I was given a trial supply for a week; however, by the second day, I experienced discomfort and headaches from the lenses. When I returned to inform the staff, I was told to wait until my full order arrived. During this waiting period, I requested a copy of my prescription to purchase glasses elsewhere. The staff hesitated to provide it, which is concerning as withholding a prescription from a patient is against the law. After insisting, I was finally given my prescription and ordered glasses from an external retailer. Ironically, my glasses arrived before the contact lenses I had initially ordered from Cohen's. When my contacts finally arrived, Dr. Martinez advised the staff to order three different brands for me to try. However, a month passed without any updates, despite the fact that I had already begun making payments for items I did not even have. Upon following up, I was told to continue making the payments. After an additional week and a half, I returned only to find out that my trial lenses had been sitting there without any notification to me. After trying the three different brands, I found that the most comfortable pair was actually cheaper than my original order. However, Cohen's attempted to charge me $50 more than the market price. Prior to this, I had researched the brand and its market value, confirming the overcharge. This experience highlights the lack of communication within this particular branch and reinforces the perception that their primary focus is profit rather than patient care. The eye exam was good and the doctor was friendly. We had a fun conversation and the exam was thorough and pleasant. He asked if I have considered contact lenses and I told him that I don't mind my glasses and he insisted that I should try them out. However when I got to the front desk they wanted to charge me for the eye exam for contact lenses. Why wouldn't the doctor say that it would be extra especially when I was adamant that I did not mind wearing glasses? Then the woman tells me that it's fine, she won't charge me. Cool. She shows me frames that are not covered by my insurance. The frames were $400 something but with my insurance it would come out to $200 something. I tell her that I don't want to pay that much for frames so she asks a man sitting at a desk if they can do the frames for $100. He says sure. Normally, I'd be happy about this but it seems a little weird considering the frames were originally $400 something. If I would've said yes the first time they would've charged me way more but because I kept saying no, they kept dropping the price. Felt wrong considering this cohens is in a low income neighborhood. I was annoyed and just told her to show me the free options because I refused to give them any more money than I believe they deserved. They should be more upfront about their services, what is and isn't covered by your insurance, and just put the accurate prices of the frames. Update: I emailed the customer service representative of the place since she asked me to contact her, it has been 1 week with no reply. Them replying back to bad Yelp reviews is a lame attempt to pretend they care. Horrible experience here: first, I changed my appointment and I called 2 days before to confirm it and they had no records of my appointment. They were able to squeeze me in but then requested both of my insurances, I told them only my union insurance covers vision benefits. They want to charge my medical insurance for the eye exam and my union for the glasses. I know their claim will be denied since other opticals have tried this but they didn't listen. I went to Cohens a few years ago and had a great experience. I saw the doctor who recommended I get glasses (first time I've been told that in my life) and the manager Isabelle helped me pick out my first pair. I left incredibly happy and found the experience positive. Fast forward to December 2021... it's time for a new eye exam and I opted to see a new optician closer to my work in Manhattan. After finishing the exam, she said "can I ask why you wear glasses?" I explained that I wear glasses because I was told I needed them and she looked puzzled and said "you really don't. You have basically 20/20 vision". I challenged back that at least the blue light lenses I'd paid extra for must help with computer work and she replied "maybe so, but the prescription you have isn't conducive to computer work." So Cohens sold me glasses I didn't need. And then sold me blue lenses, even though the glasses weren't meant to be worn for computer work (where I'd have the blue light exposure). Adding to my annoyance with Cohen, about a week after my recent eye appointment, the arm of one of my glasses came loose and detached from the frame. I took them to Cohens to see if they could fix it given that's where I'd purchased them (I had all the pins and pieces so I figured it was possible). Two different people (Isabelle being one of them) looked at the glasses and told me they couldn't be fixed and I'd have to replace them; providing a lengthy explanation as to why. I took the glasses the next day to my new optimists office in Manhattan and the guy behind the counter was like "that's easy", fixed them in less than 3 minutes, and didn't charge me anything. Cohens are obviously crooks who do not have the patient's best interest in mind. They're just trying to make money under the guise of healthcare. read more

