Can I give Coffee Nine more stars please? My family and I are new to town and we are coffee lovers! Coffee Nine is a walk from our new place and while I'd love to keep this place a little secret, I just can't! It wouldn't do this amazing team any justice!! I've been in several days, at several times and the service never falters. The weekday mornings get busy, but the team stays positive and efficient. Coffee is great, food is delish, and I love that they know no one wants to pay an arm and a leg for good cup of coffee and a breakfast item. 2 coffees and 2 breakfast items puts you around $10. That's seriously amazing! Two mornings in a row, we promised our little one a sprinkled donut. While standing in line BOTH mornings and talking to our excited child about her sprinkled donut and how "there's only one left", BOTH times, the dip infront of us bought THE VERY DONUT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT. I mean, fair is fair, but you couldn't write a funnier story. Anyway, on Sat morning, not only did the barista grab another donut and throw sprinkles on it for our girl, but she promised her that she would save her one on Sunday morning. Sunday morning comes around and I took my little one in, and sure enough, Ariah (sp?) not only recognized my little one right away, but actually had her special donut sat aside, waiting for her. Is this real life? Moments like these build a relationship from the establishment to a customer, and we will not forget it. Small to the employee maybe, HUGE to an excited little girl. While eating my yum yum chorizo burrito, I couldn't help but to notice that this team, knows all of their customers. By name. Knows their kids, knows their orders.. and just wow. Though I can give stars for the atmosphere, pleasant service, and fine pastries, it loses a lot due to the quality of the coffee. I found it to be somewhere between burnt-tasting and too watery. If it could balanxe their brewing, it would be great. read more

This place lacks consistency. They have good breakfast burritos, and their salsa is really smokey and great. The problems are that they have crappy wifi. The place is also a cell phone vortex for AT&T. I only get 1 bar of service. The business owner should realize the reality of the modern coffee shop and invest in either a cell phone amplifier from a company like Wilson, or upgrade their wifi service, or both. I was here last week and saw a guy inform the barista that the wifi wasn't working. She couldn't have seemed more disinterested, and to be fair, there's likely not much the average barista can do about something like that. Except notify the owner. The guy then packed up and walked out saying this happened to him a few times before and he wouldn't be back. Point is, something as seemingly "not my responsibility to facilitate your telecommunications" is resulting in sales dollars literally getting up and walking out the door never to return again. Of course, the do employ a bevy of cute, friendly, local gals who keep the regulars stopping by throughout the day. So maybe their business model is to keep the tables turning, don't have a bunch of wifi hogs with laptops squatting up the limited space, and keep pushing folks out the door. If so- mission accomplished. The bagels look to be the same crap from Kellie's bakery that have infiltrated most of the local Independant shops in the area. Kelly must be giving out handies to keep people stocking those horrible items. Oh- and NO SALT bagels. WTF is wrong with people around here? Coffee Cat is the only shop around here that I've found who stocks them, and it's rare that any are left after noon. And the coffee at Coffee Cat is better. And the wifi works. I was headed to Coffee Cat today, and figured "what the heck, I'm hungry and really like their salsa, so I'll just stop here". I got out of my truck, stopped, thought better of it, got back in the truck, then said to myself "You're already parked just go in". Got my drink, sat at the bar and started waiting for my burrito. And waiting. And waiting. Guy came in about 5 minutes after me got a drink, sat next to me, got a breakfast bagel. Had a nice conversation with the barista, finished his bagel sandwich and left. Finally I said something. The burrito sucked today. Hardly any cheese or ham in it, and it seems like they changed the salsa. It was bland, bright red, not smoky, blah. There also didn't appear to be any kind of juices or juice drinks. I wanted like a little Odwalla or Naked green or super green something. Oh now I see it! It's in the corner by the door so you see it on the way out, you know, when there's a huge line that you don't wanna get back into to buy something you were looking for the first time you were in line. Horrible layout, not conducive to a positive consumer experience. I guess if you came here everyday you'd know about it. Well, I don't. Just another local business set up for "locals only" or more accurately "regulars". I have no desire to suffer through becoming a regular. I'm going to be in that group of folks known as "passers by". Just passing by on my way from my home in Boulder Creek to Scotts Valley just to get to a decent coffee shop. read more

The young ladies working here seemed disinterested at best. The coffee was good though.

