Visited here for an afternoon pick me up, and other than the fact that it's pretty tough to find, this was a great place to grab a cup of high quality coffee. I'm a huge fan of Coffeebar in general, so when I saw a location I had never known about or been to, I threw it straight into the map and headed over around 1 PM. It took me 2-3 laps around the block to realize this place was tucked in an alleyway. It's a true hidden gem. I almost gave up when I couldn't find it and the map directions didn't make much sense. This location is a small shop with only a little bit of seating indoors and a few tables outdoors. This is primarily the roasters location, so it's a great place to enjoy the freshest of coffee but also a great place to purchase beans. They had a very large selection of beans for purchase. They still offer a decent menu and a few snacks, though much smaller than the other location. My wife enjoyed a matcha and I enjoyed one of the exclusive roastery blends on drip. Both drinks were very good. The quality of the drip coffee was superior. I want to visit again and try a coffee flight. That's something I've always wanted to do. There is outside patio when the weather is nice and not chilly. When the weather is chilly then we get indoor seating which isn't big but cozy to meet and mingle with new coffee buddies. . I love coming here for the coffee flights. It's 7.50 for a espresso milk, even comes with a latte design, espresso shot, hot coffee too. It's great to taste the beans locally roast in house as you can see when you walk into the cafe. So good and so fresh. I love a good taste of all coffee offer in the flight. . coffeebar comes across as a shop that knows what it wasn't and goes for it. It doesn't want people setting up shop for hours there for work, meeting large groups to hang out, or being a tourists convenient drop by. What it does want is to make well priced good coffee to those who truly want to find it. Everything about this place shows it. The vast majority of the roaster is dedicated to making the coffee with only a few seats for the guests. The only sounds you will hear is the grinding of the beans, people chatting and the other coffeeshop white noise (with no music to be heard). The coffee itself is at its simplest form and better off for it. They even have the option of a coffee flight to try a range of beans in a variety of styles. The slightly off-the-beaten path location means most who go here seem like regulars and even if they aren't, the staff treat them as such. They have well crafted mugs that show off the coffee well and while I didn't ask about it, it sounds like they have a cup return program for those who want to take coffee on the go but don't have their own. It is refreshing to see a company take waste seriously in a city that often doesn't. One way or another, I would recommend making coffeebar roasters a ritual in your morning routine. read more

We were in Reno for 2 days, and needed our dose of coffee. The only coffee shop our hotel had was Sbucks and I'm not a fan. We prefer local shops and we found this one. It called our attention because of the roasters. It is kinda hidden and we had to walk behind buildings through an alley to find it. They have a roaster right behind their counter which is very unique. Their merch is super cute and very nature themed. The barista was very friendly and she suggested that my fiancée to try their unique blend which has a blend of flavors he likes like bourbon or whiskey, I recall. I tried their other blend which was pretty tasty. We both loved our coffee and it was perfect size too. We'll definitely be back when we go back to Reno. read more

Wow - what a morning experience! We landed at RNO and made our way over to Coffeebar Roastery for our first stop. We weren't exactly sure where the coffee shop was located, so we parked on the street and wandered around the alley, but turns out, there's plenty of parking directly in front of the shop and around the side - and street parking of course. We opted for the flight, which comes with a sampler of an espresso shot, Americano, and latte (with latte art!), and we got an almond croissant to go with it. The staff/barista asked us if we wanted the Zephyr (chocolate notes) or their single origin with Thai basil notes (so interesting!). We opted for the single origin to try something more unique - I can't say we loved it but it wasn't bad and I'm glad we tried it. Almond croissant was big and a great accompaniment with the coffee flight - crispy on the outside with layers and soft on the inside. We loved watching the staff roast the coffee beans and enjoying the industrial vibe of this shop. When we find ourselves back in Reno, we'll be back! read more

