It was cold, wet and dreary outside and us with warm thoughts of a tasty Latte and Americano drawing us to try a quaint shop. It was pretty packed and they seemed to be shorthanded. Think two people were working the shop. The guy taking orders was apparently new and still learning product details. We ordered and shared a big table with another guest (only space available inside). The table was sticky, not cleaned and it took a while before getting our drinks. We ordered a strawberry Italian soda, tasted exactly the way it did when I was younger. Had an iced Americano, strong and not watered down, great! Lastly a yogurt bing soo. I am waiting to post this review because so far I have only tried their drinks and the Korean shaved ice (patbingsoo) but I really want to try their waffle! Looks so good. I also know someone who works there and always ask her what I should drink, since I always drink the same stuff. When I go to Starbucks [even on a cold day] I want a Green Tea "something". Of course I don't really want "Green Tea" so I end up getting the Green Tea Frappuccino. But she told me ... she can make a hot version! I tried it and it was quite sweet but a little powdery in taste. Another tea I tried here was the Earl Grey? I have heard of it plenty but never really tried it until she made me a cup. That was quite an intriguing experience I'd say. I would say, a year later- I finally tried their waffle! It is the most delicious dessert waffle I have ever tried! No whip cream please, the fresh berries balance out the sweetness of the waffle with tartness that is fun to eat. I just tried their Green Tea Patbingsoo as well and it isn't really anything special other than a scoop of green tea ice cream on top of fresh fruit and other sides on the shaved ice. I like that they offer three different sizes to the Bingsoo. The ice is a bit inconsistent, some chunks and some smooth like snow flakes. The ice was completely flavored and not a bit of ice was not covered with sweetness. Generous portions of patt, fruits and syrup. The accompanying ice cream was generous in size. If you are new to this Korean dessert, I would recommend you get the small size and of each flavor, so you can taste the variety of goodness and decide on your go to. It's all good!!! So I saw this shop out of the corner of my eye while driving to gravity coffee stand in S Tacoma Way, I like to support smaller businesses, so I thought "why not?" And boy am I happy I stopped in. Super cute ambiance, the barista was so sweet and humble as well as inviting and great at his job, the coffee was DELICIOUS!! I got a black sugar latte and added white chocolate, it was the perfect amount of sweetness , perfect temp, perfect amount of foam with a nice little artistic heart in the foam. After tasting the coffee I decided to try a Nutella filled taiyaki ( fish shaped pastry). This was also to die for. I will be coming back to try more of the menu and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere. This is definitely one of my favorite places to go to for a Korean treat. They have a variety of patbingsu flavors to chose from and everything is so yummy! My only complaint would be that service is super slow and the facility isn't that large so sometimes you'll have a crowd waiting or random people standing, waiting to be seated. I also noticed that the last time I came in to order, they didn't put any dduk in the patbingsu. Epic fail because that's my favorite! So far, the food and drinks have been great too! I always love coming here. When I first came here I loved the cute DIY aroma and setting. It for well with the adorable food placement and everything. The place is one of the best. They do take a bit longer to bring out the food, but once it comes out, it always seems to be worth it. I love the food, the coffee, and the desserts. The dessert waffles are great delicious and good size serving. The toasts are HUGE! Next time I order the toast I'll need to add extra scoops of whip cream and ice cream to it because the bread became dry after a while. The honey almond toast tasted just like churro. Both items are very tasty but I would prefer them both to have more scoops of whip cream or ice cream and an option to add that on grub hub (for some reason you can not add extra fillings online) otherwise both are good for the price. **update** I requested an extra scoop of ice cream in my notes and they were SO KIND as to add it to my order and. Just as one should never judge a book by its cover, don't judge the Coffee Kitchen by its storefront. It's located in a dreary little strip mall (aren't they all dreary?) behind a corner 7-11. But step inside and you'll be greeted by the smell of good coffee and delighted by a cheerful gathering space. The atmosphere is warm, open and bright. I'm a sucker for good atmosphere. So, I'll start there. I love the decorations and vibe of this place. It's really clean. I know this may be weird that I'm mentioning that but it's so meticulously clean that I'd be doing this place a injustice if I didn't mention it. "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson was playing while I was waiting for my order which made me truly love the good feeling, chill vibe. They also took a really big ventilation shaft in the middle of the room that could be a huge eye soar, and put a light brick outside style fireplace wallpaper on it. I didn't even realize it was a vent until I was standing there waiting, and I was purposely looking for details about the place. Anyone who wasn't looking probably wouldn't have even noticed. That smart interior decorating decision in itself makes me appreciate the owners of this cute little shop even more. Okay, next let's get to the coffee. I ordered a mocha frappe. Can't really go wrong with this one. It was yummy and I liked how the barista put both mocha syrup and chocolate flakes on the whip cream. The food choices look really good too. Not too much to choose from, but I think they were smart with the hot food they decided to serve: caprese, grilled cheese and turkey & avocado sandwiches. All around smart decisions. Its in the Asian part of the shopping center so I was tricked by the outside demeanor. Sometimes when I go to Asian influenced restaurants, or coffee shops the Asian presence is overwhelming. Yes there is 1 employee most of the time so I do understand why wait times can be long with big groups but non the less it was fast when I went alone. Options vary between espresso to tea as well from sandwiches to breakfast/dessert waffles and Honey Toast! I had a drip coffee iced because initially I asked for cold brew and they did not have that so she recommended it. Also had the Caprese Panini with a side salad with balsamic vinegar. The Sandwich was simple and delicious for just being Tomato, Pesto, Mozzarella and a ton of black pepper so yes it's vegetarian which is always a plus. My friend and I ordered the regular sized green tea pat bing soo (Korean shaved ice) it includes green tea shaved ice and ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, mochi, fresh bananas, strawberries, blueberries and kiwi. I told them I'm allergic to kiwi and they accommodated very well. I really liked that the actual shaved ice was flavored with green tea and that fresh fruits were used instead of fruits cooked with syrup. Very cute place and easy to find!
