We left with three different cake slices and they were all amazing. Very light tasty, you would never know they were vegan! Small suggestion. I've been to this bakery for 8 years. Unfortunately I understand the pandemic & inflation has affected a lot of local businesses but I don't appreciate the dishonesty or lack of acknowledgment that comes with tough business decisions. I recently went to this bakery after not having been in 10 months and I immediately noted to the host that the personal slices of tiramisu are now more than 50% smaller than what they used to be. She was taken aback and said "oh? They are?" I've seen her through out the years and was surprised she didn't even acknowledge my truth. I told her "yes, I've been coming here for many years" she didn't respond anymore. For context the prices have remained the same for the most part but the shrink-flation has really taken a toll on my wanting to come back again. I came here bc I got off the bus at Silver Spring instead of DC (first mistake), and I had no other place to find a cake without cabbing a long while. Just wanted to get to my suburban parents home. Wish I never got the cake here bc the taste was terrible. Flavorless and soggy (got black&white cake, not tiramisu). The cream was also subpar. I wouldn't go back... but since the review are all the raves, maybe I'll try the tiramisu if I stumble on it again next time. The service is quick and nice. This place is easily one of my favorite finds of 2023. I was greeted with a Salaam, which was very nice! Silver Spring is such a diverse place and this small minority/immigrant-owned business is one of its many gems. There is a large cafe attached to a bakery. The bakery takes phone orders for larger events and orders. There are also breakfast items like bagels. There are about 7 options of cakes by the slice ranging from the namesake Tiramisu (which was delicious) to Black Forest to Italian Rum cake. What I found both impressive and inclusive is that almost (if not each) cake option has a vegan option! One slice of Tiramisu was $5.87. I ordered two slices of Tiramisu and one slice of Italian Rum cake and both were worth going back for. There is outdoor seating and a few tables inside so it's really a perfect little place for dessert after a dinner or movie date or just a quick pop-in on a weekend mid-morning or afternoon, or any day of the week really if you just want to grab a coffee. In a world where everything is becoming the same, it's nice to find small but quaint little coffee/cake shops around town. read more

If I had not been looking for Tiramisu Bakery, I would have probably passed by it without noticing. Correction. I have passed by it without noticing. The modest storefront, is located on a barren strip of Eastern Avenue just right off Georgia Avenue, with only a few other neighboring businesses. The bakery is small, the prices are stellar. I got a cup of delicious, Ethiopian coffee for just under $2 and three small, vanilla cookies dipped in chocolate for $1. The fresh cakes looked fresh and amazing and although temping, I behaved myself. I will not be so good next time however. Although seating is limited and not all that comfortable, they have free wifi. Overall, the experience was a solid three-star experience, however the bright and genuine smile of the young woman that took my order is deserving of an entire star in and of itself. She seemed sincerely happy to be there helping others. I'll definitely comeback, but more likely than not just to grab some coffee or sweets - the space is a bit too small to get too comfortable or to have any privacy. read more

Can I just say that my initial impression of this establishment was "random hole in the wall" but after tasting their delicious desserts it's my first choice for birthday cake? The rum cake. The strawberry cake. All the cakes.Are.Amazing. The prices are reasonable too, considering the quality of the cake itself ($20 for a small that looks more like a medium). The rum isn't overpowering (more like perfectly balanced with the creaminess of the frosting) and the strawberry cake is, in a word...perfection. Located at that sharp intersection of Eastern and Georgia, it's REALLY easy to miss. The storefront is also misleading, but once you step inside the aroma of delicious Ethiopian food and coffee will have you wishing that you found them sooner. At least, that's how I felt. I was very exciting to know that there was a place serving vegan dessert. I tried their vegan tiramisu. It was absolutely disgusting. The texture was dry and not spongy. There was no cream either. It tasted very stale. I know it's hard get vegan dessert right- but this was definitely not it. After having one or two spoon, I had to throw it away. This place has an employee that can't count. The lady gives me my change and I count it. As I was walking away, I said to the person I was with that she shorted me 6 cents. The lady heard me and she said oh let me give you a nickel. I never got my 6 cents or a nickle I figure if you're struggling/hesitate to hand out 6 cents it might be best if you keep it. Yet another Ethiopian Coffeehouse in Silver Spring! They must know something we Westerners don't. Like Mimi X., I had tea, not the Ethiopian coffee, but I would definitely come back. The cozy space is pleasant. The desserts are made in-house and look DELICIOUS, especially the tiramisu. I had a HUGE banana nut muffin which was fresh and full of large chunks of walnuts. This is a friendly, family run business. I never would have known it has been here for seven months now if it had not been for Yelp. Street parking is limited in this area; it's not close to Downtown Silver Spring either, so I hope it survives. read more