Hi! I'm Ly and I'm a coffee snob! I love my single origin espresso and this is one of the best places in town to experience it. They rotate their beans often, so I get to experience all kinds of regions before I buy my bags to take home. On the rare day that I'm seeking a different drink of choice, I can opt for their delicious mocha, which uses another local company's scrumptious chocolate to make their syrup. Or I will order up a dirty roobios chai with a sprinkle of cardamom on top. Or I will treat myself to a matcha latte. Not sure which way you like your joe? I recommend the flight: a single espresso, a single shot macchiato (with whole or oat milk), and a cup of brew. What I love almost as much as my S.O. espressos are the interactions with the baristas, whether it's geeking out about the flavors that come from the different regions or inquiring about the music they're playing overhead. The variety of seating adds to the aesthetics, providing indoor choices of a couch, high top tables, or at the bar overlooking the roaster. Yes, here's where all the roasting happens. Just inside the front door to the left is the roaster. You can watch and talk to the roaster. Discover new things about the coffee you love. Mocha's, latte's, and flights. Select tea drinks. The freshest bags of beans are all for sale here. Inside is small, seating for maybe 10-12 people. A great patio area for plenty more. Roastery has its own parking lot. For 13 plus a handicap. Some of the maps are incorrect. It say it is on Haskell. If you're on Haskell, it's behind the house. Damn you Coffeebar for finding a way to make my mornings even better. Damn you Coffeebar for making me change up my routine! Damn you Coffeebar for giving me more reasons to love you! Stopped in to Resupply for the home brew with my usual 2 for $25 Monday deal, but after a quick perusal of the selection, noting no natural processed offerings in the counter, I inquired about the new PNG natural with the fancy "reserve" label. The prior time I was in I bought the washed processed version of the same coffee and found it to be phenomenal, and naturally (pun intended) this was not part of the deal, as this is a limited time and limited supply offering, so I was faced with a decision. While deciding, the team was able to find some of the Gorilla Summit natural, which meant I could go with the 2 for $25, but this Reserve kept poking at me. In the end, price be damned ($19/bag), I had to go with the Reserve because that washed version was so delicious, and I realized that by adding this single bag to the supply, I would have enough to tide me over until a full two bag re supply! If you can find this place, you will really enjoy your coffee experience here. Our directions kept telling us that we had arrived, but we only saw houses. Turns out it's behind the houses in an alleyway. There is parking back there if you can find the alleyway. But it was just a short walk from the street where we decided to park. We like the inside decor and vibe. They have inside seating and a nice outdoor patio for seating. Everyone was very friendly. After chatting about their beans, we did their flight of coffee and a pour over. The flight of coffee is quite fun although we know for certain now that we do not like espresso. But it was still fun to try it. The pour over was good but we would try a different bean next time. We l look forward to coming back the next time we visit Reno. read more

Coffee in Reno seems to have a couple of different tiers. Bottom tier would be taken up by the " small local establishments that don't really care about the beans they are getting you. Farmers? Dark Roast from that one guy? Illy? McDonalds? Drive through? Starbucks? All bottom tier coffee. Next tier would be coffee places that don't get the best beans, but they have baristas that are starting to care about the finite craft. The places in this middle tier are..... good! They are worth walking 3 or blocks to get. They have nice places with great views. They might even single source their coffees or have a quality coffee supplier. The top tier would be just a small handful of places. They have training programs in place. They pay attention to details while they are pulling the shot. They never let the steaming wand scream into your milk. They take longer to get your coffee to you but that coffee will be worth the extra buck you spend. They will have very friendly baristas that can tell you the notes of the particular blend or bean they have on single origin. They don't have syrup bottles lining up behind the counter. They don't have multiple sizes of cappuccinos. They dial in the espresso throughout the day. They have cuppings for the employees on a weekly basis. They are constantly honing their craft and trying to make it better. The Roastery is doing all of that. In a new beautiful space just off Virginia in Midtown. Exposed brick is what Midtown is chock full of, and this open and airy space is great. This is a slow bar where coffee is the canvass and paint for artists bringing great "dark art" to Reno and Northern California. This Roastery operates as a sort of hub for all of the Coffeebar locations. They just opened so keep your eyes peeled on this location. You never know what events might come up in the coming months. Cuppings? Classes? Veritical Coffee in Downtown Reno closed and they basically moved the business over here into their own space. With parking. Did ya hear that? They have parking for when you want to get a cup of coffee and don't want to pay $2 just to get the coffee. This place is like heaven. The drink menu is pretty straight forward. Coffee, Coffees with milk, Teas, and a fantastic Guiseppe Chai. One thing that you must try is the Mocha. I would hazard to say it's the best straight up mocha in town. read more

