I've thrown out a few drinks from here. The vibe is cool but the coffee sucks. Check out coffee Z. Also contrary to the hours listed here this place is NOT open at 7 AM. I've seen them just opening at 8:30 or later as I walk by. You're a coffee shop guys! What the hell? read more

Coffee is good but the atmosphere of the place is so forced and pretentious. The owner isn't very friendly and whenever I order I feel awkward like I'm interrupting conversation amongst employees. The tables are too small to do any real work on and I only come here if I'm having a coffee emergency as a last resort. read more

Weak coffee and no flavor. Wanted to like this expensive cup of watery brew but quality worse than Dunkin Donuts.

I've only been twice mainly because the pasty case is sparse, the coffee is expensive and the service is beyond pretentious. Not a fan!

I really don't like posting bad reviews but this place has gone downhill. I've given them 6 chances now (over the past several months) and every single time the coffee has been inedible, yes had to throw it away. So sorry guys but if your going to charge top dollar you MUST train your baristas. Though the baked good were just as awful. I'm happy to try again just please make better coffee. read more

The coffee is really great, but the guy behind the counter with the long hair and the hat... He's polite but with a real attitude. Like he says the right things but his whole air is as if he is superior. He's cold. It takes away from the pleasure of finding a great place for coffee in this area. read more

A very welcome development in the neighborhood. I've lived here for 23 years and for most of that time, there were quite literally no options within walking distance for a sit-down coffee. But now I've got one and it has AC, wifi, chill music and a friendly owner. The place is spotlessly clean and the cold-brew coffee was excellent. read more

The coffee... superb! The lox and bagel sandwich... not so much - and I mean that literally. For damn near 10 dollars, this BK babe expects far more than an anemic bagel, with one layer of lox sliced so thin, you barely notice it's there. For that matter, there was not much of anything else (where is the tomato?!!) between the slices of toasted, bland dough. Look, you don't need to be a hipster to enjoy delicious coffee, brewed and served with obvious care. And I'm willing to pay what that's worth. But no one should leave Coffee Mob feeling shaken down, especially over lox and bagels. Because no matter what neighborhood you come from, a good lox sandwich is something every good BK guy/gal appreciates - and no one should fool around with. read more

I came here with my date after we spent two hours walking around in the freezing cold looking for somewhere to have lunch. We figured we would stop here to check the GPS and have some hot chocolate to warm our spirit and bodies up. The hot chocolate was delicious but they didn't have whipped cream! But the barista was nice enough to give me loads of marshmallows instead to make up for it. The hot chocolate wasn't very sweet but it was tasty. We also got a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie. The brownie was a bit dry but the crispy chocolate chip cookie was delicious. I would have licked the plate clean if I wasn't on a date. The shop itself is very small with limited seating [they do have a bathroom though!]; but the seats are sort of cool. They are built into the wall but they don't offer back support. On a side note, be sure to bring cash as they don't accept cards and the menu is on a chalkboard to the left of you when you come in. read more

First time getting coffee from here. Wanted the spiced ice coffee....... Was very bitter, wasn't fresh, the coffee tasted old. It had great potential but ruined by the harsh bitterness......... for 4.75 I won't be trying again. May try to make at home. read more

slightly hipster coffee place randomly appears while we're walking around the Newkirk Plaza area. On a hot day the sign for cold lemonade drew us in, and boy was it lemonade - it was very sour and we could sweeten it as we liked with the provided simple syrup. A small, but comfortable place to sit and chat, we made friends with the barista. Records playing in the background which were fun to peruse while cooling our heels. Would love this place up in Harlem. read more

I do wish this place was open before I have to schlep myself to work (6:30am). I like stopping in when I have the chance- I am digging the new outdoor seating and planters. Um...I ordered a cappuccino and asked for it to be made with half and half instead of milk and I was charged an extra 75 cents what??? it says on the board that macadamia, soy or almond is an additional charge but doesn't say anything about half and half which is the same price every where else. I would have been okay with it if it was actually good but it was so weak and barely tasted like anything. I always get a breve the half and half does not detract from the espresso...never coming back sorry. read more

This place is a super duper looper addiction to the area!! The coffee is amazing, the grilled cheese sandwich is worth having a seizure over and the pastries are marvelous. The owner of this place is a coffee snob (which is a great thing) and he is really into coffee gadgets and quality. The other reviews mentioning this place is pretentious, and rude or unfriendly, are they serious? I don't think I've yet to find a friendlier warmer bunch then the guys at coffee mob. They are always courteous, accommodating, patient and explain to you what they are serving you. I've been there with children where they handed the kids crayons and stuff, served the kids water in glasses and were user friendly. Thank you guys for being so warm and fuzzy and opening in this wonderful spot. Keep up the great work and please don't get offended by reviews that prefer their coffee from a bodega counter. read more

This review is based purely on the Chai Latte (Soy) which is hands down easily the best I've ever had in New York City (probably in the US). I've been drinking alot of Soy Chai Lattes lately, taking a break from my usual Cortados. A good Chai is full of bright and spicy flavors and it should not be too sweet which, in my experience, is often the case in this city. If you need a little sweetener add a touch of honey to find that balance. If you've never had a Chai Latte before this is a good place to try your first (and should be the standard for all others to come). Excellent job - delicious! read more

The coffee taste watered down and has little flavor. I like my coffee rich and full of flavor. Currently, my favorite coffee is Stumptown.