It looked so cute we decided we wanted to have breakfast there. At 9am the music was super loud and not very welcoming. The coffee was soso, the bagel with ham and cheese and egg was solid frozen in a nicety toasted bagel. when I asked the girl at the counter to warm it up, she just popped the whole bagel and all in the microwave making the bagel chewy and awful. Common people, I understand its hard to get good staff but why does it have to be pre-frozen food? 2 stars for the cuteness and the great book about the hippy community in the 60s ...everything els...disappointing. read more

One of the greatest things about Coffee Nine is their honestly policy. If you are in a hurry, you can pour your own (really good) coffee from and airpot and just put your money in the jar. No waiting in line behind half caff, no foam, fresh grind, hand tasted, la di da and then tipping someone for handing you a cup. read more

I went here with my boyfriend for a fast easy breakfast. Not only did we get horrible service (the two girls kept talking over everyone and were talking about several inappropriate things), It took them 20 minutes to make a breakfast burrito! Not exactly quick service. . . also, the burrito was bland and unsatisfactory. Will only come here for small drinks (water, juice) from now on. read more

Coffee is great! Their coffee condiments are wonderful, chocolate powder, cinnamon, so forth. They have a pretty good variety to choose from as far as blends are concerned. If you have read any of my other posts, you will know that I love Bran Muffins with my coffee... This place has the KING OF BRAN MUFFINS. I thinks it's more of like a small planet, maybe Pluto when it got kicked out of the line of planets. It's serious, and don't feel bad if you don't finish it... it's just that big. I haven't had any of their other pastries/breakfast items, so I can't rate anything other than their oh so wonderful bran muffin and great coffee. Love this place! read more

Their bagels are the best around...however, the service is not so great. It's hit or miss at best. There's definitely better places around although the atmosphere and the regulars are nice and it's in a convenient spot when you're headed down to Santa Cruz. read more

Visiting here from Seattle I was very happy with the cuppa coffee. But the cherry on top was the bagel. There is nowhere in Seattle to get a decent bagel, and whoever makes them here knows what the heck they're doing! If I lived in the area this would be my regular coffee house for sure! read more

This is a great little coffee shop on highway nine conveniently across the street from where we live. They have a good selection of coffee drinks and some awesome breakfast options of the bagel,breakfast burrito, muffin, pastry variety. We have been there a few times since moving here in December and have enjoyed it each time, but we do think its a bit pricey. read more

As I now live up near Quail Hollow Ranch, I have been in search of my coffee spot. I must admit that Mr. Coffee is greatly accessible from my living room recliner, but otherwise Coffee Nine is not too far away. Their coffee selection is pretty good, they have nice assortment of periodicals to thumbe through, and the pastry box is well stocked. Service may be a little slow sometimes but they make up for it with friendliness. The reason for only 3 stars is that I would never want to stay too long as it is really cramped and there is not a great attempt to reduce the amount of chairs and tables in there. It might be much nicer if they cleared a litlle elbow room. Good spot to stop if you are needing some fuel for the day ahead. read more

The worst attitude from one the workers, mean, and very disrespectful, the coffee is just bad, I ask for a Mexican mocha and I couldn't drink it because how spicy was, it taste like they put hot sauce on it literally, idk if this is just because I'm a brown person, but I have the worst experience ever in that place. read more

This is a wonderful, down-to-earth coffee shop with friendly staff, excellent drinks and food, and a warm atmosphere. Lots of regulars come in with the new folks - all are treated kindly. The owners really seem to care about the quality of their food and coffee and also have some longtime staff who are super-special people. It's in the heart of little Ben Lomond village, conveniently set on Hwy 9, with nice big tables and wifi. It is one of my favorite coffee spots in Santa Cruz County and I highly recommend that you give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I go here every morning. Good coffee and great service. If you are on the go, you can put some money in the tin by the coffee dispensers, get your coffee and run out the door. They also have a frozen blended coffee drink called "The Gritty Kitty," which is the best I have ever had! Summer is coming, so this is a great way to chase away the heat. read more