This past weekend I visited Tiramisu, not once but TWICE. It had been a while since I had been to this cafe, and I forgot how good it was. On Saturday, I went with some family members. We ordered tibs and vegetarian fir fir. It was fresh and delicious. Then I ordered a soy latte and tiramisu for dessert. I left full and happy. On Sunday, I was craving their dessert so I returned with a friend. We ordered lattes as well as the tiramisu and napoleon. The cozy atmosphere is also an added bonus. We sat in this cafe, sipping our coffee, and got lost in conversation and people watching. I'll be back again soon. Next time, I'll be trying the rum cake. read more

Pros: Cakes are amazing Cons: Unclean utensils, rocky furniture, poor lighting, customer service If there is ever that sudden urge for something sweet to satisfy your sweet tooth, you have to find this cake shop on the border of Silver Spring and DC. The wide section of cakes is amazing, I tried the "Italian Rum" and the "Fasting Tiramisu," both of which were fantastic and a perfect match to my cake preferences. The "Italian Rum" was very fluffy and mildly sweet. I am not a huge fan of overly sweet desserts, I prefer something lightly sweetened or coupled with something sour (berries, glaze, etc.). "Fasting Tiramisu", on the other hand, was sweet, but once again not overly sweet, also very soft and delicious. However, the last one did not look very fresh, luckily I did not have any digestive system complications and the taste was not any "funny." As far as the Cons go I did not like the atmosphere and the look of the place. I do not need a 3-4 "$" restaurant to feel comfortable and enjoy my food but when the place looks under-maintained and unclean I do not feel at ease. The first pointer goes to the spoons that accompanied cups of coffee. The spoons were clearly dirty and I had to get up and get coffee stirrers from the counter. The second pointer goes to the place itself, the floors, walls, lighting all looked old and ugly. Everything inside spoke to me as "old and ugly." The tables were not stable and you could barely sit at the high-top table without spilling your coffee all over the place. The lights were dark even during daytime, and no it was not the "dark/cool vibe" this place was giving. The last pointer goes to the customer service. When a person comes into a store that serves perfectly baked cakes you expect to get the same level of customer service. While it took me about 5-10 minutes to get any attention from the server at the register, she was not polite, friendly or welcoming in any way. The lady was very busy processing payment of the person before me and never acknowledged that I was standing right in front of her. The only thing I wish she said was: "Hello, glad to see you at our place, we are experiencing some difficulties and I will be with you shortly" (with a smile on her face). After she was done with the register she looked at me and said: "What do you want?" While I understood that she was a foreigner (so am I), after working for at least a short amount of time in customer service she must've seen other people serve and also must have experienced it herself in other places. One small thing to be aware of. To the left of the building is another business and everytime someone comes in the door slams and it resonates to this cafe. It may bother you and irritate you at first. I came to this realization pretty quickly and simply got used to the noise. It is in no way fault of the owner but it would be so much better without that noise. Overall, the place is worth a trip or two to eat their cakes. I just wish they changed the look of the place a little, added more light and were more welcoming to their customers. read more