Perfect if you are walking to the train and need a cup to go and even better if you want to stay and watch the world from full wall window. Espresso drinks are fabulous and there is a modest selection of baked goods, including vegan and gluten free options. This is the only place in the neighborhood that will toast a chocolate almond croissant which is sheer bliss paired with a cappuccino. read more

I think the only reason to give them a star is because of location. Other wise the service is completely terrible as well as the coffee. Serving your customers should be enjoyable not some sort of asshole entitlement, but then again who am I to judge just another food blogger in america. just a tip for you all, as bitter as the service is you will still have that nasty taste in your mouth 30 minutes later. read more

A Coffee Bar where everyone knows your name...... It's 7 AM; I'm anxious after pulling an all-nighter. Where do I go to relax before going back to work? Coffee Mob. Everyone is very friendly and, more importantly, knowledgeable. These guys and gals are BARRISTAS - not glorified McDonalds employees that wear a Starbuck's uniform. Going to Coffee Mob is a fun adventure - excellent coffee with many different varieties coming in constantly - always something new. The staff knows coffees and flavors. Cold Brew to die for! Ginger Brew! Fresh Chamomile tea (I can only get this at real native Chinatown Dim Sum shops). Awesome pastries including vegan and gluten free delectables. What if you want to learn the finer things about coffee and home brewing? - this is the place to go. I have learned truckloads here; it's incredible. No more sour faces when I serve coffee for myself or guests - I'm really serious. People used to go into the bathroom and dump my coffee down the toilet when I wasn't looking. Now they make sure I have fresh beans on hand and want to know what new coffee I have for them to sample when they stop by. I go to many spots all over the metropolitan area; my friends and I are into coffee the way some enjoy wine. We often go on Coffee crawls. I have been looking for a place like this in the neighborhood for a looooonnnnggg time. I actually walked past it a couple of times because it didn't look like much. Boy was I wrong. Well... I really wanted to love Coffee Mob because it's close to my apartment and it's cute, but after today's experience, I just can't see myself ever going back. First off, the iced chai latte I got tasted like dirty water with cinnamon on top. It didn't taste like the spices were boiled with the tea at all, it really just seemed like they were added to the cold black tea after the fact. I make much better chai at home, and I'm no chai-making expert. Also, $5.25 for a bad chai latte? Come on... Anyway, I tipped and went on my merry way, sipping what ended up being a crappy chai latte only to find a baby cockroach in it 3/4 of the way through. I don't know if the baby cockroach had died in the ice or in the tea, but it was definitely a dead baby cockroach and it was about an inch from the bottom of the cup, surrounded by ice cubes. I thought maybe this was a cockroach-looking spice chunk, but it wasn't. It was definitely a baby cockroach with that beigey brown baby cockroach part near the head and the black baby cockroach antennae and the dark brown baby cockroach body. I really looked at it because I desperately wanted it to be a spice chunk, but it wasn't. And as much as I understand that we eat bug parts all the time, particularly in processed foods, this baby cockroach was a little too real and intact and present in my latte for me to be OK with it. I decided against going back and making a scene because what would be gained from that? Instead, I threw my drink away in a garbage can on the street so that the baby cockroach could be given a proper cockroach burial by its cockroach friends. Then, I almost threw up at the thought of drinking baby cockroach bathwater and nearly eating a baby cockroach. And so, every time I walk by Coffee Mob, I will think of that baby cockroach and gag a little. I hope this incident doesn't give me nightmares. The end. read more

Overpriced and overhyped, even by Brooklyn standards. Slow, often rude service. Order coffee only-- espresso drinks will set you back more than $5 and wont even last the half a block it takes to walk to the train. And don't ask about the pastries unless you want to lose 5 minutes of your life hearing about vegan, gluten free earl grey scones when you're really just trying to catch the train. read more

There was a very rude energy from a staff member this evening and a sarcastic comment on my way out the door. Wasn't sure what I had done to piss the barista off, but apparently something. That, or he was angry about something else. Either way, the anger wasn't channeled in the appropriate way--not a good business strategy. I'm a please and thank you type of person, so although the complete interaction isn't crystal clear in my head, I'm pretty sure I was as cordial as I am normally. Regardless, I've been coming in since it opened--not frequently, but here and there--and now, sadly, I'm not sure I want to. Upset me enough to write my first yelp review, though. :/ read more
