Make your way up to Colchuck's it's well worth it! We wanted to sit on the patio with our dog so we visited the hostess out front. When you sit on the patio you have the option of heading upstairs to Colchucks or downstairs to Stein. Stein had a line from the bar all the way out but when I headed upstairs there were two people in line and I quickly got a large beer. Pitchers and mugs aren't allowed outside unfortunately but they have large plastic cups. We ordered some onion rings and they were brought out to us so don't worry about having to climb back upstairs for your food! They were pretty good and a nice snack to share between 3 of us. I saw Stein had poutine though and I really considered waiting in line for some but it wasn't meant to be this time. Luckily the people up at Colchuck's were very friendly and fun to talk to. We so weren't planning on stopping here for dinner as we wanted to have Black Forest Cake and they don't have it (it was shockingly hard to find in tow which was weird) BUT... sooo glad the one place that had it did not offer happy hour. Soooo... we ended up here and I'm so glad we gave it a shot! My 1st time to Leavenworth so you kind of have to eat at a Bavarian styled eatery right? This is during phase 2 lockdown mind you so no large crowds and this was take out only! Stuff tried German pretzle with beer cheese: nicely glistening with a fine sheen of butter and the the right amount of pretzle salt. Currywurst with fries: a bit of a disappointment and i am kicking myself for this impulse buy. The smallish portion of wurst tasted like sliced smokey links. I am no expert on curry wurst sauce but i liked versions i have had elsewhere Jager schnitzel: the pork schnitzel was okay. I think the take out container didn't help as it was not as crisp as i would have liked. The mushroom gravy helps a bit. This place isn't bad - easily 4-5 stars - but... After being seated and greeted, our drink orders were promptly delivered. And that's all that was quick. Our server was friendly and courteous and attentive - well she wasn't really attentive to us...but she was friendly. Our meal (children's hamburger and the sausage platter seen below) arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes after ordering. Others near us had a much more expedient experience so hopefully yours will be too. Colchuck's is, in my opinion, the best German restaurant in Leavenworth. Every dish there was elevated. We began with the deviled eggs--the best I've ever had. Deviled eggs with a little crem fresh and crunchy proscuitto on top, amazing. The cucumber salad was equally amazing. We tried two different schnitzels, one traditional, one non-traditional, and both were the best we had had in several days in Leavenworth. Stopped for dinner here after a long day of hiking. Not very impressed. They had about 4-5 German beers and mediocre food. The spicy margarita I ordered was ok, not great. I give 5 stars for service though! We started off with beers, ciders and margarita. Brussels Sprouts, fire roasted bread and pretzels. They were all good! I got the Sweet Caroline sandwich with fries. The sandwich was huge! Didn't enjoy the filling in it though. Others in my group got the Seattle Dog with the impossible vegan dog. The kids got the marinara pasta from the kid menu with a side of fries and loved it! My two cents - the impossible plant based meat is so much like real meat that most vegetarians don't enjoy it. TLDR: go elsewhere. We finally decided to eat somewhere new this time in Leavenworth. We usually enjoy Andreas. But we landed here for outdoor seating and simple menu. Let's start with the service and the organization. You first climb up the stairs where they tell you to go to the patio attendant outside who will give you a number. We go back out, the guy looks completely clueless and tells us to just go up and say we got number 5 table. Then we go back up and they tell us to go inside and order there. After standing around someone finally told us that we have to order at the bar. Ok then! As we are ordering , the bartender is doing multiple things and rushing around not really paying much attention to us. Then we go back out to wait for food at our table. The food came out pretty fast. Kid hamburger was greasy and tasteless, fries were ok. The chicken tenders were very generic, like the frozen type that fast food places have. My husband was happy with the Bacon cheeseburger even though he said it was pretty greasy. I had the rahm schnitzel which tasted great but the red cabbage I didn't care for. I ended up getting the wienerschnitzle , which came with arugula and capers and it was so good, I'm still thinking about it. This restaurant was just what we needed to get out of the cold and rain for a bit. Had a great selection for kids. And plenty of different choices for us adults. The yardbird was on the hotter side but good, however The sweet potato fries were AMAZING. My son also enjoyed the Fire-Roasted Bread dipping sauce. One of the many food establishments in Leavensworth serving German food. Was pretty busy for lunch on a weekend, which is no surprise given that large number of visitors that were in town. They have seating outside on the street. The main indoor area is on the second floor but is not open because of COVID, but there is a small balcony with two small tables that was open, and I took one of the tables. The menu is smaller than usual due to the pandemic, but there are a couple of burgers and German dishes. I got the sausage platter that comes with sauerkraut and spatzle. The platter includes choice of 2 sausages. Out of the