I've probably been to Cold Stone about once or twice a month for years now, and I honestly feel like the customer service has gotten better over time, especially from the owner. He always greets customers, and to be honest, he makes the best ice cream. No shade to the younger employees, but he's been doing this for so long that he's really mastered the craft. Whenever I see he's making my order, I know it's going to be perfect. I order the same thing every single time: Surrender to Strawberry, but I substitute the strawberry ice cream for Sweet Cream and always add extra cake. If you've never tried it that way, you're missing out! My only minor complaint is that sometimes when I pay for extra cake, it doesn't really feel like I get much more than the normal serving. I've been to Cold Stone locations all over the West Coast, and some of them really load it up when you pay for the extra cake. Lately I've been ordering online because by the time I get there, it's been sitting in the freezer a little longer and is extra frozen, which I actually like. The younger employees aren't rude or anything. They're just a little more quiet and awkward compared to the owner, who always makes an effort to greet people. He definitely leads by example. I've been coming here ever since the days when the store had that infamous sewage smell around 2020, and honestly, it never stopped me from coming. I remember it being a big topic of conversation back then, and every once in a while I swear I catch a tiny hint of that smell and it takes me right back. Either way, I'm really glad Orcutt has a Cold Stone because it's one of my favorite places to grab ice cream. My only wish is that they stayed open just a little later, but that's a small complaint. Delicious ice cream, not so great customer service. My sister and I both asked for cones for our ice creams and neither of us got them. I was paying for two ice cream orders separately and one of the cashiers did correct herself and put my ice cream in a waffle cone. When my sister came up to pay for her order, her ice cream also did not come in a cone and when she pointed this out, the cashier told her :"You didn't ask for a cone." It's a good thing I wasn't standing right there to hear that because I would have immediately told her I'm not about to have this back and forth with you but she did order the cone. Please correct this mistake and prepare it accordingly. I don't know what's going on with young people and customer service but when I managed a food service establishment, that kind of customer service response would have been absolutely unacceptable. To the manager of this place: I know that the customer isn't always right and I know how challenging it is to work in food service. You need to make sure your cashiers respond to their mistakes with humility and apologize when there's even an inkling that they may have made a mistake here. Its been decades since I've last been here. Today is a little warm 90 degrees for the middle of October. The associate was very helpful in assisting my order, I wanted strawberry and asked if he could create whatever is most popular bowl. Horrible customer service from the owner himself and the employee's and it's not the first time, it's every time my family and I have gone within the last month. Never get a welcome in, they seem to be irritated when we're placing our order even when there's not a customer in sight and they're just hanging out in the back of the store, they have a hard time remembering what we even want when we do one order at a time. When they came out from the back to take our order the young girl says "hey" then continues to ask "what do you want" I asked the owner if they take apple pay as I did not have my wallet on me he was making an online order and just responded with an "mmhm" while still looking down making the online order. I could barely hear him so, I asked again he looked up irritated and says "yes sir" then goes back to making the online order. Consistently good ice cream. I like that they are open until 9pm because I sometimes randomly crave ice cream at night. The staff does their job well and are polite; no complaints from me. Terrible manager George / Jorge ! My doordash order was incomplete. Since we still wanted our waffle bowls, I drove to Coldstone (kinda defeats the door dash perk) and explained my situation to the counter girl who was very sweet. She had to run my order and receipt by her manager. The manager gave me several very dirty/disgusted looks. No apology, no smile, just berated his poor employee in spanish. Always some issue here. Last time it was wrong ingredients in two signature orders and employees just shrugged their shoulders and annoyingly asked if we wanted it redone. We kept it but thought "never come again". Tonight we thought we'd give it a shot since we normally love Cold Stone (this is the worst we've been to). Ordered same size signature ice cream and Oreo one barely had any in the cup. I questioned if it was typical to be such a difference in portion for the same size and the girl had to ask, I'm assuming a person in charge, and she said yes because brownie are fluffy. She was annoyed with me for asking and obviously customer satisfaction was not a priority. Never did she offer to fix it they just snickered at me and my kids as we walked out. But you should NEVER let that show. We came in late a few weeks ago, about 30 minutes before they closed and the young girl was very rude to us. It was 4 of us total. I get you close in 30 minutes. I worked at Subway for many years and closed all by myself with people coming in 10 minutes before I had to lock up, but I never treated anyone the way this young girl was....just boiling at the the thought that we were there. I ordered a birthday cake for my Sister In Law who lost he husband less than a yr ago. This will be he first Birthday without him. So needless to say we are all trying our best to make it an extra special day for her. I ordered the cake 2 days in advance and said I will pick up at 1pm on the website. When I walked it to pick up the cake there was no one around. I stood there for not quite 5 mins. Then all of a sudden 3 people walk out of the back room. Holler across at me if they can help me. Mentioned that I had a on line order I was there to pick up. Then another person (who I found out was the manager) hollers from the doorway at me that she has to finish putting something on the cake and walks away. Now at this point no one has not asked me my name or confirmed my order. The girl behind the counter helped a gentleman who had come in. I asked her if she was sure that what the other person was working on my order since no confirmed anything. The girl comes out of the back and I asked are you sure that is my order? Since I ordered 2 days ago and said I would pick up at 1pm. I got there late it was 1:40 pm. I asked why she she didn't have it done at this time? She responded "you only had to wait 5 mins, I don't see what the problem is?" I did snap back at this point. She never told me what she was doing nor apologized for anything. And to top it all off 15mins in the car part of the cake slid off! So this will be so wonderful to present to my Sisters In Law who is desperately missing her husband that is not able to be with her on her special day! We normally really enjoy going to cold stone. But, here's the deal- it seems like the old owners sold to someone else this past year (is this a fanchise?), because there seems to be the same family working here all the time, and we havent seen any of the other employees. They seem like family, and it seems like they dont really care too much at all. We've even seen random people behind the counters talking on personal cell phones, and not helping customers, even if theres a few people waiting to be helped. This was my second time receiving really shitty service. I had to keep saying " hello hello" for someone to come to the front and finally help me after waiting in the front for a while. As I'm ordering , the guy serves the smallest amount of ice cream and is hurrying me up when I'm deciding what toppings I want. After my second topping, I am then told that I should remember that each topping is extra. JUST PUT MY DAMN TOPPINGS OMG. An average cold stone creamery. The ice cream is good like it always is. The employees seem to get along well, so well that they don't really listen when your talking to them to make your order. I requested a love-it size but got the like-it instead. I didn't bother to correct the order since I probably don't need the additional sugar/calories but if you routinely don't listen I'm sure it adds up on opportunities to cash bigger items.
