While having dinner nearby, I noticed on Yelp that a new boba spot opened up at the end of the block where we were already dining at. I'm a huge fan of mochi donuts and also love mochi boba drinks, so I knew I had to come check Mochiholics out. Arriving around 7pm on a Sat evening, this spot was surprisingly empty. We were able to order at the self-service kiosk without a wait, and received our order pretty promptly afterwards. The prices are pretty reasonable, and I love their selection. Although we were pretty full so we did not partake of any mochi donuts that evening, we opted to share an Ube Coconut Milk Smoothie w/ Boba. My wife, who usually does not drink much boba (hence the sharing of a cup) wound up really loving the drink, and actually drank about half of it herself. The taro was fresh and very strong, and the boba quality was soft, chewy and delicious. We have easily found our new, favorite local boba spot with Mochiholics. I came with my husband so we got a couple of drinks. I had the Ube Milk with Mochi Topping. I had it with 70% sugar and that was perfect for me. It wasn't too sweet. Although there are a plethora of boba places around UC Berkeley, it's nice to have a new mochi donut shop nearby. They're running different promotions right now through Snackpass (20% off for students, 15% off first orders, or a free mochi donut with the purchase of a drink) Matcha donut wasn't too sweet (just how I like it) and the perfect amount of chewy. A few cracks in the glaze but nobody's perfect. To drink I got the Ube milk with drinkable mochi with less sugar which is basically milk with sweet ube paste on the side of the cup with a runny mochi that can come up a boba straw. Still on the sweeter side but probably because of the presweetened ube paste. They have 2 people running the front so far, but the staff were friendly and I'm sure they will be able to keep up when the students return. Decorations and neon signs aren't fully up yet, but they still have more seating than most non-cafe places nearby. I'll be back! read more

This is a cute small area to chill or grab a drink on the go. The staff are friendly. We got to try a mange smoothie sample. It's actually pretty good considering I don't care for mango. I wanted to finish it all if I wasn't so full from lunch. We also got a taro smoothie sample. It essentially what you'd expect. We got mochi donuts. These were also pretty good. WORST mochi donuts I've ever had! I've tried a lot of different mochi donuts, so I have reference points for good, bad, and great donuts. I think Mochiholic sold us old donuts, and they weren't cheap--$18 for six! They were hard and dry and the flavor actually *tasted* stale. They had none of the delightful signature chewiness of mochi. We sampled a couple nibbles before bringing them home to see if heating them would help. It slightly improved the texture, but the stale flavor was still overwhelming. I wouldn't recommend getting mochi donuts here. Even if the donuts might be good fresh (a big "if") the business seems to think it's okay to sell old, stale, inedible products (at full price!) that any respectable shop would have tossed. I'm so excited to see my favorite mochi donut and boba store I have always visited the Pleasanton location but when I saw they have another location, I just have to come check it out. The location is great and loves the vibe it adds to the college town. I've only had mochi donuts from another, more recognizable bakery in Berkeley, but I think these are far superior. The donuts here were super stale and they mostly advertise themselves as mochi donuts (hence MOCHIholic) but they use a blend of regular flour and mochi flour. We walked in and were greeted with a slightly under decorated room, but the promotional video of a child making donuts really inspired us. The neon lighting provided warmth in a cold winter day. The donuts had a nice glutinous texture as they should. Our favorites were chocolate oreo and strawberry, as they were sweet (but not too sweet) and had a nice melody of flavor. Next up, matcha could've been better even for matcha lovers. Black sesame was more savory and reminded me of sesame balls, but lacked sesame seeds. Looking forward to trying their drinks. Service is always poor each time I go. This specific time, I was not at all greeted once I went up to the counter and waited for my mobile order. There were two people working, one making drinks and another further away making donuts, and neither gave a simple "hello be right with you". After about five minutes of no acknowledgment, I interrupted the one making the drinks to tell them I had a snackpass order and it was sitting next to them ready the entire time.
