My girlfriend brought home crepes from this cafeand they were winderful. Theybwere the Versatile style crepes. She got the strawberry, and I ordered the banana crepes. She also got me a Nutella latte which is not an easy find in this area. In fact, I have yet to find the Nutella latte anywhere else. The crepes were still hot by the time she got back to our apartment, so there was no need to heat them up in the microwave. The cafe itself is very small, and I think that the place could have been a one bedroom apartment back in the day. Everything else is great, especially the awesome crepes and latte drinks. The crepe is definitely good. I stick to the simple French kiss. The vibes as others have said have been noticed. I have visited twice, both times something felt a bit off. I felt the service was a bit pushy and contradicting," next time you need to go inside for your crepe" when I just saw a server deliver a crepe to another table without saying that exact comment. Then prompting me twice to have a seat when I wanted to stand and look around. Maybe there was something I misunderstood, but I don't want to be scolded when I'm just trying to get my crepe on. Little quaint place that is not obvious from the outside. Fortunately there were signs outside that said I was at the right place and to come in. I was the only customer on this weekday morning. The one man working there was nice, friendly, and helpful. The crepe was delicious and fresh. I was suggested to eat it handheld, which made sense since it was a crisper crepe. Amazing crepe! I would've liked to order another, but the items here are a bit pricey. I'd like to come here again next time! The chai was okay. I walked past at least four other coffee shops just to support this particular coffee café. I made a conscious choice to spend my money here and ended up purchasing both a coffee and a crêpe, totaling around $15 -- even though my original intention was just to grab a quick coffee. After receiving my order, I politely asked if they had Wi-Fi available. The gentleman behind the counter went to the tablet to retrieve the information, but then made an unnecessary and uncomfortable comment: "Next time, tip and we won't mind giving you the Wi-Fi -- we don't just give it out." He also mentioned something about a young girl who goes to college, which made the comment feel even more awkward and inappropriate. I took the time to explain to him that his comment was not only unprofessional but also extremely disappointing. As a paying customer who chose this place over several others, I expected basic courtesy -- not to be guilt-tripped or shamed over something as small as a Wi-Fi request. The experience left a bad taste and completely overshadowed the quality of the food and coffee. Review update: My friend was verbally ATTACKED and asked to "immediately get up and leave" by the owner. This is shocking for any stablishment that deals with real people. Specially since my friend had done nothing wrong other than to take a couple of minutes to decide whether he wanted to stay or not. If your business is stressing you out, or you do not clearly know how to do business, stay out of business, "man". The owner is not a businessman, he is simply someone who wants to have a place to drink and smoke all day, everyday. The music is really loud and their no-computer/electronics policy is something unheard of and ridiculous. If you want to "bring Paris to DC", you are in the wrong country. Here, people WORK. And your little shop is not going to make it as it lacks all things customer service. Your employees cared scared of you as you may already know. Very sad and sorry for you. I have tried through the last 3 years to bring other customers besides me, and this is what I get. The coffee shop is cozy and has a nice ambiance, I agree, but the customer service is very poor. I was just reading my notes for about an hour, but the owner kept glancing at me as if staying for a long time and reading wasn't allowed. That day, I ordered a latte and a crepe. When I was about to leave, I thanked the owner, but they didn't even respond and just snubbed me. It was obvious they were annoyed that I stayed for a while. If you're planning to stay here for some time, this is not the perfect place for you. Poor customer service. read more

This was an empty coffee shop. I requested tea and a crepe with banana. The music was really loud and I stopped in there for a quiet moment. I asked the gentleman if he would turn the music down a bit. He did but not enough to make a difference. I was moving to sit outside in the cold due to the loud music to wait for the crepe. At that point I saw the gentleman was cutting the banana and handling it with his bare hands. I cancelled the order and left. When I got a message from Square to rate the experience I responded about the noise and department of health violation. This is the response I got from the coffee shop via Square: "Stay out of my shop woman. I can't please everyone and you are the very first in 3 years I say this to. You're not welcome here . Keep your attitude with you and make your own crepe." So I guess responding with a sad face emoji and not a happy face emoji to Square gets a customer blasted. When I cancelled the order for the crepe I told the gentleman to keep the tip. To this he crossly told me he didn't want the tip. I was not ugly, rude etc about my requests but this man was very ugly to me. Attacking customers for leaving feedback.... Charming. That is the second time I went there. Both times empty. Apparently it is empty for a reason. I walked down the street to Cake Room to a 180 different experience. I see others have commented on blaring music and rudeness. read more