I would give this place 5 stars because of the best and better improvements in this glasses store. Store is clean, well lit and everyone seems attentive. Didn't wait that long to take my annual eye exam with my mom and sister. The eye doctor, Dr. Kim seems to be in such a hurry to check for my eyes and it was quite straightforward to do the procedure. He definitely seems a lot nicer than before that he has a really good sense of humor, made me laugh during the procedure of which is better and not harsh at all to read some of the letters of what I can/can't see. Whenever I can't see, he let me try again and see it carefully without being critical. Also, he was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient with my sister today to try to get new contact lenses and prescription. I scheduled an eye exam primarily because I needed it for the DMV and without insurance, it costs around $60, which is a reasonable price. I went in for my appointment, the ladies in the front desk were super nice and the doctor who did my vision test was very friendly as well. I didn't necessarily need glasses but I thought it couldn't be that expensive so I humored the staff who sold the frames. Of course, they immediately picked out the designer glasses and I understand they are trying to make a sale but it was too obvious that they really only cared about that. They had a promotion wherein if you buy 1 pair of glasses, you get 50% off the 2nd one and one of the salesperson came up to me, "crunched up" some numbers and said if I bought 2 pairs today, I'll be paying 150 dollars less than the total price but the total still came up to be at about 1.2k. Practically speaking, who would spend that much on glasses? She acted as though she was doing me a favor but seriously, I was originally only going to pay $60. Make it make sense. It's upsetting when people in healthcare want to milk people of money. It shows a lack of compassion. I ended up buying 1 pair of glasses because the guy who was originally helping me was really nice. But still, I wouldn't really go back there, especially if you have a hard time saying no to people. They are extremely good at buttering you up. Just know, you can always opt out in buying glasses in the store and just taking the prescription and buying cheaper glasses online. Overall, would recommend the doctor in this location and the environment is welcoming but don't let them talk you into buying glasses more than $100. read more

Had to stand there waiting for at least five minutes while they ignored me and unboxed glasses before I asked someone for help. Once they called me in for the exam, I knew I would be late for work if I stayed any longer so I told the optometrist if I could reschedule for tomorrow or something and he said sure but seemed irritated. Well I order glasses and had an eye exam here on 7/8/2012 and the Optometrist was awesome, she knew the doctor who wrote my glasses Rx since she went to the college. I ordered Raybans with the Anti Reflective and Scratch resistant coating that's actually embedded in the glass, and I'm impressed, not a speck of dirt or smudges yet, I haven't even had to wipe these things once. The frames are lightweight and awesome, which is what I'd expect for paying over $445 for them. They did however take an extremely long time to procure, I didn't get my glasses until this Monday 8/27, which is over 6 weeks. I had to keep calling to check in, which was really annoying. They wanted to sell me the extended protection plan which was $99 and pretty much a ripoff in all cases. All in all, the service isn't so hot, and I probably won't return. i went here because it was the closest to my residence from the list that my insurance covered. Thinking my insurance will cover the cost: reimbursed amount was 9$ and they guided me to purchase a designer frame. The staff are usually well aware of insurances. They should guide the patient to what their insurance have for them and then ask if they're interested in purchasing a designer frame instead. The girl did not help me pick the right size either. Sorry but we take off our glasses from our faces to try new frames basically blindly, however they only care about their commissions. I also mentioned to her to please show me glasses that will be right for my small face. She shrugged her shoulders. I ended up paying 400+ for the frames out of my pocket and the glasses were huge for my face. i will never go back there. Worst experience ever in my life!! I never leave bad reviews, but this experience needs to be stated out LOUD and CLEAR. So, it was when I went back to collect my eyeglasses after 2 weeks of eye exam. I was the only one standing there waiting for the lady(who seems like a manager/acts like an owner) to ask me to come forward. There was another girl assisting her. She saw me as well while she was answering the phone. They both eventually saw me standing there, while my husband was running in and out taking care of our 2 year old. 10 minutes past, no hi and hello. I didn't mind at all as it seems like they both were busy doing something. Then a guy came in, and within minutes, a girl called him and ask him how can she help him? Was I invisible these whole time??? I told the man I was here on line before him, and asked the girl working there, "Didn't you saw me waiting here the whole time for someone to help me out?" She replied, "I didn't saw you." I told her, there was no way she didn't saw me standing near the front desk!! The lady/manager shouted, "IT'S NO BIG DEAL, we will help you both" but started assisting the guy. I didn't assumed anything at this point, but kept on saying "Unbelievable! Why no one is helping me out?" No response! Well, it didn't