So in a way, she's also a matchmaker for the adult patients because she gets our teeth in line before major events-- spring break is a big deal to 20 year olds! On a more serious note, she made me the best retainers! Taking into account how heavily I grind my teeth, she made them a little thicker than the normal type. If I hadn't relocated across the country, I would've had her make my replacements when I finally broke them almost 10 years later. My permanent retainer is still hanging on strong though! I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Vargas to determine whether I was a suitable candidate for adult orthodontics. The receptionist who answered my call was outstanding. Her warmth and professionalism convinced me to book an appointment, and she generously informed me that the initial consultation would be completely free, including full X-rays. This IS remarkable; most dental practices simply don't offer complimentary consultations... not in this very expensive world we live in . . When I arrived, the entire team greeted me with genuine friendliness and made me feel welcome. They performed comprehensive X-rays and photos ... That took at least 20 minutes Then .. I met with Dr. Vargas to discuss my case, he explained something I hadn't anticipated.... The X-rays and pictures taken revealed significant gum recession on my lower front teeth, and he was honest that orthodontic treatment could worsen the problem by creating deeper pockets around those teeth, potentially compromising their longevity. I was deeply disappointed. However, I appreciate Dr. Vargas's integrity in prioritizing my long-term dental health over making a sale. Given the extensive dental work I've had over the years and the multiple teeth I've already lost, his candid assessment was invaluable. I hate that the insurances only cover fluoride for kids 1x a year instead of 2x a year which is recommended so it forces me to pay $50 at the visit-that's annoying since I feel I pay enough every 2wks on insurance. The problem with this place that I have is the office staff. One lady is very nice but there's one girl with dark hair that's especially rude and unwelcoming. Every time we've been in she looks very miserable and I always feel like she doesn't want to be there and that she is annoyed by our presence. If they were nicer at the desk and more welcoming it would change the entire feel of that place & I would probably give 5 stars. I'm a nurse and when people are seeking medical care & have to be somewhere where they would rather not be in the 1st place, it seems to me it would only be appropriate to have kind hearted people and smiles when you are greeted. Compared to many of the other dentists in Gainesville, she is much more reasonably priced. However, even if I found cheaper I would never go somewhere else. She is extremely thorough and caring. I greatly appreciate when a dentist has honesty. A little over a year ago I saw another Gainesville dentist who I will not name as they have since gotten out of general dentistry and gone entirely to orthodontics. They told me a list of what all I needed but it was too much for me to pay and I was about to leave the country for an extended period of time. When I asked Dr. Patiño about what I was told I needed, she said that I didn't need any of those! I am glad she has the integrity to not make money off of people who trust what doctors tell them. And glad I didn't pay that other dentist for work I didn't need.

In the past, the doctor really seemed to care if you were in pain or not. A year ago, I returned to…read morethis doctor regarding an implant he had previously done years before. The implant began to bleed upon cleaning, so the doctor related that he needed to lay the gum back so it could be cleaned. After the healing process was completed with the cleaning; a lot of the gum was missing from the implant and the metal could be seen from the implant. The tooth with a crown in front of the implant was also missing gum as well. When pointing this out to the doctor several times, he did send me to a gum specialist to have a gum tissue graft on the tooth with the crown in front of the implant. The specialist did not want to do anything to the gum around the implant. However, the implant was still without gum and metal was still showing. The gum stayed sore so he sent me back to the gum specialist who I went to before and he dismissed me and said no one could see it because the tooth was in the back. Because this would be a favor to the doctor, I do not think the specialist wanted to deal with it. To this day, the gum remains sore and I cannot eat on that side of my mouth. What once used to be a comfortable tooth to chew with and a nice appearing gum line is now gone and there is ugly metal showing and to fix it has been estimated at thousands of dollars. Sadly, I am left with this problem and will have to pay out of my own pocket to fix it or try to live with the pain. I e-mailed the doctor but never heard back from him.