plate, I think the spatzle tasted the best. The sausages were decent, but nothing really noteworthy about them. We had just gotten into Leavenworth and had a serious case of the hangries. Most places were completely full and my tummy was quite rumbly. Luckily this place had space for us and was able to seat us as soon as we came upstairs. There is one main dining area and then we were seated in a long side hall with windows facing out to the street. It's a small little place but quite cozy and Bavarian themed. Our server came over and took our drink order. We had a few issues with getting what we ordered as first the cider the husband ordered was out and then my holiday margarita arrived without amaretto and we had to ask them to remake it. It took awhile to find our server to order and when we finally did we put in for a peach burger (prepped gluten free) and schnitzel. Once it arrived everything was averagely good. The husband said the schnitzel was ok but missing out on the much needed crunch factor. My burger was a good burger but I couldn't taste any of the peach flavor that it was named after. We got our bill and were charged for the cider they were out of but the server was really nice and took it back giving us a 25% discount which was very much appreciated. All in all we enjoyed our friendly service even though they were quite busy which resulted in longer wait times and the food was so so. Visited on a Sunday around noon. Like the atmosphere and location is great. They have live music and good cocktails. Service was on point and this place can accommodate large groups. There is also outside seating. I got a burger cause it said they were the best on the sign outside the establishment. I would rate there burgers more a 3 out of 5. It was ok, but nothing worth repeating. The bun was thick and firm. And a bit bland. My mom got a BLT and she liked it. It came on a Focaccia bread that looked good. She said it was soft and tasty. Well, we came back and things have changed. Dropped to a 3 star rating. The menu has changed and I think there is now a new owner and/or manager, because the service seems different, too. No wait when before the place was always hopping. The large pretzel I loved is gone, replaced by a small one and it was tough, not yummy soft and fresh with pretzel salt like it should have been and use to be. There are things on the menu now that are not German. Asked the waitress about the pretzel to see if there was a mistake, and she said that it was changed. The cool peanut butter/coconut spread is gone as well. Too much butter and oil on the wiener schnitzel for me. Just didn't taste great. Waitress was not interested in me and/or her job. After reading a lot of reviews for Colchuck's - and then having experienced it firsthand - I have to deduce that either a) our experience during the second week of January was a complete anomaly, or b) a lot of reviewers of Colchuck's enjoy substandard food and horrible service. Hopefully, our experience was just an anomaly. I'll start with service. We sat upstairs, and besides the woman at the bar on which the bartender focused all his attention, we were the only table the whole time we were there. We never were offered refills of our water; our server checked on us only once. After it was clear that we were done and ready to go, we waited at least ten minutes - in an empty frikkin' room - before I had to walk to the bar to ask for our check. I hope you got her number, Dude. Our drinks were pretty good, albeit a little over priced. $10 for a glass of house wine seems steep. I tried to order 'Bob's Buttered Rum'. Our bartender replied, "We don't have that anymore." So I ordered the Reindeer Fuel, which was really good (contributing to the 2 stars). (Note: Two days later, Bob's Buttered Rum is still on their web site. I am always amazed at how inaccurate the web sites of businesses are.) Moving on to the food, I'll start with the positives: The house salad was fresh, and a good value. And the breaded mushrooms on the fried shishito peppers and breaded mushroom appetizer were really good! The Bavarian Sampler was unimpressive - the quality of the meats was good, but at $13, I was expecting more than 1/2 a 6" link of the three wursts. The Jager Schnitzel was a hot mess. The gravy was extremely bland. Maybe we should have tried a burger? But we were in Leavenworth, not Five Guys! I came here on a Saturday night. There was live music being performed inside the restaurant, which was pretty cool. I sort of expected some German music or something like that, but that wasn't what was being played. It didn't matter much to me, but it did perplex me. I ordered the "Le Royale" burger, some onion rings, a bavarian pretzel, and a lager. The burger was fantastic. I loved every bite of it and was so sad when I had finished it! The onion rings were also crunchy and light, exactly how I like them. The bavarian pretzel came with a sauce I didn't care too much for, but I had left over mustard from the onion rings I was able to use. After living in Germany for several years I was looking forward to some good German food. I made the mistake of going to Colchuck's. Not only was it not good German food, it was not even edible food. I ordered the standard Wienerschnitzel, and my wife ordered the Bavarian Brisket. The Wienerschnitzel was dry as a bone, sitting on lettuce that was also dry. It was supposed to be a butter sauce seasoned with capers. There was no butter sauce and a large portion of uncooked, and straight from the cold jar, capers. The Bavarian Brisket was so tough i had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. The Spätzle had large chunks of mostly uncooked onion and very little Jäger sauce (mushroom Gravy). The Spätzle itself was meh. Not bad but not anything a restaurant in Germany would dare to sell. Very small pieces unlike the longer more formed ones in Germany. Of the meal, the only thing that was edible was the smashed potatoes. If you don't believe this review, make sure to ask for Andrew L. as your server, his sour attitude and total indifference to our experience will definitely win you over to my point of view. This was quite the disappointing experience. We came in because of the stellar reviews and was hoping expectantly for a wonderful dinner. