I'm a frequent customer and I've had plenty of pleasant experiences. The service is great but I do have a concern about an employee I've had not such good experiences with. Every time my husband or I come in he's always asking for tips and I've witnessed him ask other customers as well. It's a very uncomfortable situation and I find it to be very inappropriate. Once again, I got an oil change for my Toyota Corolla at Coleman Lube Express. Yes, the traffic on the way there is horrible, but it's worth it. They're even faster and friendlier these days--I got in and out in about 20 minutes. PROS: Location! Pretty quick. They had a few other clients there, but weren't too busy to change my oil, which they did in about 20-25mins. Not too pushy with upselling. They were upfront about what they'd do, and their pricing (or justification for pricing), and seemed fine if I decided to drive away without using their service. CONS: The pricing seemed higher than other places I've been to. I don't mind paying a little more for the convenient location. But they said there would be an extra fee to cover the cost of a specialized tool that they have that they'd need to use on my car. Hmmm. This simple hole-in-the-wall place is in a great location for a fast and friendly oil change. But be prepared to pay extra. read more

I've driven by this place on 290 in Oak Hill for years. Decided to try it last week when Jiffy Lube was out of oil filters. It is an old-style oil change joint where the customer drives the car into and out of the bay. (Most auto shops these days do not allow customers in the service area.) There is a very small waiting room, but I recommend waiting out back under what may be the largest live oak tree in South Austin (weather permitting, of course). They were finished with the oil change in 15 minutes. But the best part was the price, a little over $60. Overall: efficient and inexpensive. read more

Brought my truck for an oil change and inspection. They are priced significantly higher than other places for the oil change, but I was in a rush and they are at a convenient location. Immediately upon having my truck in the bay, they tried to upsell me to repair 2 completely invisible "dings" in the windshield. Said my insurance would cover it but I'm not inclined to make an insurance claim for nothing. Cash price to repair said nonexistent hits was $40. I declined. Then while I was waiting for it to be completed, I was told my windshield wipers were "shredded" and my truck would not pass inspection unless I replaced wipers. $20. I was on an necessary phone call while this happened and I absentmindedly agreed. I should have asked to be shown the wipers as I'm pretty sure they were fine. All in, I paid about $40 more than I should have for an oil change and an inspection. Buyer beware. I now know what the word "lube" in their name is for. read more

I just had my oil "changed ". When I got home(5 minutes away) I pulled the dipstick and checked the "new" oil filter. The oil on the dipstick was dirty and black, not amber colored fresh motor oil. This means they DIDN't change the oil or they DIDN't change the filter. Or both. My advice is STAY AWAY.... read more

Everything about the place is just a little questionable. First time they were going to put different oil than my WV said in the manual and when I checked they finally said they didn't have "that one." Then my other car, they are about $30 more expensive on my 4Runner for mobile 1. And the guy changing the oil kept cussing and couldn't find the right wrenches the whole time. Be very careful with these thieves. I had literally just cleaned my windshield to drive it up there for an inspection like 20 minutes before i showed up. The manager walks to the frt of the car then shows me the window has a chip. He carries around porcelain and then fucks up your window to up sell repairs. This place is the worst I have ever experienced all my over 50 years of driving. If there was a minus star ranking available they would get a -10. My wife and I were in West Austin visiting and our Toyota Sequoia needed an oil change. This place was across the street from where we were staying, and I found it easy to go there. Before I knew it, they had opened the differential plug and drained the oil, plus they were to replace the engine air and air condition filters- they said that at 46k miles that it " was recommended ". I can only assume that they changed the engine oil and filter. They charged me over $200!! On our way home the next day, the vehicle made a "howling" sound- we live in South Texas. My wife drove it for a week, and complained of the noise. Finally, I checked under the hood and discovered that they removed and had not replaced the engine air filter, and had left the compartment unlatched. I had to buy one from Auto Zone- $10 cheaper than what they charge me- and thought the noise problem had been solved. To our dismay it continued. Finally, I took it to a trusted auto repair shop, who immediately upon hearing the "howling " sound, especially when decelerating, gave me the bad news that it had to be the differential. They opened it up and discovered that the differential oil had not been replaced, and the plug showed gummy oil residue with METAL BITS! Obviously from the gears. We have detailed pics. I have called Coleman's shop several times, spoken with a worker on the first call who said he'd have the manager call me back, but have not been contacted even after repeated calls and leaving voice messages. We are so glad nothing major occur on the road, but the "howling" sound still exists, albeit a bit diminished. We worry about what could happen down the road! If you treasure your life and that if your family, don't take your car there!! read more
