This was this past week, reference in sizing is clear

I've been to this bakery for 8 years. Unfortunately I understand the pandemic & inflation has affected a lot of local businesses but I don't appreciate the dishonesty or lack of acknowledgment that comes with tough business decisions. I recently went to this bakery after not having been in 10 months and I immediately noted to the host that the personal slices of tiramisu are now more than 50% smaller than what they used to be. She was taken aback and said "oh? They are?" I've seen her through out the years and was surprised she didn't even acknowledge my truth. I told her "yes, I've been coming here for many years" she didn't respond anymore. For context the prices have remained the same for the most part but the shrink-flation has really taken a toll on my wanting to come back again. For reference I have pictures of personal slice of tiramisu through out the years attached.

This place is easily one of my favorite finds of 2023. I was greeted with a Salaam, which was very nice! Silver Spring is such a diverse place and this small minority/immigrant-owned business is one of its many gems. There is a large cafe attached to a bakery. The bakery takes phone orders for larger events and orders. There are also breakfast items like bagels. There are about 7 options of cakes by the slice ranging from the namesake Tiramisu (which was delicious) to Black Forest to Italian Rum cake. What I found both impressive and inclusive is that almost (if not each) cake option has a vegan option! One slice of Tiramisu was $5.87. I ordered two slices of Tiramisu and one slice of Italian Rum cake and both were worth going back for. There is outdoor seating and a few tables inside so it's really a perfect little place for dessert after a dinner or movie date or just a quick pop-in on a weekend mid-morning or afternoon, or any day of the week really if you just want to grab a coffee. In a world where everything is becoming the same, it's nice to find small but quaint little coffee/cake shops around town.

If I had not been looking for Tiramisu Bakery, I would have probably passed by it without noticing. Correction. I have passed by it without noticing. The modest storefront, is located on a barren strip of Eastern Avenue just right off Georgia Avenue, with only a few other neighboring businesses. The bakery is small, the prices are stellar. I got a cup of delicious, Ethiopian coffee for just under $2 and three small, vanilla cookies dipped in chocolate for $1. The fresh cakes looked fresh and amazing and although temping, I behaved myself. I will not be so good next time however. Although seating is limited and not all that comfortable, they have free wifi. Overall, the experience was a solid three-star experience, however the bright and genuine smile of the young woman that took my order is deserving of an entire star in and of itself. She seemed sincerely happy to be there helping others. I'll definitely comeback, but more likely than not just to grab some coffee or sweets - the space is a bit too small to get too comfortable or to have any privacy.

    Rum Cake

Can I just say that my initial impression of this establishment was "random hole in the wall" but after tasting their delicious desserts it's my first choice for birthday cake? The rum cake. The strawberry cake. All the cakes.Are.Amazing. The prices are reasonable too, considering the quality of the cake itself ($20 for a small that looks more like a medium). The rum isn't overpowering (more like perfectly balanced with the creaminess of the frosting) and the strawberry cake is, in a word...perfection. Located at that sharp intersection of Eastern and Georgia, it's REALLY easy to miss. The storefront is also misleading, but once you step inside the aroma of delicious Ethiopian food and coffee will have you wishing that you found them sooner. At least, that's how I felt. See for yourself :)

Coffee was good, baked goods were dry and commercial, nothing to write about. Place is very small and was crowded with 3 parties.

It was awesome to see the diversity of the diaspora from the African continent (East and West Africa) the Caribbean/Latin America, and America all in one safe space enjoying themselves without the performative and obnoxiousness from others I would give them that. The Billy Holliday mural and the interior design has a nice sleek, New American vibe. My problem is the service, the cost, and the food although solid, I cooked a brunch the following day myself not to brag (scrambled eggs and cheese, friend potatoes with diced green peppers and onions) that was masterful in comparison to the gingerbread style big ole French toast and fancy "scrambled eggs and cheese" this spot has. The service charge was ridiculous as my mom's bill was 70 plus bucks for just the seafood shrimp and grits which was nice, a very sweet pre-diabetic lemonade, and bread pudding that was like bougie Georgetown prices with the dominant culture. I paid 40 dollars (Hairstylist from Baby Boy!) for French toast, scrambled eggs with cheese and lemonade. The food is nice and all but nothing to die for. We came for the vibe, culture, and atmosphere also, but we do prefer the chains of Dennys and I-hop if I am not doing the cooking which is most of the time. The server would dirty mack and take a while flirting with women at the bar and playing around with staff, and I had to give a clinical gaze with my glasses and hand signal for him to return. We did ask up front about service charge and gratuity included from the beginning but they have a very Southern slow pace here that I agree with others and I am a very patient man and notice that. It can take a while to get your checks, get change, just other tasks that you would think would be handled more efficiently. The place attracts the social media crowd, with professional pictures, the glitz, the glamor the Hollywood red carpet of the DMV, but the structural integrity of the pricing, service, and experience needs to step its game up in the worst way. We certainly see this place being a bit turned up and precarious in later hours. The closest parking that is reliable enough is the Safeway garage so it is not the most convenient, where as at least Matchbox has the Wayne and Colesville garages to park at and then enter. It was nice to support the Black owned establishment but it is a 1 and done spot. Majic 102.3 put in the hype a couple of years ago, but I found the truth, no thanks, it is a performative culture that still has that ole Georgia Ave. street culture.

Unfortunately, my very first interaction with the restaurant completely turned me off. I called on **02/12/2026** because I couldn't make a reservation online and wanted clarification. The man who answered said the Silver Spring location is "first come, first serve" and does not take reservations. When I tried to ask a follow-up question, I was told he was on another line -- and then he abruptly hung up. If reservations aren't accepted, I'm not sure why a potential guest would be rushed off the phone instead of being welcomed or given basic information. First impressions matter, and this experience felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude. Because of this interaction alone, I've decided not to visit this location. I hope management takes customer service more seriously, especially for people reaching out for the first time.
