There are many better cafes in truckee! I would eat here if you are stuck here charging your car, otherwise this is overpriced and disorganized. I ordered one drink and one sandwich. Both were separately wrong. First they handed me another unrelated customer's croissant. When I confirmed that I didn't order a croissant, they insisted that I go hand the croissant to the other customer. Then they made a coffee instead of a tea latte. It was a busy Sunday morning so maybe the staff were overwhelmed, but it was quite a bit of trouble to get my food. I did still give two stars since there is at least ample seating. read more

I'm a teacher at a local school and I came to Coffeebar Bakery in a pinch before having to teach an evening class. Usually I go to Crescent Cafe at New Moon (which I enthusiastically recommend for value and quality), but they were closed. I have been to the various coffeebar locations for coffee and pastries, and thought, why not give them a try for something outside the coffee/pastry wheelhouse. READER: NEVER AGAIN. Actually, now I'll never even go back for a coffee or cookie. Look, I think we can all agree Coffeebar is overpriced. The organic light rye levain at Tahoe House is only $8 (a steal in Tahoe!) whereas Coffeebar charges $11 for an inferior loaf of bread. But whatever. The coffee *is* good. I assumed that a salad which costs $18.50 (I added avocado for an extra $2 charge) would be a nice-ish dinner salad. I did not expect to get 2 ounces of arugula, 1 ounce of wilted spring mix, and the saddest meal experience of my middle-aged life. First, the salad promises, per their menu, little gem lettuces. I'm not lettuce agnostic. You're charging me $18.50 for a salad, I'm assuming I'll get what the menu states. But no. Instead, you get some shitty spring mix and no garbanzo beans. Randomly, we have substituted... peas? The lettuce was almost inedible, the red cabbage beginning to brown, the feta bland, but most offensive was the price. Reader, ask yourself: is this a $20.50 salad? No. It is not. Moreover, prior to this experience I was a happy(ish) Coffeebar customer. I overpaid for my lattes and pastries to shop local and meet friends for a chat. Now, honestly, I just feel exploited. This is INSANE. I am literally A TEACHER. I just needed a quick and easy meal before class! I really hesitated at a $20 salad because I am not an idiot, but then I thought: THIS SALAD IS GOING TO BE SO NICE IT WILL BLOW MY MIND. Reader, it did blow my mind. Coffeebar's Superfood Salad broke me and I will never return. Next time friends want to meet for coffee, we'll go to Zuri or Wild Cherries (both, honestly, would have been my choice for a quick dinner over Coffeebar, but they were closed, alas.) read more

We ordered a peppermint brownie, ham and cheese croissant, Rosemary matcha and Gibraltar. The brownie had good peppermint flavor but it wasn't very fudgey which is how I prefer it. It was pretty sweet and was closer to grainy and dry than soft. Ham and cheese croissant is exactly like you could find around. The rosemary matcha didn't have a strong rosemary flavor like we were expecting but the matcha itself wasn't the best or the worst. Gibraltar was probably the largest disappointment. It's supposed to be a chuggable temperature but it was so hot that the espresso tasted burnt and acidic. I loved the decor on the inside and it would make a nice work space on weekdays. I also didn't have a "nice" or "pleasant" experience with any of the staff I interacted with. They were all curt, unhelpful and/or rude. I had the cashier loudly sigh and roll her eyes when I asked a question about a drink. She then proceeded to aggressively hit the pastry bag I set on the counter to ask me what was in it. Lattes were excellent, and the stand out food items for me were the breakfast burrito that was panini pressed and the energy bites. Everything was delectable! Will return for sure. We have been going to coffee bar bakery for about 7 years now. We live about 2 hours away and drive up every few months to visit Truckee and always stop here. In the past we have ordered gluten free sourdough for pick up and then we take it home and freeze it to have on hand. On Friday 1/30 my husband called and placed an order since we were planning to come Sunday. He ordered 5 loaves and gave his name. The person he spoke to didn't mention pre paying but he remembered we always prepay so he brought it up, the employee told him no need to pre pay and he was set. We showed up Sunday to pick up our bread and it was no where to be found. The employees handled this poorly, the first employee we spoke to disappeared without answering us or getting us the other bakery items we ordered there, we had to ask another employee to help us since she disappeared. When we finally were able to get an answer we explained the situation and the employee told us it was our fault we didn't pre pay. My husband told the situation to the kitchen manager after no one followed up with us and all she said it was because they have new staff and we could buy the one loaf of the red pepper, we had ordered just regular plain. They obviously didn't care and took no accountability, just made excuses or blamed us. Such a disappointing experience. I love what coffee bar stands for but I think they need to do some training on how to treat customers, how to apologize and how to repair when mistakes happen. I understand when you hire new employees and are training there are going to be mistakes but when there are there should easily be repair, accountability and a sincere apology. I didn't expect to leave with bread but we did expect a sincere apology, accountability and repair after we drove 2 hours with one of our main goals being picking up this bread. read more

I'm a big fan of Coffeebar in historic Truckee, and figured this would be just as good. But it's not quite up to par. The stylish, put-together Downtown location vs this one, could not be more different. It felt half-baked in the style, decor, and seating arrangements. Plants were half dead and furniture felt more like a grocery store cafeteria than a coffee shop. They do offer a variety of food, snacks, and pastries. We ordered an almond croissant and cinnamon roll. The almond croissant wasn't anything to write home about - the cinnamon roll however was delicious! Plenty of spices and a perfectly not-to-sweet frosting. It is worth it! Ordered a hot vanilla latte, and waited probably 10 minutes for it. The espresso is VERY fruity, with some nutty undertones. Not my favorite flavor profile, it really overpowers the entire drink. So I'll try something different next time. Baristas/service was good enough, everyone was nice and helpful. FYI there is a service charge for disposable to-go cups/containers. So if you live in the area bring your own cup, or use their "borrow a cup" program. read more