Usually come here for desert and coffee, and will occasionally have to return or exchange something because it's dry or old. This time I decided to order a food item from the menu, and it came with bread rolls. The rolls were rock hard!!! I mean they could chip your teeth if consumed....lol. Explained to the person who served me and she went back to the kitchen. I'm thinking to get some fresh rolls, but no...instead she hands me some rolls wrapped in aluminum foil that just got nuked in the microwave. Not acceptable. You gotta do better than that. Had to get the rolls elsewhere. Not sure who you think you're fooling with that, but it isn't cool. read more

Been wanting to check this place out for a long time. It's a small little place, and is very busy on the weekends. It caters to the Ethiopian community who attend the churches across the street, and often is very busy. The cafe is more of a pastery shop than a bakery. It does have croissants, but they aren't made there, and they don't make any bread, so stick with the made items, particularly of course.. Tira Misu. They also have cakes as well, and you can even order large sheets of the baked items as well (including the Tira Misu, Napoleon, Mocha etc..) Also they have a lot of Ethiopian basic food items even for breakfast, such as chechebsa. Entrees are even available such as Doro Wat, Tibs, and even Kitfo. Very nice staff as well, and really nice people. And don't forget the coffee! As an espresso drinker, it pours darker with more of an acidic and fruitier taste here, but it's all good. Show up early in the mornings, before the church services end on weekends. read more

I am lucky enough to live right down the street from this amazing bakery. All desserts are made in-house. I have tried all of their cakes, and all are exceptional. I think my favorites are the white chocolate and the Italian Rum. The Napoleon, tiramisu and baklava are also incredible. They have good coffee, too, and their prices are definitely reasonable. I've only eaten their spaghetti with alfredo sauce, and it's a filling portion and tasty. The owners are great people. From what I understand, they have a famous establishment in the capital of Ethiopia. read more

You come here for the cakes because they are made with good ingredients by someone who knows how to make a flaky layer and put it next to a creamy one. The desserts are well above average and shine for the area (DC, let alone Silver Spring), where good bakeries are practically non-existent. The woman who served us didn't speak enough English to understand what we wanted without some work, and seemed to have a little trouble with the espresso machine (my cap was a weak latte, but Illy at least). Still, I'd certainly go back. To the woman who didn't like the tiramisu, I'd point out the tiramisu is as varied as the people who make it. Ok, we had my shower cake ordered here and of course we ordered the 10" tiramisu. The appearance of the cake is just lovely with it's lady fingers decorating the sides and a thick layer of cocoa power right on top. I was so ready to dig into it but was a bit disappointed. It was nothing like Dancing Goat now Crazy Mocha in Shadyside, Pittsburgh. I mean my friends tell me it's authentic but if that's authentic, then I want nothing of it. The cake was just too liquidy like it was soaked in rum for a long time and just mushy. I know tiramisu is supposed to be moist but not that moist. A friend and I decided to meet up here, and it was a good choice! It's a bit far from the hub of downtown Silver Spring (Fenton and Ellsworth), but I walked from the Wayne Avenue garage in about 10 minutes. It's a little off of Georgia Avenue and tucked away in a row of Ethiopian shops. It's pretty cramped inside (for good reason, as I found out), and voices ring out/overlap over the other. We decided to sit outside. I got a simple tea - which they gave to me in a glass/crystal goblet. Tea from a goblet made me feel like medieval royalty! My friend got a caramel-something that I would never drink. We also got a slice of cake to share - I have no idea what it was as the cakes are not labeled. It tasted like mocha, which was fine by me. Very fluffy, and not moist/heavy, which is exactly how I like my cakes. We sat outside, and if the weather had been less windy, it would've been perfect. I can imagine that it can get pretty crowded very quickly. The one drawback is the lack of labeling - I don't have any food allergies, but it may be a hassle for others to ask what exactly is in each item when they don't even have an idea of what the cake/pastry is. read more