END THERE!! She told the girl to go grab his glasses. Then I heard the lady asking an assistant girl, "Whose this?" (The girl had two spray lens cleaner) Assistant told her one is for me. The lady took the both and put it in that guy's stuffs and apologized to him nicely saying "sorry and have a nice day." He was done within few minutes of walking in! Then she went to do her own thing. Didn't said a word to me. Ultimately, that girl gave me my eyeglasses. Just glasses. Oh If I am not wrong, you get COHEN's lens spray cleaners along with your eyeglasses! Correct me if I am wrong here. Overall, I have no words for her rude behavior. Honestly, I am a very shy person and I don't get in argument and I always let things slide by. However, I was speechless and still can't fathom the event that occurred. I don't know what to call this kind of a behavior but a COMPLETE DISCRIMINATION. I didn't felt this low of a person my entire life. Thus, I ended up with tears and while exiting I asked, "Is it because I didn't bought any designer glasses and that guy bought it? Why??" I want to know why I was treated that way? I would like the business owner or COHEN's representatives to speak with her regarding this incident. I had an examination on 7/18/2013. As the examination was in progress, I realized that the technician was not disinfecting the machinery he was using to test me or other customers. When the exam was over, he left the room, I followed and caught him telling the sales person to try to push /sale me unneeded prescribed sunglasses. When they realized I was there, they continued as if nothing. The sales woman (being generous with the term) was rude, crass, uninformative and never explained store policies or offer intelligible answers to questions asked. Her attitude was that of a mean, bored individual who doesn't like her job and hates customers even more. After contacting the store 718-458-8800 and speaking to the "manager" Ivette for customer service on the situation, this Ivette was worse than the sales person. Over the phone, she spoke loudly, continuously (not giving me the opportunity the express my situation), and out right accused me of not knowing how to read or use a credit card ! I went in because I can't see fine print....the transaction receipt I signed was an inch wide and two inches long. After signing, they present you with a large receipt with red lettering saying no refunds. Beware of the place, they are horrible especially if you have Medicare, Medicaid or a health plan that has low coverage.Also, I called the main office for Cohen's at 516-465-6975 and spoke to Katrina. She was of no help, became cold after hearing about my experience and would not answer the calls I later made. What I learned about this place was not to return, complain to your health insurance so they can change services to another company, and the technician (I don't think he is an optometrist since he recommended I see an optometrist for my condition) pays over $ 3200 for rent for his apartment (he was bragging to his coworkers). Now we know where he's getting the money. BEWARE...ENTER KNOWING YOU WILL BE MISTREATED AND SCAMMED ! I would not give it a star, but there isn't such a rating. read more

The doctor on-site is great. Friendly, personable, knowledgable and efficient. If you have a lot of time, you'll be fine with the pace you are serviced before and after you see the doctor. The lady who eventually helped me is nice but the atmosphere in here is what you would expect in a beach town (or the DMV): No rush, they'll get to you when they get to you. We recently had an emergency with my sister's contact lenses. She was visiting from Mexico and we accidentally threw the contacts away. Without a prescription no one would sell new pairs, but here the manager went out of her way and provided my sister with a pair without a charge. It was amazing and absolutely empathetic. This Choen's Fashion Optical had me leave with a a VERY unsatisfied and BELIEVABLY disappointed feeling. The women was rushing the sale although there were no other customers in the store. This location closes at 7pm but LOCKED the doors at 6-6:10pm. After looking at a pair of glasses I expressed interest in, she STARTED WRITING a RECEIPT for it. I had to tell her not to write it because I was still looking. Every pair of glasses I wanted to see, she would groan to get them. Very UNPROFESSIONAL. My family and I have had great experiences with various Cohen's across the city and wanted to support our local store. But this was one of the strangest experiences I've ever had. It included one of the store workers confirming my phone # by shouting it across the store, yelling to her colleague that I didn't speak Spanish (even though her colleague wasn't speaking to me, and actually I do speak Spanish), and handing me back someone else's insurance card- when I went to the front to explain it wasn't mine, she brushed it off like it was no big thing. After 40 mins of waiting (which was fine), I went to the eye tech who was super nice and professional. I waited again for the optometrist and based on that experience alone, I would not recommend this store to anyone. He was hyper when I walked in, but figured because they were busy he was moving quickly. The exam went downhill from there, he repeatedly kept hitting my arm, didn't turn on the backlight for the letters and mocked me when I said I couldn't see them, told me to get out of the seat to see the letters and stand close to him, blurred the lenses more than during a regular exam and when I said I