Lion Roll You aren't writing that down? I said Lion Roll. L.I.O.N. R.O.L.L. I live in Reno. I love Coffeebar Roastery. We go there at least once a week. We hadn't been to the Coffeebar Bakery even though it had been open for a long time, because it's a pretty good trip up to Truckee from our house south of Reno. But we were on a daytrip and stopped by. And then I recalled someone at coffeebar had mentioned the Lion Roll. So I got it. I got it like an addict takes his very first hit. It's not a synonym roll....it's a Cardamom roll. And it is what baked goods dreams are made of. Light and airy and perfectly balanced chew and crispiness. Yes. I actually dreamed about the Lion Roll, because I can't get it every day. I have to wait and get it as a treat on a weekend or a sneak away during the week. Because, like I said, Truckee is a bit of a drive from home, but now, it's well worth the drive. In fact just today we made a special trip just to pick up two rolls they set aside for us. The rest of the baked goods are good. Their gluten free selections are impossible to tell apart from regular baked goods of the same type. I really love this place...but my health and waistline is glad it's a bit further away than and every day occurance. read more

Coffeebar is my go-to bakery & coffee shop in Tahoe! This place has a few windows of congested times, eg an hour before the ski resorts open and around brunch hour. Otherwise, it's pretty nice & quiet and a great place to catch up with a friend or do some quiet work. They have a great coffee selection and I usually order an oat cappuccino or oat chai latte (roobios). Both options are the perfect light sweetness. They have a variety set of baked goods but I loved their vegetarian frittata. I like to order it hot and eat it for breakfast (it's the perfect meal before skiing). The frittata has the best portions of mushroom, egg and spinach providing me a healthy and filling meal. They also have really cute handmade mugs! Check them out. My family is staying at a friend's cabin this week and this coffee shop is a must any time we're in Truckee. The gluten free bakery items are delicious, the lattes are consistently great and the customer service has been fantastic. The cashier is very efficient and kind to make tweaks to drink orders (which I'm always a bit embarrassed to give!). Love the foam artistry of barista too. I love Coffeebar!! If you get there early you can wake up with a very large selection of freshly baked donuts, like maple bars and glazed donuts. But, if you don't want to wake up I early, you can still buy delicious donut holes, croissants, and bread. They also have a very wide range of drinks like hot chocolate, coffee, and tea. (I especially love the seasonal apple cider!) The cashiers are always happy and friendly to us, and the ambiance is fun and lively. Have been a fan of Coffeebar for years. Buuuut. They just recently updated their pricing. And I'm sorry it's just too much to me ... $7.50 for a slice of pizza? That's a pass. Still enjoy Coffeebar but as a local, too many places on the mountain are WAY over priced. I enjoy the quality of coffeebars food and beverage. As a local, servers know me and experience is always pleasant. This location on Donner Pass Road is very accessible. I always see a lot of people working on their laptops. Can be pretty busy at peak times. Any time I have meetings during the summer, I always suggest the downtown location. Since I love to sit on the patio when the weather is nice. But this would be a great location to get some work done during the winter. I have a a lot of positives to say. This latest price increase is the only real negative but since the prices were all substantially increased (slice used to be 4.50) it's a pretty big negative for me. Was only there for about 5 minutes waiting for coffees and snacks on our way out of Truckee to go back home, and it was the best coffee shop experience I've had... The service was quick yet they all somehow created such a personal connection and lasting effect in a short amount of time as they wished us safe travels home. I love coming here on a regular basis. I ordered my latte and then when they called my name I went to get it as usual and asked for a lid because I didn't see the correct lid. When I asked the guy that made my coffee for a lid- he said and I quote with a nasty tone "THEY ARE RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!" Extremely rude and unwarranted. It doesn't cost anything to be kind. It is a pure reflection on this business. We spent $27 for coffee and a sandwich and frittata. I expect to be treated as he would like to be treated . I am very dissatisfied with the service . We were vacationing in Truckee and stumbled upon this place, and we love it! The drip coffee was very good (much more to my liking than Peets or Starbucks) and I like that they offer several "milk" options, including heavy cream. My family of 5 tried several of the bakery options, and they were all quite good. There was a case that was dedicated to gluten-free options, and we tried a few of them, too--they were great, without regard to any disclaimer. Over 3 visits, I've tried the gf donut holes, coffee cake, and pecan bar. I think the coffee cake is my favorite so far, though everything was truly awesome. My husband (who eats gluten) is a big fan of the cinnamon roll. I wish they made a gf version of that!!! Maybe one day?? Even though the coffee was not my favorite, I am still giving this place 5 stars because of the variety of tasty pastries and the helpful service. I've been coming here for a few months and loved it for the first month or so. Something has turned at this place. The employees do not care. They don't greet you the same anymore, they're wildly slow, and they RARELY empty the dirty dish container or wipe down the tables. The tip of the iceberg, though, was today when we ordered a bagel. It was already taking far too long, but after about ten minutes of waiting, an employee who had just been chatting with another employee in the dining area and touching his face went behind the counter and grabbed a bagel with bare hands. When he brought it out we asked if he washed his hands and he admitted he didn't and made a new one. I'll miss coming here but I really can't tolerate it anymore. read more
