I like neighborhood and community stores like this. Pagano's has a decent selection of home repair and supply items at reasonable prices. Go here if you want to get a replacement nut, bolt, screw to purchase a la carte. They have light supplies of garden needs and other pantry/household items. Key cutting services are available at a counter in the back of the store with prices ranging from $3 to $5 per key. $1 special on Tuesdays for 1 key. Located in the South Shore Shopping Plaza with plenty of parking. Apparently this store has been an Alameda business for generations. They used to be located on Lincoln Ave and have another store at Webster and Central. read more

Thank you so much Lacy! Highly recommend Paganos for your painting needs and anything else. I went to Sherman Williams in Oakland earlier and their smallest custom paint sample is $35. I remembered Pagano's and called them to ask if they mix paint and what their prices were. So glad I came here instead! It was worth the drive from Oakland to Alameda! Way back in the day I had an Orchard Supply Hardware close by and a Home Depot and a Kelly Moore paint store all with corporate accounts since I owned 5 rentals and was running a farming corporation. Fast forward many years and I have Paganos close by. So not the same but for what I need it is totally adequate. The selection is hit and miss depending on restocking. I can always find a drill I need or some other tool. Also, the selection of screws, nuts and bolts in metric and what ever we use here in 'Murica is second to none. I needed to get a spare key made for my front door. A co worker mentioned that the first key is .50 on Tuesday, and it happened to be a Tuesday when I went. Upon entry, there was a worker at the register to the left and a few steps up, there was another worker on the right side counter (I believe it was by the paint section), neither one greeted me so I subtracted a star. I'm big on being greeted and thanked. There were only a few people in the store at the time I went. I went to the back and no one was there, but as soon as I was going to ring the buzzer, and very nice and friendly lady came to assist. She cut the keys quickly and I went to the front to pay. I didn't browse around because I was on my lunch break, but it seems to be a nice place. I plan on going back on a weekend. read more

Recently came by for a paint order! A friend placed an order online and I came by to pick up. Pagano's located at Southshore Center, which means easy parking (yay!) I was in a bit of a rush and had to pick up some other items, but the pickup order was ready to go and getting everything was super fast. They had the order on a cart, which helped in terms of loading everything into the car. +1 for their service, but would've ranked this place with fewer stars since you can get better prices elsewhere. read more

It's Oct 2021, and I had a nice experience at the Southshore store on a Saturday. I had just bought a lockset at the Central Ave store, and discovered I needed some sort of cover plate to make the DIY job look nicer. So I ran down to Southshore just before closing to find something. My idea was to find something and use it for "it's unintended" use. And the the crazy thing was, Andy knew what I was talking about and helped me look for gaskets and covers. He ended up ordering me a metal cover. I used to shop at the original store on Lincoln. Same setup.....big store, seems unorganized, and you need to ask people for help. read more

Yah, this is a "don't go there" review. The current owners & staff at this store are not good at all. The last 3 or 4 times I've gone in, the on-floor staff seemingly didn't know what I was asking for and/or had no idea what they carry in the store and NO clue concerning customer service. This is not the Pagano's of old, far, far from it. Some of the aisles were blocked with unopened boxes that needed to be unpacked & products put on shelves - an obvious tripping hazard that should not have been there. It also takes a long time to get anyone to come to the registers up front. Sadly, the Pagano's on Central has closed so from now on, I will be going to the True Value on Encinal. When I called that store, the clerk immediately understood what I needed, confirmed what was in stock, even gave me prices. Now, THAT is service! Well worth driving a bit, and not far from a local bus line. read more

What's happened to Paganos? lately the store has many missing products. Last couple of times I've been in the store many shelves are empty, drawers empty and when I asked staff when will they restock, there' s no answer. We intended to go to the minutekey kiosk in Safeway but found that it was no longer there. So, I did a quick yelp search and saw that Paganos also cut keys. Why not support a local mom & pop shop? The key cutting service is located at the customer service desk in the back of the store. Pretty easy to locate. $1.99 to cut a standard house key. Got 4 keys and they all worked well. What's happened to Pagano's? 1) They have the sander I want but they don't carry the sander discs for that brand of sander (why carry one brand and not stock pieces for it)? 2) I need a specific type of wall anchor, which they have a displace piece that shows they have it. But the helper said they don't carry that brand. Why show that you have it and then you don't carry it? 3) Went in to get spray paint and they are out of stock of two of the three paints I needed. 4) Went back to get 5" disc sander pieces for another job and they were out of 4 different types and had only 1 of two other types. Makes going to Home Depot a reality when they are out of stock of so many things. read more

