This is an average ice cream shop. It's cute if you want a lot of mix ins and not in blizzard form. I like the founders favorite in like it size and in a waffle chocolate coated bowl. They serve three sizes like it, love it and got to have it. The like it size is about one scoop, love it is two scoops and foots have it is about three scoops. Service is ok. Not the fastest but also not the slowest. Takes a little longer since they are adding items to your scoop and mixing it all together before they put it in your cup or cone. Overall ice cream is a little on the higher end price range. I paid almost 7 bucks for a scoop of ice cream on a chocolate coated waffle bowl. Something about this location is just a little off. The music here is obnoxious and loud, it's pretty cramped, and it just feels sticky and dirty. I remember eating here and seeing a kid scream and make a big mess out of his melted ice cream. When his family left, no one was in a hurry to clean. I haven't been back since. I absolutely adore Cold Stone creamery in general - but this is THE WORST location ever. I fell in love with ice-cream very similar while in Hawaii. When i got home i was on a quest to find something just like it. Was so stoked to find cold stone because it's basically the same thing as what i'd fallen in love with! I always get the same thing because it's what i'm love with: Cake batter ice-cream with Yellow cake and sprinkles. Basically I go on a weekly basis and get a family sized thing of ice cream (called the "Everybody's" size") and bring it home. It's a heck of a lot cheaper that way. I alternate stores based on where i am at the time, but i usually end up going to the Vernon Hills location. The Vernon Hills location is GREAT compared to this one, by the way. This store: the employees are useless. Young High School kids who don't give two shits. Last week when i stopped I waited ten minutes in line for the one kid working to help ONE COUPLE. Then when he finally got to me, there wasn't any cake batter ice cream thawed out. He was like "Yeah i gotta take some out. You can wait for it to thaw if you want" - he said maybe 10-20 minutes. I'm like are you freaking kidding me?? You clearly KNOW when you're getting close to scooping the bottom of the barrel that IT'S TIME TO TAKE OUT A REPLACEMENT. Especially since this is one of their most popular flavors. I'm not waiting 20-30 minutes for flippin' ice cream! WTF? And they still had like 4 hours left in the evening - so shame on them for being so horribly unprepared!! Needless to say i left empty-handed. I couldn't wait as I had somewhere to be. Flash-forward to last night, I stopped again. Yay they had cake-batter this time, but GUESS WHAT?! No Yellow-cake mix-in. "Oh yeah, we're out at the moment. i need to get more" - SERIOUSLY?! Are they ever prepared?? In addition to having worthless employees and not being prepared i have two other major complaints: 1. Overpriced. I pay $12 for the "Everybody's" size in Vernon Hills. Here they charge me $15. That's a HUGE difference. 2. Their waffle cones are horrible!! Something is missing. They are clearly not following the standard instructions on how to make waffle-cone-bowls, because they chewy and weird. if it was just once i would think it was a fluke and wouldn't complain, but i've had them 3 separate occasions before i finally gave-up buying them from this location. The other day I asked one of the employees if the stores were individually owned, and it seems they are - which makes a lot of sense. I've visited this place several times over the last three years and, without fail, every single person behind the counter gives you the impression that they hate being there and that they'd like nothing more than to see you turn around and leave. A lot of frozen yogurt places have popped up but this location has remained for years. While this is a chain ice creamery it doesn't feel like one. How Baskin Roobins feels very franchised this place feels like a neighborhood ice creamer parlor with better flavors. While the prices here may be a little high than a normal ice cream shop it is definitely worth it. The option to add sides such as whole Reeses peanut butter cups or M & M's is awesome & makes the ice cream taste that much better. This particular Cold Stone has always been clean when I have been there & the service is always pretty good. The location is convenient as well because it is located in the Deer Park mall & is right next to the movie theater. Overall the place is clean, the service has been good, the location is convenient & the ice cream is delicious. I would definitely come here again if I was in the area. read more

Okay, so yes Cold Stone is a chain and it's in a lot of places but it's still yummy and worth a review. This specific location is usually busy in the summertime so if you're coming on a week night when there's tons of people and kids, be prepared to wait a little bit. They allow you to sample whichever flavor you would like prior to ordering which is nice but I always stick to my usual that I've been ordering for about ten years which is my cake batter with marshmallows. It's simple, all white and tasty. Here's what I'm not a fan of Cold Stone is their prices. $4 or $5 for a small is a lot in my opinion and you don't get that much and it's technically called a like it. Sometimes, when I'm not feeling like a lot of ice cream, I get the kids size which is like $3.50 and that may or may not fulfill my craving for that day. So to be safe, and to get your moneys worth it's actually better to get there love it size which is like a medium in other ice cream shops. They also have the gotta have it which is the large and that's a little too much for me unless you're sharing with someone, but Cold Stone ice cream, because it's really fatty and high in calories, melts super fast, so I don't like that I have to feel rushed while eating it even if I'm sitting inside in an AC room. Because if you go outside in 90 degree Chicago heat, you can predict your ice cream to be melted in about 3 minutes and then you have white looking sweet milk. So yes, cake batter is definitely my favorite flavor but I also like sweet cream, cheesecake and chocolate cake batter. They have tons of mix ins if you want to spice things up but like I said your bill will quickly add up here. The last couple of times we went, the people working weren't super friendly but I think that if I was serving up scoops of ice cream all day everyday, I wouldn't be my usual peachy self. Overall, Cold Stone is okay, it's not my favorite but I go at least once a year when I'm in the area and I get that craving. We've been coming to this location for last 7 years, the ice cream is good, but mostly because we can walk here from our house. Over the years a number of things are getting worst and worst. Let's start with nonexistent customer service. The place is typically understaffed, hence if it's a warm day, be prepared to wait in a very long line, but that's not employees' fault it's the management. Employees are mostly teenagers who have very little knowledge about the product and have more interest in gossiping than helping customers. Cleanliness - what's that? More often than not the tables and chairs are sticky from dozens of patrons who came before you. I particularly enjoy blobs of ice cream that have melted and ran off the table onto the chair and the floor. I suggest you do not visit the bathrooms as they are more disgusting than most portapotties. The product - ice cream is pretty good but if you ask for anything to be mixed in you may end up with moldy nuts or gummies/ marshmallows that are as hard as the soles of your rubber boots. My "favorite" experience took place over the Father's Day weekend. Naturally there was a huge line , where I patiently waited with my two kids, after ordering 2 kids size ice creams and paying extra for addition "mixed" in ingredients, the ingredients were sprinkled on top instead of being mixed in. When I asked why I was told they don't mix in for kids size. This was 1st in last 7 years. I guess this was the 1st employee who followed store policy in the last 7 years. Upon pickup, I noticed the personalized message looked like it was written by a small child with terrible printing skills.