Perhaps Coin Des Snobs would be a better name for this charming place. I was in town for work and had some downtime between meetings so wanted to escape to a coffee shop to enjoy a coffee and do some writing. The photos looked charming and it got 4-stars so I walked several blocks (passing other shops, that in hindsight, I'd have been better served by visiting). I ordered a latte and crêpe only to be informed that they couldn't do crêpes at the moment because the batter wasn't ready. There was a woman preparing the batter behind the counter and she said it was almost done but the cashier refused to let me order a crêpe. As I planned on lingering a bit I ordered my latte and planned to order the crêpe later. As he was preparing my coffee, the barista noticed my iPad in my hand and told me I couldn't use it there. The place was empty. They have chess sets for use by patrons so they obviously don't mind you lingering a while. But if you visit the Coin Des Poetes to, you know, actually write some poetry, you'd better bring pen & paper not an iPad. Oh, and the latte was average. read more

Well, I never had the chance to try the food or drink at this place, and I'll tell you why. I was getting services done at Aparnaz Lash and Brow Bar which is right across the hall. The music was BLASTING which was very distracting during the appointment. It was way louder than normal restaurant background music. You could hear it outside. The employee at the salon, AP, said that she hated having to listen to it all day and craved quiet when she gets home. The coffee shop was empty so I wandered in and out. The owner was doing nothing but just standing on the front porch barefoot and staring at the rain. Eventually, AP yells "Hey! You have a customer!" The owner says "Ok, go have a seat inside." I go back in and wait but the owner is still doing god knows what and has made no mention to come back in, so I go back into Aparnaz. When I came out the owner says, "We're closed now. I told you to have a seat and wait but you didn't." He abruptly locked up the shop. I asked him if he could turn down the music since the shop is now closed, but he said no. I went to dinner and went back to the salon. To add insult to injury, AP told me that he had lied about being closed and had served other customers after I left. They say this place has just opened up. With this type of customer service, I'll be shocked if they last. read more

avoid this place. my friend and i went on 2 different days and here were our experiences. she brought her journal and sat down to write, then ordered a coffee. after paying the employee said she was not allowed to sit in the nearly empty cafe because she had not ordered a crepe. right after, the employee told the two people eating there to leave because they had almost reached their 30 minute time limit. when i went, i ordered a crepe but wasn't planning on staying. crepe was pretty terrible and they didn't have any way to take it to go except to hold it. the vibe in there is terrible with a chalkboard of rules where you basically aren't allowed to do anything but sit in silence and eat for 29 minutes. go anywhere else. read more

I was lured in by the Edith Piaf music playing into the street, which I love. I was charmed at first: tiny space; comfy decor; I heard the barista tell the person in front of me that people like to come in and play board games or guitars and piano. I ordered a $5 coffee (expensive but delicious) and started to sit down, when he informed me that their tables are only for people who order crepes ($10... way more expensive than in Paris). I sort of get it; it's a tiny space. But for a $5 cup of coffee and such a charming space, it's too bad that you're invited to keep it moving. This is my all time favorite cafe in DC. The atmosphere is so unique and home-like. When I walked in the piano was being played by another customer, others were watching while lounging on the couch, sipping coffee and eating crepes. This truly is a spot where you should come, sit, and talk with the wonderful owner or read a book. I fully agree with the other reviews that say you should slow down and breathe when you come in, immerse yourself in the true French Cafe experience. I also greatly disagree with the comment that didn't even try the food/coffee but still complained. I have nothing but raving reviews for this cafe and I have high hopes for their business! read more