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Of course, on our part we were confused on where the happy hour took place as it said it was from 4-6 (in the bar area - which we didn't know since it was not noted on the website). HOWEVER, what was interesting was that our server was very confused when we asked and brought another server - who didn't know either. They later on found out that they don't do happy hours during the busy season... We ordered the pretzel ($8.50) and Bavarian Curry stew ($18). Both were mundane and really was quite expensive for what we got. Came here for dinner with dad after having a few people recommend here for some German food, wait times were better than some of the other German restaurants in town also. We didn't wait at all, ended up in bar seating, but worked out well. Appetizers came out pretty quickly, we got the Bavarian pretzel & also tried the Tuscan white bean soup. The soup was phenomenal! I was pretty disappointed with the pretzel, didn't have enough salt, was slightly over cooked & definitely wasn't served with enough cheese sauce. Should've asked for mustard as well. Entree wise we ordered the jager schnitzel, the gravy on it was super tasty! The sides served went really well with the dish, it was spatzel & red onion. Wish the spatzel was served with something, some places I've been have served it with green beans which is a great way to eat it. Also ordered a knackwurst sausage on the side. Was pretty good overall. Finished off the meal with the German chocolate Bundt cake & the founders imperial brown ale, pairs very well together. It's a dark beer but almost tastes like a dark chocolate brownie. They have a great drink selection with beer & cocktails. This was a great find, thanks to Yelp. They were very short staffed (which seems to be the way of the world right now) so service was very slow but our server had an amazing attitude and did the best she could with the many tables she was handling by herself. We were sat at a table overlooking front street and it was snowing outside so we were content just to wait and enjoy each others company with a drink while waiting for service and food. The menu is expansive and full of amazing and unique looking options, both German and American. The four of us all had a hard time deciding. We all enjoyed our food very much with one exception. We ordered the pretzel as an appetizer (which was forgotten and brought with our food order. which is always a bummer but again see above in reference to staff shortage) and the cheese sauce was disgusting. It was runny and had a very bizarre taste to it. I am a cheese LOVER and I could not stomach this sauce. I would have preferred 7-11 nacho cheese to this, and that is saying a lot. I would have had mustard with it instead of I could have gotten the servers attention. Good food choices for kids too (they have a kids menu). I was irritated that they asked my daughter if she wanted cheese on her burger and then charged 1.50 for a tiny piece of smoked cheese (which she does not like nor did they mention). Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Prices are a little high imo, but it is a tourist town so that is to be expected. My boyfriend had the huner schnitzel and I had a bite and wished I would have ordered it. It was so delicious. I had ordered chicken tenders but didn't realize that they had put in the order for kid's chicken tenders. Their kids meals have tiny portions, fyi. I think half of the chicken was breading. The calamari was freshly fried and I liked the choice of topping it with seaweed flakes. ----- Huner Schnitzel: hand-breaded chicken breast with miso mustard cream sauce. I enjoyed Colchuck's this past Saturday with a group of friends :) We were a party of seven, and we were all served (separate tabs) within 25 minutes of sitting down. In a restaurant on a Saturday night. We were so impressed by how fast but detailed their service was! Hands down wonderful timing, if not the best timing for a group being served...ever. During COVID no less? Impressed. Their hostess and waitstaff were so courteous and professional. You can scan their menu onto your phone. I did not see any paper menus but they also had their menu posted outside their door. Colchuck's is enforcing masking and distancing. We loved our waitress and we enjoyed the food. I ordered The Yardbird, a Nashville hot chicken inspired sandwich with fries on the side, as well as Colchuck's Kolsch. I loved their Kolsch-this beer was bright and flavorful. It would have paired with anything on their menu! The Yardbird was excellent. My only critique would be that it would be hard to fit bites in due to the width of the bread, but all the flavors are there and are excellent. While this was not the spiciest sandwich ever, it held its heat very well. I enjoyed my sandwich deconstructed! We also shared pretzels at the table, and we all regretted not staying for dessert.
