the guy that told me the company doesn't have their stuff together to help with a simple key fob but then when I ASKED him to find out
    Ericka V.

terrible customer service they clearly aren't interested in doing anything they don't normally have to do every single day weather the company offers it or not. All of the customers they actually tried to help were old and white here I am the only black girl and they just couldn't have been less interested in helping

Today, I received exceptional customer service from Damion at the Rockridge Cole Hardware. He went out of his way to be helpful, kind, caring plus extremely informative about what I was looking for. It reminded me of how every employees has been towards me since Cole Hardware established itself in the neighborhood in 2016. Yes, you probably could get some of their items a few dollars cheaper on Amazon but great in person customer service is priceless. There's an energy to it that is really extremely special these days. Please support this local business and its fantastic hard working employees. Next time you need to get that random item, call or text Cole Hardware at 510.230.0145 to see if they have it. I prefer text and usually someone will get back to me fairly quickly, no matter what time of the day!

    Ryan fixing my mortise lock

Big shout out to Ryan at Cole Rockridge! The mortise lock on my master bedroom door stopped working. My Craftsman house is over 100 years old so it's hard to replace these sorts of bits and pieces. Ryan intercepted me as I was about to purchase a new mortise lock that was not a perfect fit and would have required chiseling new holes in the door jamb. : ( He offered to fix the old one, which had a broken spring. After quite a bit of effort, he succeeded and I am a very happy camper! What a fantastic thing to have someone actually willing to fix these good quality original fixtures in our wonderful old houses. And incredible value as he only charged me for the tiny spring! Thank you Cole and double thank you Ryan! You're a gem!

It's a great spot if you're looking to grow your own food or just enjoy a calm walk through nature. There's a section for indoor houseplants, but it's a bit limited. Most of the options are Succulent plants and hardier varieties, so if you're looking for a large variety of tropicals or more delicate indoor plants, you might not find much--though there is a separate indoor plant area that was closed off during our visit. You'll definitely notice the fertilizer smell when you walk in--not overwhelming, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive. Still, the overall atmosphere is relaxing and grounding. It's a really lovely spot to explore, especially if you enjoy gardening or just want a nature-filled reset. Heads-up for allergy sufferers: with all the plants, pollen, and earthy air, you may want to plan accordingly. We didn't directly interact with the staff, but they seemed friendly and helpful, assisting other guests as I walked by. Parking: There's plenty of side street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood, and a few spots right in front of the entrance. Their inventory is dominated by your typical cultivars of philodendrons, anthuriums, pothos, etc. Most of these plants are widely available at garden centers and other plant stores. Even the carnivorous plants and staghorn fern they had are varieties I've commonly seen elsewhere. They also carry spray painted tillandsias, a practice I dislike because it obscures the plant's natural appearance and is something I generally associate with novelty retail rather than horticulture. I visited hoping to find some unique specimens, such as uncommon orchids, metallic leaved begonias, rocklike pseudolithos, or other harder to find collector plants. Casual indoor plant owners would probably find this store adequate, but I'd recommend those looking specifically for rare or unusual plants to skip this place. Update: Soon after writing this review I got a very emotionally charged message from the owner who mentioned that my review is a "public dig" and asked "Is it your goal to damage a women owned and run small business?". It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I leave an honest respectful review (all I did was highlight who this store would be good for!) and I get a response like that. Especially ending in her saying "I hope you have a better day than I now will have". It's all very unprofessional.

First visit to Crimson Horticultural Rarities on Piedmont Ave but a frequent visitor to their former location in the Temescal Neighborhood and bought my first air plant about 10 years ago. Floor staff friendly, provides assistance and advice. Ended up with a Swiss Cheese plant (monstera adansonii) kokedama which is the Japanese art of growing plants in a moss-covered ball which is definitely a conversation piece. Pricing on the higher side so I visit for the unique arrangement or rare plant I haven't found. Crimson Horticultural Rarities also provides full service event arrangements and indoor plant design for your place.

My bf gently touched one of the plants he wanted to purchase to fully inspect it before purchasing, but then the owner started berating us profusely. He went 0-100 & it was scary how deranged/out of control his anger quickly rose to. We genuinely apologized to him for touching the plant and for not having seen the very much faded and small sign that was hidden behind all the other plants. But alas, the owner kept going, escalating his anger, and began hurling insults at us calling us stupid even as we were on our way out. Seems like he's capable of being a decent human being to the others who have left good reviews. Based on this selective decency/kindness, I wouldn't recommend anyone to even take that gamble.
