But I've spent more here than I spent at the Saturday farmers market at the Summit Sierra, excluding what I spend on Paul Schat's Bakery. Wedge Cheese shop has a booth here. They have a nice selection of cheeses. I had oodles of questions for them about their cheeses. After lots of discussion, I bought two small wedges. "That's a lot of work to sell two small pieces of cheese," I remarked. "Yes. It usually is," one of the owners sighed. They have the least expensive fruit here of any farmers market I've been to. Only $2 a pound. But it's only one fruit stand. And the meat booth sold lamb jerky. I've never had that before so I had to buy a bag of that. It was interesting. So while it's a small farmers market, it was a place I wanted to spend my money.

People who know me, know that I'm not big on food truck events. Don't like the crowds, don't like…read morestanding in line, don't like all the pets that are brought along. But Big Blue BBQ advertised Octopus Tacos ... so I had to try. It's only a short walk from my home so I trekked over there just as they opened ... I was the first customer. Ordered my Octo-Tacos and then had to wait ... apparently the food inspector got there just as I placed my order and several employees had to vacate the truck so she could do her job. This is a good thing! And, apparently they passed and I got my tacos. Now, they were very tasty. The first taco was a little chewy (probably because it may have overcooked while everyone was outside the truck). The second one was more tender and really, really good. So if you're interested and tacos and octopus ... this is a good choice. Then I tried some quick made ice cream that I ate on my way home. Also very tasty... Nice Cream ... made to order.

This a great event that happens every Wednesday during the summer from 5-830pm. This is good for those of us who like to sample different fares but don't want to fight the crowds from Foodtruck Fridays. The only downer was that there are only two porta potties on the farthest corner of the arts center parking lot. There is a large grassy area in front of the McKinley arts center where you can plop down a blanket or some beach chairs, kickback and hangout. I tried quite a lot tonight but these are the dishes that stuck out for me- The queso birria taco from the pink taco truck. Meat and cheese in a pink fried tortilla with onions, cilantro and dipping sauce. It's packed with flavor. The pig wings from slaters wing a ding truck were Meaty and delicious! The fried Nashville chicken sandwich from big blue Q of Tahoe. Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner! This is huge! The picture does not do it justice at all. Crunchy, flavorful and crazy good;) Looking forward to seeing which trucks will be there next week!

Can you believe I got two slices for $8.50 what a deal! Not many items at food truck Friday under $10 bucks, so I think I scored big time! I love enjoying the Idlewild park beauty with the Truckee River run through the park! It's so fun to see all ages out on a Friday night! It's one of my favorite things to do in the summer! Next time, you don't know what to do, grab your lawn chair, a cold drink and come and experience one of many food truck choices! There is something for everyone!!!

First off, I have to admit I completely underestimated the magnitude of this event as Idlewild Park was pretty poppin and parking was nearly impossible. After we finally found a spot to park, we grabbed out chairs and headed to the Park. After picking our spots by the duck pond, we walked around a bit to survey the offerings. We tried three different trucks and sampled some pretty delicious bites. Some of the lines were a long wait and some were moving along pretty fine. But there's pretty much something for everyone. I would definitely hit this up again, but probably try to arrive earlier to plan better parking. It was a bit of a challenge navigating this for the first time, but at least I know what to expect now. I really wish my hometown had something like this. May try it again later this summer.

The work they do is…read moretireless, continuous, and exhausting, yet each day, they wake up with a big ol' smile on their faces excited and ready to face the challenges of providing their community with delicious, nutritious, and humanely raised food to eat! I'll never forget my first visit to Girlfarm! Coming up the drive we were greeted by a herd of very interesting looking sheep, seemingly stampeding toward us, which stopped us in our tracks. From the ominous trail of dust that followed them you could hear commands helping Frankie Fly guide the herd down the trail and into the pasture. Eventually we saw the red quad and the "Wee Farmer", Wendy Baroli, sitting proudly atop it, who quickly jumped down to greet and welcome us to her slice of heaven. Wendy Baroli is one of the amazing people in our local community working hard to provide us all with something a little better. If you haven't met her, you need to! If I had to sum her up in just a few words they'd be tenacious, dedicated, passionate, and ferocious (in a good way!). At Girlfarm, her mission is to introduce our local food community to those heritage breeds and heirloom varieties that offer up the greatest flavor, which sadly have fallen out of sight as a result of more easily produced food and imports. If that isn't cool enough, the best part is she wants to share her knowledge and the experience of producing it with everyone as well. Through the Girlfarm Farm Family program, everyone is invited to be a part of raising some of the animals and crops grown on the farm. From planting to harvesting, you're able to be a part of it all. I can't think of a better way to connect with your food than this. It's very easy to pick up a plastic wrapped package at the store and bring it home, but there's a whole other level of satisfaction you get when you get to consume something you helped to produce. Farm families are invited to help process chickens and turkeys, as well as enjoy some of the produce from the farm, all with the help of Wendy and her partner Jill. The farm is nestled in beautiful country right beneath the hills at the NV/CA border. Wendy has several acres where she raises beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and turkey, along with produce including brussels sprouts, peppers, strawberries, and more! And best of all, she's constantly planning, plotting and dreaming about the next great thing she'll be planting and how she's going to bring it to market for us all to enjoy.