couldn't see some of the bottom rows he reacted with "what's wrong with you, what do you mean you can't see it?" I eventually stopped talking to the optometrist as he made me so uncomfortable. Not sure if he thought I was younger than I am, or didn't speak English- neither of these should matter- he was incredibly aggressive in his exam and one of the least professional optometrists I've met. He should not be practicing and that store needs to work on its overall customer service in general. When I came out, I was asked if I wanted contacts, I asked if they'd called Davis Vision to check eligibility. Store person said I needed to call them, when I said that wasn't the case usually, she pulled a face but verified online within minutes. Finally, when I requested a copy of my eye Rx, they'd spelled my name wrong, but that seemed so minor by the end. This was one of the worst Cohen's I have dealt with. They are completely inept and beyond rude. I ordered contacts, and 3 months later still no contacts. When I called them (for the 4th time) to find out where my contacts were. "You never came to pick up the contacts". We tried calling you". Really? because I have no records on my phone from Cohen's optical ever calling. Apparently, my contacts came and went. Evette apparently is the manager and she is a complete disgrace. This place sucks. First of all, I booked an appointment on zocdoc and wanted to get my prescription for both contacts and glasses. They used some machines to do some testing before the doctor could see me but right before he called me he said to speak with this lady because i had to pay 150$ for a contacts lens exam because i had astigmatism. She even blamed it on affinity saying theyd cover my eyeglass prescription exam but not my contacts. This is funny cause they had me waiting almost an hour just to tell me this. Haha whats even better is that my sister got her contacts and glasses prescription from this doctor on the same block and affinity covered it with no co pay. Shows how greedy this store can be. DO NOT COME HERE!! i would give zero stars as well!!! I had $150 worth in store credit so decided i would schedule an appointment there for RX glasses. When i first went in and scheduled an appointment every one was pleasant and nice, i checked out the price range of frames and everything seemed reasonably affordable. I came on a diff day for my scheduled appointment to see the MD. The doctor was nice and friendly and i have no complaints. then, i go to pick out glasses and the girls behind the counter directed me straight to the designer section. When i saw Cheaper glasses that i liked and asked if i could get those the receptionist explained that those frames are for union workers only and that i had to chose one of the designer frames. i asked if i could get a refund because all of there options wasn't good for me and she told me very rudely no because i already saw the MD and my insurance would not retract the visit (then she started talking in Spanish, Guess she thought i didn't speak Spanish. i heard her telling her associate, why is she making a big deal , she just needs to choose frames and pay for it. she is so Cheap which made me feel uncomfortable and horrible). i had to buy one of their frames. upset i ended up choosing the cheapest frames i could possibly find which were $250 Dolce and Gabbana frames. Then she said that i would have to add anti-scratch and glare on the lenses. in the end they argued with me regarding my store credit, and used excuses like my INS doesn't cover Lenses or frames only the doctors fee. After the store credit was finally applied i still ended up with a $400 dollar bill. ( i also inquired about ordering Contacts just to get their price range. she she told me it would come out to another $350 and she said that was deal. i called 1800contacts and got the contacts for $150) on top of that they said i would get my glasses in 1 week and they would call me. i called for 6 weeks and my glasses never came, i finally went to the store and they said oh we received them 2 days ago yet never received a call to pick them up. i was very unhappy but that's not even the end of my experience. the receptionist explained to me that if ANYTHING ever happens to the glasses they would be replaced at no charge. I asked her, Anything? she said "YES anything". OK, So unfortunately my puppy got a hold of my glasses and scratched up the lenses and frames. i went back to see if the can be fixed since the receptionist said anything. they changed the staff around thank god. now this staff seemed very nice a total 10 from their last set but i still was unhappy with the results. the first associate told me i had already replaced them once which was a lie, she then forwards me to the store manager who had me waiting 1 hour for her to only tell me that she will not replace them because the damage was done by my dog and the best she can do is give me $25 store credit as explained on their contract that was never given to me nor did i sign. understandable, that's how it usually is when your dog damages your property but i never received the contract that she was showing me, the last receptionist gave me wrong information, you can tell that they work off commission. the doctors are nice, their frames are pretty so expect to pay if you come here, but the staff makes this place so horrid. in the END in my opinion, DO NOT COME HERE!! i will be much happier in a mom and pop Optometrist or you'll prob be better off going to Cohen in the mall, they have way more frames to choose from!!!.