Wonderful coffee in a serene outdoor space (4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact) I almost missed the Coffeebar Roastery but I'm glad I doubled back to find it. It's really on the lane with no name that runs between Haskell and S. Virginia - if you're walking along Haskell there's a space where 1030 should be and Coffeebar is behind that plot. There's lots of seating outside their red-brick building, including several small tables with lovely mosaic tiles, a large table for 6, and a sofa under a canopy. This seating area, which is well secluded from traffic, combined with Coffeebar's great music selection make this a very chill spot to forget your Covid woes. And their coffee is great too! The friendly Barista introduced me to a few coffees - both natural processed (the entire coffee cherry is dried before the bean is separated from the pulp) which saves on water and often makes the coffee more fruity and delicious. I decided to risk over-caffeinating and have both of them: the Costa Rica Finca Lucerito as a Gibraltar and the Ethiopian Naia Bombe as a pour-over. This was my first ever Gibraltar - made with Oatly oat milk and a sprinkle of sugar on top - and it was so delicious! The Ethiopian coffee was so lacking in bitterness that I was able to drink it without milk or sugar (which is rare for me). They also do flights - either different beans in the same format (e.g., espresso) or the same beans in multiple formats (Gibraltar and espresso) so it's a good spot for a coffee education. Prices were reasonable considering the high quality - it was $7 total for the Gibraltar and the pour-over. I'm also giving Coffeebar 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact for the following reasons: * Coffeebar have a direct trade relationship with coffee farmers. The benefits of this vary by coffee farm - it may be a better price for the farmer and/or more sustainable farming practices. * For example, the Costa Rica Finca Lucerito comes through collaboration with Sustainable Management Services (SMS) in Costa Rica. SMS do agricultural research in Central America to increase sustainability (e.g., improved fertilization techniques and coffee varieties that are more resistant to disease). * Having said that, Coffeebar don't provide a lot of detail, compared to some other roasters (e.g., Temple Coffee in Davis strives for transparency in actual prices paid to farmers). Even on the blog posts dedicated to each coffee variety, there's often a lack of useful information. For example, their Thai coffee is grown in Doi Inthanon National Park but there's no discussion on the environmental impact of the farm (e.g., shade cover, which is often lacking in Asian coffee farms). There's a decent blog post by David Wilson on why Coffeebar wants to move beyond coffee that's certified (e.g., organic) but in order to do that they need to raise the bar on their communication - seriously! Otherwise, how do we tell them apart from roasters that are only paying lip-service to their social and environmental impact? * I like that they provided glasses and mugs for having coffee in-house when so many have abandoned them (for no good reason) during lockdown. * For disposable cups, Coffeebar are partnering with reCUP which make cups that are designed to be recyclable. The cups are generally not compostable as they still contain a plastic liner (just less plastic than normal). * There's a 75 cent charge for alternative milk listed on the menu - that's a fairly steep penalty for choosing plant-based milk. Having said that, I wasn't charged extra for having Oatly in my Gibraltar :) * Their coffee-bean packages are pretty (and award-winning) but it's a pity they're not compostable (e.g., like Counter Culture Coffee) * On their website you can find info on their suppliers for food ingredients (listed under Partners) including some familiar good names like Central Milling organic flour and Petaluma Creamery grass-fed butter. read more

Wow. Terrific experience... I don't know how I lived in Reno for so long without ever trying this place until now. I visited the Coffeebar Roastery once, a couple years ago, during a coffee crawl but it was packed and I didn't get the whole experience. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. It felt extremely comfortable to sit outside here in post-COVID times. I ordered the flight. They used their newest-roasted beans in three different drinks for the flight. It consisted of an espresso, a small latte (the staff told me it's called a Gibraltar latte), a pour-over coffee, and a sparkling water to cleanse the palate in between coffees. I enjoyed all parts of the flight and I enjoyed the latte so much that I had to hold myself back from getting another one to go or else I'd be on a caffeine high all day. This is a place that really appreciates and... as bougie as it sounds... respects coffee. I'm already looking forward to coming back. read more