I went in to get a heater because I've been really cold lately. So I bought one and tried it but it was not good at all I was just as cold without it. So I took it back. I tried to ask the gentleman what would be the best one for the Suze room I have. I forgot to say I was the only person in the store. The gentleman was in the back and when I asked the question as to what one would work he was like read the box or something the young lady looked so embarrassed she walked over to where there were with me and wasn't sure the gentleman was walking down an aile and said something I'm not sure, but I was so frustrated I just walked out. I'm so sorry he was having a bad day but if that's the case stay home , I won't be going back there any time soon. This is to review Pagano's Hardware at the South Shore Center on Alameda Island. Pagano's was established in 1950 and, for about five decades, the store was located on Lincoln Avenue. Eventually, the store at this location was closed and, at the same time, two new locations opened up. These were at South Shore Center and at the end of Webster Street, not far from Crab Cove. Nearby parking is always available because Pagano's is in a huge shopping mall and not located on busy street. I often combine my shopping at Pagano's, with an errand at the nearby post-office. The checkers are attentive and spontaneously ask if I need help finding something. In the past 15 years, my purchases from Pagano's Hardware have included: (1) Fiberglass lawn statues of a raccoon, a rabbit, and elves. (2) Epoxy glue for repairing a book binding, for repairing the plastic shell of my Honda car key, for plugging up holes in the upper fabric of my running shoes, and for coating the stems of leaves. (3) Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic spray paint (I bought four cans of 12 ounce spray paint). I used three coats of this spray paint for coating both sides of ten leaves. The leaves were on the ground in Redwood Regional Park, and I decided that they'd make a nice art project. See, attached photographs of the completed leaf art project. (4) A green-colored clay cup that I used as a vase. After using the clear spray paint to make the leaves sturdy, and after coating each stem with epoxy, I stuffed the stems of the leaves into the clay cup. And that was that. This art project took several days to complete. (5) A drill bit for inserting into my electric drill. The drill bit was used for another art project. I took two black stones from Muir Beach. Each stone had naturally occurring swirls of white mineral. The white swirls made nice designs on the black surface. Then, I drilled a hole in each of two stones, inserted a short metal rod into the two holes (together with epoxy) and, in this way, connected the two stones. Each of the two stones had a weird design of white mineral swirls, where each swirl looks like an eye. (6) Plastic bins for storing collections of journal articles on esoteric subjects, for example, Early Evolution of Whales, Ginseng Farming in Wisconsin, and about how the Chicxulub meteorite caused the K-P boundary. read more

It's so nice to have a local hardware store close by if I ever need any odd screws and bolts for my tinker projects. Cashier's are always nice and I have to give a big shoutout to Dave who has helped us multiple times, everything from helping us find the perfect shade of paint for all the interior doors in our house down to finding an odd little screw for my dremel tool. They even had a Delta tub shower valve that I needed to fix a leak, which saved me a trip to Hizzy Depot or waiting for an order from Amz. I highly recommend this place! read more

Yesterday, I went to Pagano's at Southshore to purchase an Xmas tree. The white man that unlocked the gate wasn't helpful. I picked out a tree and he didn't give me the tag and he did not offer to trim the trunk. I went back in the store to get a tree stand. Another man, an Aisian man was very helpful. He helped me pick out the correct tree stand, gave me the tag for the tree, trimmed the trunk and tied the tree down to the roof of my car. So look for the Aisian man if you need help. I shook his hand and said Happy Holidays. I usually put up an artificial tree but this year I decided to do both. read more

After the PETCO stop, husband and I came here to look at the different garden hose nozzles. We just bought a pocket hose from BB&B, not knowing Pagano's also carries the same product. The nozzle included with the pocket hose isn't all that great. I saw what I was looking for as far as garden hose nozzles are concerned and it was the most expensive...$34.99. (Dang!!) Husband found one for $19.99. We will return next week to purchase the one that costs $19.99. Since it's a hardware store, I believe we're gonna end up purchasing a few more items than that garden hose nozzle...LOL. We do like their store on Lincoln Avenue (closer to our home), but the parking here is easier and this is yet another place to add to my shopping at Southshore Shopping Center. read more

