I moved to the West SYDE- a year and a half ago, not knowing: where to get my oil changed, where to find a decent bowl of Pho and many other things that I took for granted in Ballard for the past 10 years. So, when I began asking the locals where to take my car for an oil change, most of them said things like Midas, Jiffy Lube and "I just take it to the dealer". Well, for me this won't do. So, I had been just loading up the wagon's and continuing North to Matt's in Greenwood. Noah is an outlier in the auto trade and I am very grateful for Cohesive Garage. I recently bought my 16 year old son his first car. An affordable but rare and lovely 2007 bmw 530i. (I know, not smart) I got carried away. 3 days after purchase, the service engine lights ticked on and all systems had shut down by the weekend. I had the car towed to Cohesive on the advice from a trusted friend. The car "lit up like a Christmas tree" with 5 codes. I was reasonably braced to accept that the repairs would likely exceed the value of the vehicle. My lawyer had already prepared to file motions against the dealership that sold me the car and refused to take it back. I was pleasantly shocked when Noah saved the day a week later. He had discovered that all of the problems and false codes were coming from a loose wire. His fee for his diagnostics, work, multiple test drives etc. was under $400. . . Incredible. I planned to sell the car ASAP if we managed to get out of this situation but now we've got Cohesive in our corner so I'm keeping this ridiculous vehicle. Definitely the best experience I have ever had getting my car worked on. I recommend this place to everyone now. Noah saved me hundreds of dollars off of what other places had quoted me on the rear suspension of my Lincoln Towncar. His high-quality, low-cost work made it so I could actually keep my car instead of buying a new one. Since my car is ancient and falling apart I bring it to him regularly now for everything from a leaking sun roof to aging brake pads. Noah continues to impress me with his fast and excellent service! I slid into a curb during the snow storm in January, and totally rendered my VW Golf immobile. My insurance company towed it to Les Schwabb Tires in Ballard - who quoted the damage at $1300. Yikes. So immediately I called Noah - and I'm so glad I did! He replaced the bent axle(!), among other things, and had me back in my car in just 2 days! He also saved me so much money! So I called Noah the owner and asked if he could install my front lip and Injen Intake and he said yes. Arrived to the shop for my appointment and Noah was very friendly and got right to work. Snowmagedon 2012 Jan 17th. I get off work and pick up a couple new tires for my old Ford Taurus thinking all is good and getting ready to go Rally in some parking lots ! Good plan right ? Apparently nobody told my car, I started to hear a strange rattling sound in my engine compartment :( after having someone take a quick look at it, i'm informed that my water pump is on its way out and needs to be replaced soon. So I called up my usual mechanic and turns out he's sick, luckily I have a few days off work to be snowed in so I park my American Classic out front and turn to Yelp to find a shop. Cohesive Garage- 8 -5 star ratings, and all of them raving about this Noah guy... hmmm maybe they are all his buddies I think, but I decide to give him a call anyway and i'm sure glad that I did. My first phone call went a little like this... Me- Hey if your not too busy I was wondering if I could get an estimate on a water pump replacement for my Taurus. Noah- To be honest I don't know the exact numbers off hand, but i'll tell you this, i'll do it for as cheap as possible. Noah then continued to quote me some standard numbers for the part and his hourly rate and gave me a baseline estimate that seemed to me to be VERY fair and reasonable. We set up an apt and I was on my way to getting things fixed.... or so I thought. Couple days pass and my Appointment is coming up and the snow and ice has been coming in heavy. I wake up early throw the chains on my ride and am hoping that the shop is still going to be open for business. After a short phone call with Noah he let me know that if I could make it in, he would be there to fix my car. I dropped it off, He fixed it, done deal. This guy is a straight shooter, with fair pricing thats not trying to jack you around. I called and got one other estimate for this same job at Midus and they wanted $230 more. I am a refugee from Stealerships. They try to upsell you, convince you the problem is all in your mind and try to make you feel better about them by washing your car after the service. I can wash my own car. Noah is straightforward, fair and knowledgeable. He is resourceful and pragmatic. I have only used him once but I will be back. The only reason he is not getting five stars is because it is just a bit clunky to get my car over there and get to work, but there is a bus line to downtown about a ten minute walk away, or Uber, of course. This last part is just going to me getting used to the logistics of dropping off and picking up. I hope to not be over there much, of course, but I am so relieved that I now have a friend in the car repair business! And a shout out to one of my car aficionado friends who gave me a great shout out for Noah, reinforcing my choice. Honestly the best shop I've taken my car to. I took my car here because of a squeak coming from the front end of my car. The dealership quoted me $2,500 to replace just about every component in the suspension and after taking it to Noah, it turned out to be a loose bolt from a previous mechanic's terrible job. Not only did he save me thousands, but he put in the time and effort to go over the car and address other areas previous mechanics rushed over. Noah does a great job by taking the time to listen to your cars symptoms, and looks for the problem, not just the easy money/replace everything mentality most other shops and dealerships go after. I have been so let down with shops before cutting corners and leaving me with more issues then when I came in, but I can honestly breathe a sigh of relief now knowing my car is in a safe state and it's in good hands with Noah. I have to admit, I'm 28 years old and I'd never taken my car to a mechanic. I'm that lazy girl who always makes my dad or boyfriend do it for me, which worked fine as long as I was living in California. But then I moved to Seattle. And I drive my car about a million miles a year. I knew it needed an oil change, maybe breaks and the little "maintenance required" light was on, so I decided to be a grown up and find myself a place to take my car (thanks Yelpers for making it an easy decision!). I called and set up a time to bring it in on my day off to get it check out. Noah was super friendly on the phone and didn't make me feel like a moron girl when I actually said the words "the little maintenance light thingy is on - I don't know what my car wants." I dropped my car off - 30 minutes after I was supposed to - hey, it's hard to way up on your day off sometimes! I had a friend pick me up and went about my day. A few hours later, Noah gave me a call to ask what I wanted him to do, because it seemed I really needed new rotors but my break pads had plenty of life left. I told him OK to get the rotors done/change the oil/ whatever else he thought it needed. A few more hours later he called to let me know it was done but since I couldn't get a ride back right away, he let me give him my CC number over the phone and I came to pick up the car after hours. The whole thing cost me way less than I was expecting and as if everything being perfect already wasn't good enough, he sent me an email later that day saying that he'd noticed one of my brake lights was out and forgot to fix it but if I swung by whenever I had time, he'd take care of it for free. Awesome, right? I didn't end up doing that because I instead made a friend do it at home for me (lazy girl here, remember?), but I seriously appreciated that he offered. read more

We drove away and decided to find someplace closer to home. Glad we found Cohesive Garage on Yelp that day. We just stopped by and Noah checked our car for us. He was able to order the part that day and he had it the next day. Now that is fast! He let us know about another issue that would probably need to be looked at the next time we had an oil change. I took my car here for an oil change today, based on the great yelp reviews, and was not disappointed. The owner is genuinely friendly and nice (and I'm a wary type who isn't ready to say that about most people who appear friendly on the surface). He seemed knowledgeable and he told me that my brake pads were close to needing replacement without doing the hard-sell scare tactics that many repair shops do (you will DIE! Today! Unless you buy this expensive part! From us!). I felt like he explained things in terms I, a person who has almost no knowledge about the inner workings of cars, could understand, yet not in a condescending way at all.
