When my friend told me about what they were doing to the old mills, I got SO excited and came for Small Business Sundays. Absolutely love what Lowell is turning into with such character. This coffee shop is about midway through the hall of markets. I absolutely love the look and feel and how it's connected to the great seating area for a little R&R. However, I was extremely disappointed that I waited about 30-40 minutes for my drink. I counted and about 8-10 drink orders went ahead of me during that time frame while my friend's tea got out quickly. I know it's busy but that wait felt pretty ridiculous for the smallest, pricey latte ever. Not to mention, we specified for her since well... we were literally sitting and waiting but they still put it in a to-go cup. They tried to make me feel okay but they were getting stressed with me standing there. I could hear it well in their voices. I'm giving this place a 4 stars just because of the ambiance and the benefit of the doubt that this may have been a fluke considering the 5 star record from other Yelpers. read more

5 star ambiance and location. I could sit here all day. It's a perfect place to meet with clients too! However, my 4 star is mainly for the service. The few times I've been (and the main reason I don't go out of my way to go back). As a former barista, I know there is just no reason why it would take two baristas 10+ minutes to make 4 lattes. There was no one ahead of us, no one behind us.... I know that some days are just off and maybe I happened to get three off days. This place has made a weird flip. It used to be small with great coffee and alright food, and now it has good food and bad coffee. The espresso is very under-extracted and watery. I wouldn't order any latte drinks, just stick to the nitro cold brew, hot chocolates, or kombucha. The food is tasty but can be inconsistent depending on who is working the kitchen. Baked goods are all great, I like the coconut macaroons the most. Even with the expansion it can be hard to find a seat with all the studying students, and unfortunately there is no outside seating. Get your drinks to go and check out some of the other shops if they're open. Beer selection is pretty good. Mostly local craft stuff. Wine selection is nothing to write home about. Keep in mind the higher ABV stuff comes in a 10oz pour. Try a Hungarian. It's a seasonal drink but I think it's still on the secret menu. I won't spoil what it is. read more

The place is a little hard to find but you just have to follow the big signs with the 5 on them on Jackson Street and then it's easy. Once you get near the mill there is an elevator in the back and you need to take it to the fourth floor. The atmosphere is fantastic. I felt as if I was on vacation in a log cabin. I ordered an Americano and it was slightly more acidic than I am used to but it had great flavor. My boyfriend ordered a mocha and there were actual pieces of chocolate in it! As a lifelong tea drinker, it's strange to find myself craving their cold brew, but dang, this stuff is the nectar of the gods! Stick around awhile to enjoy their really tasty breakfast sammies (so many bread choices!) and on-point baked goods (have a brownie - you're welcome in advance). The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but Coffee and Cotton is just one of the few shops in Mill No. 5 that makes it absolutely amazing! Located on the 4th floor, it's a warm and inviting coffee shop with tons of nooks to sit in and work. I wasn't feeling a bit sick during my trip to Boston so all I had was a hot tea and a multigrain bagel with their seasonal cream cheese (cranberry walnut), but everything was delicious. I really want to like this place but I am disappointed every time I come. I have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars at this business. Met friends here - hosted business meetings here....Today I came in to buy cheese at another business in Mill 5 but the cheese shop was closed. Cotton and coffee was the only business open. I asked for the restroom code but they refused to give it to me unless I bought something. Pretty lousy way to treat your customers. read more

I'm a sucker for old brick mills, especially in these historic industrial towns and so Coffee and Cotton gets auto stars just for its very cool setting on the fourth floor of an old mill and truly comfy interior with all types of nooks and crannies. My daily roast coffee was lukewarm and while the friendly staff was nice about offering an exchange for a fresh, hot cup, it took 25 minutes, so one star down. The coffee was very good when it came and unlike so many coffee cafes, the pastries were absolutely delicious. My $3.50 square of apricot shortbread with almonds seemed pricy until I started eating it; it was fresh, moist, dense, not-too-sweet and straight up great. This place is a bear to find the first time, but persevere. I can't wait to find an excuse to get up to Lowell again and return for coffee and atmosphere. read more

My basketball team was trying to find some kind of cafe out in Lowell to get some food before the drive back to Providence. We ended up at Mill No. 5 and I am so glad we did. The shops in the building are absolutely adorable and have the most interesting items. There was quite the line at Coffee and Cotton; I mean, there had to be at least 15 other people waiting for the elevator along with us all headed to the same eatery. The staff did a great job and the line moved relatively quickly. I got their Caprese sandwich and for around $9, it was not a bad deal at all. It must be a new menu item since it is not yet on their online menu. The sandwich was delicious -- the highlight for me was the generous drizzling of balsamic vinaigrette. I would have liked a tad more mozzarella and tomato though. Overall, Coffee and Cotton was everything I was hoping for and more. I can't speak for the coffee, but I can speak for the food and the service. Great atmosphere, too! read more

I never write reviews on here, but I have fallen completely in love with this place and felt the need to share. Coffee and Cotton is the perfect place for working remotely, writing a paper, leisurely surfing the internet, reading, bringing a friend for a drink/snack, or anything in between. I love that there is MORE than enough seating (+ a quiet area if you need it) and plenty of outlets for charging. I find that those are two things that are hard to come by at most coffee shops. The drinks are always great, and their grilled cheese sandwiches have made their way into my top 5 favorite sandwich list. Many other snacks and pastries available as well. On top of all of that, the staff have been overwhelmingly nice to me and don't judge when I come back for my 4th bag of chips and 5th iced tea haha. Love this place. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. It's set in a beautiful old mill building that has been turned into a trendy miniature town featuring all types of high quality small businesses and artisans. Coffee here is wonderful, especially if you like yours strong. Food is also good, though, nothing to write home about. The inside is roomy and has a super cool retro vibe with big windows and plentiful seating. I've been here many times and staff has always been friendly and accommodating. The music is sometimes a little loud, but adds to the place's character. I've brought friends here many times and all have loved it. Would definitely suggest giving Coffee and Cotton a try. read more