Small parking lot is available to park, however there are many street parking spots around the area as well. I enjoy the fact it's a roastery, and you can just smell the aroma of all the roasted beans, which is so calming for me.The space itself is slightly tight and has limited seated, but if you come in early enough or on the weekdays it shouldn't be too difficult. There is one couch with a table and the rest are barstools at the counter. Outdoor patio would be a delight during the summer time. Wondering about the menu and the coffee? They have the standard which includes, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, pour over, cold brew and etc. They also, have Gibraltars (a personal favorite) You can also get a flight of coffee, on the menu known as "one & one", "this & that" and "flight". Yes, you read that right, a COFFEE FLIGHT!! What a time to be alive!!! I got the "one & one" it was the Gibraltar, a shot of espresso and sparkling water for cleanse your palette. I loved it, the coffee they have is heavenly. I didn't have too much of an interaction with the baristas, but from the minimal interaction I had, the experience was pleasant. I don't have any constructive criticism other than I wish they were open longer than 1pm. Everything other reviewers has said is true. This place sounds, smells, and feels like great coffee! Bear in mind, however, that this is a working coffee roastery and the beverage service is something of an afterthought. Nevertheless, a few quibbles or caveats: 1) it's really hard to find. So be apprised that you you need to turn onto a dirt alley off of Haskell St. (See my photo of exterior). Alternative, you can access it via the alley behind Rum, Lime, and Sugar on Virginia. 2) There is *very* little seating inside (see my photo: that's ALL there is, save a few barstools). The tables are small, not large enough for a newspaper if you're a dinosaur like me who likes to read the paper over coffee. However, there is a lot of nice seating outdoors. 3) There are precious few food items available. Three or four pastries under glass. I, for one, like to have food with my coffee. With all of that in mind, I would give this place 4.5 stars, but that's not an option, but my quibbles are enough to come in just below 5. My husband and I really enjoy this place for a morning get together. It is located tucked away on Haskell, so it is a little hard to find but a gem of a spot. My husband is such a coffee connoisseur and this is his absolute favorite place to come to talk business or bring friends. In the summer or spring, you can go outside and enjoy your coffee in the front of the store. Really relaxing. He always enjoys the espresso and spritzer. I am a plain Jane kind of girl where I just get a Vanilla latte, but is is so good. The depths of flavor and the vanilla they use does not over power the coffee. You still taste the deliciousness of the coffee and it reminds me very much of traveling to Austria and visiting the Italian cafes for coffee there. Their Roastery will not overwhelm the senses with the sharp notes of freshly ground Cuban dark roast in the air contrasted with the light and airy atmosphere of a alley Roastery. They have oat milk substitute and a cool kid coffee tasting bar vibe. Only tweak I'd make is to include a microwave or heat source to reheat their croissants, but I can understand their compromise because this place screams their focus on quality coffee. read more

Normally I love coffee bar, so I decided to try this place out. The girl working at the counter was SO rude. It's like I was annoying her that I wanted to order a coffee. Unfortunately, this place only offers oat milk as a dairy alternative, so I asked her what she recommended that doesn't require milk. She gives me an annoyed look and states "nothing. black coffee." The Coffeebar Roastery, located in Midtown, is something of a trimmed down, bare bones coffee house. As the name suggests, this is where the main Coffeebar on Mt. Rose Street does all their roasting. Stop in during the morning hours on Sunday or during the week, and you can see them hard at work cranking out some great, freshly roasted beans. I love places like this. Certainly hits close to what my ideal sort of coffee shop should be, with nothing to get between you and great quality coffee. They take the name "coffeebar" pretty literally here, in that it is almost JUST a bar for coffee. The building is a cool converted house, gutted to provide space, and give it a neat almost industrial feel. There are a couple tables, a few stools at the counter, and what looks like an outdoor patio for when the nice weather returns. Food options are limited to a few pastry selections, too. So all in all, it seems less like a café and more of just a pure shop for coffee. The coffee options themselves cover all your standard bases. Their menu consists of brewed coffee (pour over or cold brew) along with a menu of espresso favorites that range from Lattes to Gibraltars and beyond. The coffee here is seriously delicious, with perhaps my favorite Red Eye in the city. You can even order a coffee flight, which is either the same drink made with three different bean roasts, or the same bean roast made into three different drinks. Certainly a cool way to show off the flavor ranges of their product. And of course, you can grab bags of their house-roasted beans to take home with you. The service here has been very prompt and friendly. And it is interesting talking to the roasters as they work their magic. The coffee house itself is rather inconspicuous, located in the alleyway running parallel between Virginia and Haskell. There are a couple parking spaces next to the building, but I would highly advise parking in a neighboring lot or elsewhere nearby and making the short walk over, as driving in the alley can be rather tight at times. I can say for sure this is a really cool spot to get your caffeine fix. I highly recommend stopping by when cruising through Midtown. read more

Our patient barista made this with real loose leaf tea. I was pretty impressed and relieved at the same time. Chai tea is so hit or miss and this was definitely a hit. I had the best experience here when I happened to walk past this hidden little gem. It was awesome to see the coffee bean roasting happening steps away from me as I enjoyed what was the most delicious unsweetened espresso based drink I've ever had. I ordered the Gibraltar on the recommendation of Casey the barista. It is a cortado served in a Gibraltar glass. I chose the barista oat milk option. Every sip was so enjoyable. Great "hidden" gem. The coffee is super tasty, the guys are super friendly and the vibe is pretty chill. It's really neat seeing a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of coffee production while enjoying an americano. If I recall, they have a slightly different bean selection than their location on Mt. Rose so nice to try something a little different. They have outdoor seating and decent but limited indoor seating. Not sure if there is WiFi but they probably have the highest power plug to seat ratio i've ever seen!! If you're even remotely interested in non-starbucks coffee you've got to swing by and give it a try. They are only open the first part of the day though so do it earlier than later! read more