Bad experience! Bought nearly a thousand dollar worth of carnival village set but one has a very noisy irritating mechanical issue and one has broken figurine upon opening but the lady said NO RETURN NO EXCHANGED! Which i asked where does it say? on the receipt and store policy??? I dont see any sign either im so disappointed and i dont think ill be buying more of the village stuff to complete my set! Pagano's is a great store. The people who work there are both friendly and knowledgeable. For example, I was there recently looking for a certain type of lightbulb, and they were able to tell me that that particular one is no longer made, and point me to the next closest type that would work for me. They have a ton of stuff, so this is my go-to hardware store. They have almost everything Home Depot has, plus way better customer service, so I recommend going here. During the virus, I felt pretty safe here; there is sanitizer available to use, and at least when I went, it was not hard to keep socially distanced. read more

Just had a rather bizarre interaction with a female cashier at a local hardware shop I frequent. I went in for some nails, grabbed them and went to check out. Saw a Tootsie Pop, decided to go for the impulse buy. The following is my conversation with the cashier: Her "Find everything alright?" Me "Sure did, thanks." Her "Do you happen to see a price on those Tootsie pops?" Me "Nope, I don't." Her "Hmmmm, well the Dum Dums are 85c, how about a dollar?" Me *Looks closely* "The Dum Dums are actually 15c, how about a quarter?" Her "How about 50c." Me "Are we really haggling over the price of a Tootsie pop right now?" Her "Well there's no price sooooo..." At this point I took the Tootsie pop, left a dollar for it, and told her to keep the change from my nail purchase to which she replied "Ok, whatever" and pointedly turned to the next customer. What Does Great Customer Service Taste Like? Random Acts of Kindness, Great Customer Service, Today I had my 2nd Customer Experience with Pagano's Hardware in South Shore Center, Alameda. My first was a couple of years ago when in the middle of barbequing my dinner, I of course ran out of propane. With no other options at the hotel I was staying in, I found the local hardware store a few miles away, it was 10 mins to 8pm and they said they closed at 8. I said I'd hurry, they said they'd wait. Then, when I got to what I thought was the store, it was all closed. I called them back and said, "Hey, you said you'd wait. And they said "where are you? Turns out, I was at their other location, a couple of miles away. No matter, the manager took pity on me and waited past closing time to fill my tank and make my dream of ribs come true yet another night. Do you know what great customer service feels like? This was definitely the feeling. . But I finished the day and was reminded why in Sonoma County and all across small towns in America, we should be buying local, supporting the engine for a huge number of jobs in this country when I made my 2nd trip to Pagano's hardware for some much needed electrical tape I needed to fix something. But because of the local unrest across the freeway, they were not open but would be tomorrow, the manager, Sue told me. I said, "I just needed a roll of electrical tape". And she said, "wait a minute, ran back into the store and brought me one. She said, come back and pay me tomorrow..." You won't get that kind of service at the BIG BOX stores for sure. My local hardware store--Pagano's generally has all the basic home type stuff I could want. Compared to Home Despot or Target, it's an easy quick experience. Great for needing small things, doing handiwork projects or household gadgetry. They've always been helpful when I've needed it. I prefer this location primarily because of the later hours and you don't have to go through a whole ordeal to pick up paint stuff. read more

I understand if they dont know the trade, but at least walk around and get to know where the inventory is located. if your not a handyman , the only advice you will get is NONE !!! went to Southshore first, they know there products and inventory, but out of stock on the items I needed. I tried to love this place, I did, but after a summer of trying I am done. I have had constant problems and delays with orders I have placed there. Delays in deliveries and now they refused to refund me for the purchase of two bolts because they made an error on checkout at the time of the original purchase. I could go on and on about the problems I have had, order mistakes, delivery delays, delivery mistakes...it's constant and it is infuriating, frustrating and has driven me to Home Depot. read more

The bathroom vanity hot water stem started to make loud noises whenever it was turned on. Removed the stem, but was not sure what the problem was with it. I had assumed that the entire stem had to be replaced. I decided to go to Pagano's, because I expected to get better assistance there than at Home Depot. I talked to Christoper and showed him the stem. He said I didn't need a new stem and that it just needed to be rebuilt. He disassemble the stem and put in a new O ring and a new washer and reassembled it. He said that this should solve the problem. Went home and put in the stem and the faucet was good as new. No more loud noises when turning on the faucet. Amazing personal service by Christopher in helping me with my problem.