People here always tend to forget to make my drinks. And I wait for about 15+ minutes and then have to remind them I ordered something, and they tend to be startled that they forgot to make my beverage.I forgive them. I really enjoy the atmosphere and I realize it's a busy place. They're really nice, good drinks, only wish I had a more distinct regal way to show I deserve jaunty service just like everyone else. It's a bummer they don't accept credit. The one thing that makes up for all this other stuff is that they have free wifi, which is highly appreciated by busy professionals such as myself. read more

There is no business that I have seen that is worthy of 5 stars. If I could give this establishment a 3 1/2 stars, I would. They are better than 3, but not quite a 4. I go there once a week. The people behind the counter are welcoming and friendly, but it seems that they are over worked, as they are very busy, but the food to be made is a bit slow, and it is not the cheapest place I have ever seen. Over $8.00 for a BLT? Huh? This is the San Lorenzo valley, not the Silicon Valley. They would get another half star if they were faster and another half star if they were more affordable. read more

Food here is not edible. The breakfast burritos taste like day old McDonald's scrambled eggs, stuffed and rolled into a damp bounty sheet. It was so awful I threw it away after a couple bites, and switched what should be old reliable - the breakfast bagel. What I got was a rubber yellow disk (assuming it's was egg, although the only thing I really have to go on here is the process of elimination), on an over salted round ritz cracker, with Salvation Army grade "ham". I'd love to give this place 5 stars because its close to where I live and I got there weekly. That aside, the place has sub par service. Even with 2-4 people behind the counter it takes waaaaaay too long to get your order. The girls that work there are nice enough, just slow and clearly have little experienced in food service. It seems like every time I go in there someone is being trained on the cash register or on how to make coffee or a sandwich. If the owner focused a bit more on how the place is run Im sure it would be get more customers. As it is, there's not much competition in ben lomond so they are safe for now. read more

Holy smokes. These guys open at 430am!! Great local coffee house. Sometimes the carafes get flavor stained and the french roast tastes like hazelnut but that's my only complaint! They have a lot of variety when it come to coffee flavors. The muffins are delish too! The blueberry and bran are my favorites but the sandwiches are really good too. I love stopping by for a bagel when I have to wake up at oh my god and drive to work in the bay from Ben lo. The gals that work here are super sweet! I love this place. It has great customer service most of the time and delicious sandwiches. The first time I went the girls were snotty but they've since gotten a new batch that are great every time. I really appreciate them having a selection of decafs including flavored ones as I sadly can't drink regular anymore due to a fairly serious health condition. I went to Coffee Nine for some Mother's Day coffee with my daughter and I will never go back. I grew up in the Valley, but moved away several years ago and was treated like some meaningless out of towner (not that anyone should be treated like I was). Not one but two people where helped in front of me because "they where locals" and the people behind the counter new their daily order. Guess it's good for the locals (friends go there daily) but don't stop there if your from anywhere else! I left and went to Mountain Roasting in Felton. They are always good and consistent!!! read more

This little coffee shop has a lot of charm about it...but i cannot stand how every time i go in there, country music is playing. That is absolutely the last kind of music i would want to hear while i am sitting in a coffee shop. IT IS TERRIBLE and it takes away from the charm. other than this i really like this little place. there is a girl who works there with short brown hair...i think she said her name was phillis (she told me how she hates the country music too), but she is always so nice and professional and i know i can count on a great cup of coffee and great service when she is helping me, if you go there tip her BIG! all in all this is a great place if u want to sit in a woodsy little coffee shop and enjoy a cup of fresh organic coffee (the espresso is really bad though), just as long as they dont have the whiny country playing. read more
