The pretzel with cheese is a must--warm, soft, and absolutely delicious. The menu overall is fantastic, with a great mix of traditional German dishes and options for everyone. Everything we had was flavorful and well done. If you love good German beer, German food, and a cozy atmosphere, this is definitely the place to go. We will absolutely be back--you don't want to miss out on this spot!
