Visited here one afternoon recently. The solo young employee that seemed to be working there was friendly and professional. The ice cream was exactly like what you get from any other Cold Stone - the usual toppings and mixing combos are available for you to choose. The location is conveniently located near a park and shopping area but a bit difficult to get to by car or to find nearby parking. There are a few tables inside if you want to eat there; no real outside seating but plenty of nearby outdoor benches etc. if you want to get it to go. read more

The description of the ingredients in the ice cream cupcake on the company's website, Door Dash, and Uber Eats for the Ice Cream Cupcake Variety 6 Pack ingredients is very misleading. When I ordered these ice cream cupcakes there was a description under the lid of the package which described all of the ingredients on each cupcake: High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated vegetable oil were the leading culprits along with every type of sugar, corn syrup, and artificial flavors. I expected sugar from Real ice cream but not the other fake ingredients. It would have been nice if they put the description of the cupcakes on their website as they put it underneath the package on the lid of the cupcakes so that I was allowed the option to see what the ingredients were in the food BEFORE my purchase from the store. There's whipped cream on top of the ice cream cupcakes so that may account for artificial ingredients. This review is based on the custom ice cream cake service. I was throwing a surprise party for my boyfriend's 25th birthday. He only likes ice cream cake and has never had Coldstone EVER, so I thought ordering a cake from here would be perfect. I ordered two cakes, a small rectangle cake and a small round cake. On the rectangle I asked to have "Happy Birthday Joe & Neptune!" written on the cake. My boyfriend and our dog share a birthday I had to get his name on there too. On the small cake I just wanted "25!" written on it. I placed my order about a week in advance and waited. I go to pick up my cake and the guy informs me that she didn't write "25!" on the small round cake because she wasn't sure if it was a typo. Excuse me who can put three whole characters, including an exclamation point, in as a mistake? Also, Coldstone has all of my information. In the week leading up to this, no one could call me or email me to ASK if it was a typo? I tell him, no big deal just leave it blank. He then brings the cake and on the rectangle cake is "Happy Birthday Joe & Neptune" atrociously written. It was disgusting. I will include a picture so you can see. Thankfully I had enough adornments for the cake to draw people's attention away from how disgustingly the message was written. If I'm spending $86 on some damn ice cream cake, I expect a cake that looks like it was $50. Please don't charge me a premium price and give me below average product. That's just disrespectful. When I arrived, the cake had the message scrawled in this orange-cream-vomit colored icing. Adding insult to injury, the cake did not look nearly as neat as I expected. I've ordered this cake from another location last year and it looked picture perfect. This one just looked sloppy. The graham cracker crust looked like it had been flung haphazardly on there... and the tacky orange icing clashes with the red and pink icing on the rest of the cake. I'm not as upset about the mistake (stuff happens, I get it.) as I am with the fact that the staff acted like they really didn't care. Like it was no big deal. I asked to speak to the manager, but she barely understood English. I asked for the phone number for the district manager instead, which she provided with a half-hearted, "Oh, so sorry." What's even more frustrating is that she did nothing to try to rectify the situation. She didn't present me with any options or take any other measures to try to make this right. When I'm paying 8$+ for my cup of ice cream, I'd like to think a slight degree of care is going into it. Not so with this employee. I placed my order- large cup with toppings. He scoops it adds toppings then puts it in a medium cup. I correct him, and instead of adding more ice cream and toppings to the mixture, he takes it, puts in a large cup and the adds a tiny bit more ice cream and a few sprinkles. Huh? On top of this it's messy and melting down all sides of the cup. I mention I need to take it to go and could he makes it less sloppy so it fits with the cover and he recommends I just eat off the sides. That's pretty bad presentation wise. Visited Cold Stone after having a sushi dinner around the corner. Ordered a Gotta Love It because it less than 50 cents more than the smallest size. There was no line/waiting. The person that took our order was very kind and even threw in an extra topping for free. My partner and I shared this desert for three days (that's how big and filling it was). We got buttercream ice cream and added the following toppings: chocolate cake, cookies, cookie dough, pecans, chocolate syrup and caramel. All of the ingredients tasted extremely fresh. I called back the next day and I was able to order the cake I wanted in the size I wanted for my dad for Father's Day. Finally, I picked up the cake, left a 20% tip, and went home. My family tried the cake and the bottom red velvet layer was hard as ice. I ate the bottom layer and it tasted watery with textures of cake. For the price point of this cake, this should not have happened. It looks like someone thawed out the cake and then placed it back for someone else to order it later. My only complaint with the place is the smell. It consistently smells like a wet mop. I am not sure where the smell is coming from. Maybe they need a new mop or something. There are some really good, creative independent ice cream stores in Silver Spring, so I don't usually go to Cold Stone. The one time I did it was on a weekend morning, and they were WIPED OUT after the weekend night before. It was dirty, and they had hardly any ice cream and not many toppings. Cold Stone makes me happy. It's a shame that they don't have any locations in the district. My absolute favorite is the "Founder's Favorite." You can't go wrong with ice cream, brownie chunks, pecans, caramel and chocolate syrup all rolled into one! I suggest getting it fresh rather than from the freezer. Even if you want to take home a pint, get them to make it for you at the counter. This location seemed nice. It was clean and the staff were friendly. I guess I went at a decent time because we were in and out with no problems. I won't bother comparing Cold Stone to other ice cream shops. Despite the tragedy of what was once the only Cold Stone in DC, I miss the cleveland park location. This is the nearest cold stone near me and it's hit or miss, usually miss. This place is dirty. Like literally dirty. I used to come here at least once a week when I worked in SS but got annoyed with the slow customer service. I went on Tuesday night and there was only one employee and one customer ahead of us yet our wait was unacceptably long. She was on the phone the entire time while helping the guy in front of us. I take issue with management because there should never just be one employee working. Not only does it negativity affect customers (slow service) it isn't safe for the poor overworked employee. I went there on Sunday evening in the middle of January. Despite the unlikely wait, I ended up with waiting for good 15 minutes to get my order. There were about 5 people ahead of us, and we had to wait 15+ minutes. Reason? There was only one employee attending to customers. He had to take orders, mix them up, and collects money from customers. There was another employee, but all she does is to pick up used ice cream spoon and take them to the back. I don't know what she does at the back, but she didn't do anything else when she could see 10 customers standing and waiting. Not only that, she started cleaning up windows right by our tables. I can count on one hand then number of times that i've been to this location since they opened years ago. And unfortunately, the service has gone downhill. In my second most recent visit, they ran out of chocolate ice cream. How this happens and there isn't a backup or way to make or get more is beyond me. I just got back from them. Early fall night and there was a festival across the street. A medium length line at Cold Stone. I wanted a Create-Your-Own Shake with a base of chocolate ice cream. The women who served me didn't even bother to ask about Mix-ins - she just did the ice cream and milk. I should have corrected her, but I didn't want to hold-up the line that was growing beyind me. I could have made it faster and cheaper at home though. Without mix-ins, the ice cream is just bland. They used to be fast and with enough supply. Not anymore. I think I'm done with this location. I'll stick to BurgerFi concretes and Ben & Jerry's. The only reason I came to Cold Stone tonight was that Frozenyo shut down. Unfortunately this is my neighborhood Coldstone. I LOVE the ice cream but the customer service is not great, the lines are always long and they always close early. If you're going to close early all willy nilly do not advertise your store hours. Also, as someone who has worked in the food and beverage industry I really don't appreciate that they don't routinely wear gloves while handling food.
