I'm glad other people like this place but for me, it was a disappointment. I ordered 3 drinks to take home - a chai, a mocha, and a matcha. The chai was ok but the mocha and matcha were not. Both were tasteless with an unpleasant bitterness. I was expecting the drinks to be rich and full flavored but was disappointed. The barista was kind of rude too. My local sister recommended we stop by and we weren't disappointed. Coffees are all made to order. Plan on some time to get it but it's worth it! No franchise here. We didn't spend a lot of time at this cute shop, but it was all enjoyable. Seating and layout is limited. That is probably my only negative comment. There are outlets that people are willing to share. The staff are very friendly, and willing to make anything for you as long as they have the ingredients and you ask nicely. Great coffee but the yam/sweet potato cinnamon roll was too much for me Just Too Much I ended up tossing it into the trash. My mouth couldn't figure out how to process something so large. The taste was okay but not insanely good. After drenching my amazing coffee in raw sugar .. I kinda feltZz well.. fat eating it. Like it was unnecessary. So I wanted to try Donut Farm. Turns out this is a coffee shop that gets these donuts delivered to their shop from Donut Farm. Regardless, I got to try Donut Farm, which was great. It's way to expensive though. 6 donuts for $16?!? That's more than $2 for one donut!!! You'd think vegan would be cheaper. Also, all these donuts have the same bottoms. The only difference is the frosting on top. The green matcha one is really gross. But the early Grey lavender one is so good!!! I'd say three of them were good (lavender, coconut, salted caramel). The other 3 were ok (orange, Mexican hot chocolate, and matcha). What I love about the donuts is that they have a really good crunch and it is SO AMAZING. They seem More crumbly than normal donuts and less sweet tasting. I really like them overall. I'd give them a 3.7 stars if that was a choice. read more

What makes this place unique is the fact that is serves vegan pastries such as vegan donuts and organic drinks. I decided to come here to grab some vegan donuts and a latte to fulfill my morning coffee. The person serving me was kind and easy to talk to which is good. The latte I ordered though didn't really taste spectacular, rather just like any plain ole' latte. The reason I give this place 3 stars though is because the case seemed to just have flies in them so I didn't feel that the pastries were "fresh". This is a coffee branch of the Donut Farm store, so they sell Donut Farm vegan donuts, which I unfortunately recall as dry. It's a cool, eclectic little shop with lots of loose leaf tea drinks, cold brew, and a full espresso bar. My latte, a nice baseline drink I like to try, was good, well proportioned, creamy, and well made. The roast was very earthy and had a distinctive taste, not my favorite blend, but interesting. read more

A very nice decaf americano. Really good flavor- which you really don't get that many places. It's small and very hipster. The staff were quite kind. They apparently forgot the order of the man I was sharing a table with so they brought him a free donut - that was nice. Good collection of eclectic cups. Also kids toys and chairs. CBD latte. THEY DO NOT ROAST THEIR OWN BEANS For starters, I like Coffee Conscious. I've never had a bad cup of coffee here, the donuts are good, and I like the ambiance. That said, a few reviews on Yelp indicated that they roast their own beans. This is not the case anymore. I'm not sure what changed, but they currently get their beans from McLaughlin Coffee Company. The staff seemed to have no idea what I was talking about when I asked what kinds of beans they sold, if they are roasted in house, and what kind of beans were in the grinder. I expected them to have more knowledge of their own product. This may be due to recent staffing changes. Again, I like and recommend this place, just be aware that they don't roast their own beans. read more

I give the chai a thumbs up! Perfectly foamy, not too sweet, not overly spicy. Coffee shop with good vibes all around. The blueberry vegan don I got was just okay I've had better, but still good if you want to snack on something doughy. Vegan donuts! Orange cappuccino! This place has a really great vibe, with the posters of bands in the wall, repurposed furniture, and organic and fair trade caffeine and vegan options. I've never had orange cappuccino before, but it's smooth and tangy, I highly recommend it. It's quiet and the baristas Damien and Malcolm are very friendly. Coffee Conscious is great! It's also the closet coffee shop to my house, so lucky me. Coffee Conscious is a small funky coffee place in Westbrae. The interior is small - three or four tables that sit two each. If there are more than four people in line the place can feel crowded. The menu is small and covers the basics for coffee and related beverages. Prices are good - $2.00 for a medium coffee. They also have a small selection of baked goods (usually donuts). The staff is super-friendly. You can also pop your dog in if you want to order on a walk. Only gripe is that service can be slow if there's a line, as there's just one barista taking orders and fixing up everyone's fancy drinks. Small gripe, though. read more

I am writing this review particularly to rebuke the individual from 12/13/2020 for their baseless and trifling comments regarding the staff at Coffee Conscious and their so-called anti-scientific behavior and willful endangerment of others. Unless you have some real, scientific facts to back up your claim that a handful of people can not be inside the coffee shop (do you not grocery shop?) at once I suggest you keep your comments to yourself and take your business elsewhere. Since the pandemic started I have never seen one individual allowed inside the coffee shop without a mask and when people are in line and inside, they always make a point to remain socially distanced. Coffee Conscious is a pillar of the North Berkeley community and is run by an amazing, down to earth, and thoughtful group of people who have been struggling day in and day out to stay afloat and continue to serve incredible coffee during this pandemic. I have been going to Coffee Con for years and, aside from the small handful of hyper-privileged (predominantly older white male) bad apple customers who act like they are the center of the universe, have never experienced anything but incredible service, good coffee, genuine human interaction, AND phenomenal music on most weekends. I appreciate the fact this place serves vegan pastries from Pepples Donut, drinks are all organic, and they don't up charge for soy or almond milk in your coffee. The downfall is coffee is only served in a To-Go container, which I feel is not really eco-friendly, if you plan on drinking it in their establishment. I'm guessing, that explains the lack of indoor seating, which can cause a problem if the weather is cold. If you do decide to sit outside, make sure to pick up your drink, they do not bring your coffee to your table. My honey ordered a pour over coffee and I got a Soy Latte. The Latte was ok, nothing too spectacular. Don't expect latte art, since it's in a disposable cup. We also ordered a Yam Roll, which we both agreed tasted really good. Not too sweet. This low-key and unassuming shop, tucked away in the quiet Gilman St. shopping strip, sells all sorts of loose-leaf tea and coffee powder at a great price! It's not a fancy shop; pretty bare and basic in fact; but it has a decent (though not huge) selection of whole-leaf teas and coffee. It's owned by a friendly and gracious Asian lady with a warm smile and an adorable Asian accent. We couldn't find Masala Chai Tea so we bought Assam Tea (the closest thing we could find). Lo and behold, it's only 3 bucks for 4 ounces, which is wayyy cheaper than Lhasa Karnak Herb Company on Telegraph Ave! Amazing! She has both caffeinated and de-caffeinated versions for various sorts of tea and coffee. There're tea pots and coffee makers for sale too. Fellow yelpers, if any of you like loose-leaf tea like I do, you should totally support this small tea shop. Her shop was practically empty when we were there; we were her only customers! I think she deserves more. So go there and buy your decaf & caf Earl Grey, Ceylon, English Breakfast, Gunpowder, Jasmine, Apricot, Peppermint, Black Tea... and much more!!
